    INTRODUCTION*The adulteration of the copper-coin,

    as it is highly pernicious to trade in ge-neral, so it more immediately affects theitinerate brandies of it. Among these}at present, arc to be found the only cir.f ulators of base metal ; and, perhaps,the only dealers who are obliged to takesuch counterfeits, as will find a currencyno where else: yft are not allowed toraise the price of iheir commodities.A Tyburn execution, a duel, a mostterrible fire, or a horrid, barbarous,bloody, erm 1, and inhuman murder, was\vont to bring in vast revenues to thelower tlass of pamphleteers, who getth< ir livelihood by vending these diurnalrecords publicly in the streets: butsince half. pence have been valued at nomore than nine- pence the pound weight,these occasional pieces hardly answer theexpences of printing and paper ; and theservant maid, who used to indulge hertaste for pwiite literature,
