Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Thank you, Michael A year ago, in May, we received a tremendous gift from Bishop Quinn – the opportunity to have a Seminarian of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester come to our parishes and minister in the community. What a blessing Michael has been to our entire community! When he first arrived, he had a list of duties to accomplish. I found it enjoyable to see him cross items off his list (knowing that ministry was more than lists) and looked forward with anticipation to him realizing ministry would pick-up after the summer. And pick up it did. Michael has been a tremendous influence on our youth and young adults, mentoring young people and encouraging them in their prayer life. Michael has been a hit with our children in Faith Formation – a great gift to have someone in formation who is still incredibly young and approachable. Michael has been a huge blessing in helping prepare couples for Marriage, meeting with families for funeral preparation and visiting the homebound while providing the Blessed Sacrament. Michael has adopted several people during his time here, many who have entered Eternal Life, and his realness of grieving with the families has been a source of inspiration and hope for all who have witnessed this gift he possesses. I could not imagine being alone during the time that Covid-19 initially hit, so he has been a tremendous influence on me with daily Holy Hours, prayer and fraternity. When we were blessed for several weeks to have Matthew Koestler join us, it was certainly a treat! There is so much I would like to say, but certainly cannot adequately express my profound gratitude in words. Michael has left a deep impression on our Faith Community and within our hearts. As we send him back to Sacred Heart in Detroit, there is no doubt he takes all of us with him. God’s abundant blessings, Michael! Thank you for making a difference in our lives! God loves you … and so do we all!

First Communion Update We are staying the course with First Holy Communion taking place during September. All First Communion parents were given at the end of the school year to respond to our current situation. To allow social distancing responsibilities, we will probably ad a few more masses the weekend of First Communion (September 19th and 20th) – more on that in the near future. Thank you for your patience with this process. Thank you, also, for bringing your child to Mass. They get excited to receive the Lord when they are missing the Lord – this is important to the journey. Not able to go to Mass because of health concerns? Set aside the one hour on Saturday or Sunday. Dress and prepare like you are going to Mass and watch and pray the Mass online (we LIVE Stream). Help them prepare for this beautiful Sacrament by realizing how important it is. Thank you!

Confirmation Update Bishop John M. Quinn has scheduled Confirmation for Wednesday, October 21st at 7pm at St. Charles Borromeo. There will be at least 3 sessions to prepare for this day. Confirmation Students (sponsors and parents … stay tuned).

17th Sunday of Ordinary TimeGloria Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Reading 1, 1 Kgs 3:5, 7-12 The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” Solomon answered: “O LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed my father David; but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act. I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted.Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?”The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request. So God said to him: “Because you have asked for this— not for a long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor for the life of your enemies, but for understanding so that you may know what is right- I do as you requested. I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up to now, and after you there will come no one to equal you.”

Reading 2, Rom 8:28-30 Brothers and sisters: We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.

Psalm, PS 119:57,72,76-77,127-128,129-130 R. Lord, I love your commands.

Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen

Prayer of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to possess You within my soul. Since I am unable at this moment to receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as being already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Gospel, MT 13:44-46 Jesus said to his disciples:“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchantsearching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price,he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”

Let your kindness comfort meaccording to your promise to

your servants.

“Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thes. 16-18When I first entered Seminary 5 years ago, I was a little nervous, but I was mostly filled with great excitement and eager desire to share with everyone the love, and mercy, and goodness of our God. My heart was on fire and I felt ready to take on the world. That initial spark and burning desire slowly waned through four more years of college education, after I had already done four years of Nursing school! Most of my time over the last few years have been spent with brother seminarians and in college and formation classes at the seminary. A Priest used to joke that seminarians are like gophers, we tunnel underground for most of the time, and only occasionally poke our heads out to see what is going on. There is a lot of truth to that joke! I want you to know just how much this year has done for me. This year has gotten me out of the ‘gopher hole’ and onto the frontlines for a full year. I have experienced with you the highs and lows, the sufferings and challenges and joys of daily life. You have re-inflamed my heart with a burning love for God, as I have seen your love and faith in action. You have deepened my desire for the Priesthood as I desire to serve you, the people of God. I cherish every one of you. I cherish every visit, every encounter, every smile and kind word. As I return to Seminary, I feel rejuvenated and refueled, ready to devote myself more fully to two more years of education, with all of you in my heart. You remain in my prayers, please keep me in yours. Thank you for everything! I love you! With unceasing prayers and rejoicing,Michael

And With Your Spirit Anima Christi Soul of Christ, sanctify meBody of Christ, save meBlood of Christ, inebriate meWater from the side of Christ, wash mePassion of Christ, strengthen meO good Jesus, hear meWithin Thy wounds hide meSuffer me not to be separated from TheeFrom the malignant enemy defend meIn the hour of my death call meAnd bid me come unto TheeThat with Thy Saints I may praise TheeForever and ever. -Amen.
