Chairman’s MessageJEFF MASLIN
Welcome one and all to what is our final
game of the season at Worksop and sadly
probably our last here. Unfortunately due
to a change of ownership we will not be
able to continue our relationship with
Sandy Lane but I would like to thank them
for the last 2 years. I still believe this is one
of the best facilities throughout all leagues
and it will be a shame not to continue our
relationship.
Next year sees lots of changes, all to the
benefit of the club. The biggest benefit is
we are running a reserve side.
Arrangements are being put in place as we
speak to reintroduce the Junior section to
our happy family. This might surprise some
people but believe me it is a great moment
for our club. Sheffield Wednesday have
always had a great tradition of bringing
youngsters through the ranks, Hollie Barker
is a great advert for this, and not to have
had this progression over the last few years
has been to the detriment of both clubs.
The amalgamation works in so many ways
and I am sure everyone will see a huge
difference.
On the footballing front well done to the
girls last week. With the way the league
positions were before the game our destiny
was in our own hands. By the time you
read this we will know what if anything we
have to do to secure our play off place as
Boro were playing South Durham on
Thursday and the outcome of that match
decides how many points we need. But
what a great season we have had, with the
FA cup, the probable play off position and
the absolute great fun we have had. I
would like to thank everyone involved with
the club this season, too many to mention
but you know who you are, from the
bottom of my heart ....THANK YOU. See
you all next season at our new home,
wherever that may be (keep checking our
website www.swwfc.net).
Onwards and upwards !!!!!!
Jeff Maslin

SWWFC were formed at the Star Inn pub in 1971following a charity match between men andwomen at the pub. The team was originally calledStar Ladies. Shortly afterwards the side joined theSheffield Ladies League. When this league wasdisbanded they joined the Nottinghamshire LadiesLeague which was later renamed the East MidlandsLadies League. In 1983 they became members of the Women'sPremier League. They took the name SheffieldWednesday in 1985 and then subsequently whenthe FA created the AXA FA Women's LeagueSheffield Wednesday Ladies became foundermembers and have continued in this league until2005 when they were relegated to the Women’sNorthern Combination League where they spent 2 seasons.Christine McCann guided the Owls back to the topflight as champions of the Northern Combinationin 2007 as they returned to Premier League footballfor the 2007/2008 season. McCann handed the
reigns to senior coach Daniel Duke for their PremierLeague return and he and his staff successfullyguided them to a respectable 6th place finish intheir 1st year back in the top flight. The Owls havejust completed their 2nd season back competingagainst the countries cream of women’s footballand after a tough season they retained the status asone of the best teams in the county. In 2009 Duke was promoted to Director of Footballat the club and Andy Burgess was brought in as 1st team manager but due to other commitmentshe left the club 3 months later and was replaced byLiam Kelly to the end of the season but couldn’thelp save the club from relegation from theNorthern Premier League.June 2010 saw the appointment of AdamSmallman as the clubs new manager and thebranding of “new wednesday” begins as theystrived to return to the FA Northern Premier Leagueat the first opportunity.Watch this space!
