Mad Science is proud to introduce children to a world of discoverywhile sparking imaginative learning. It is our vision to encourage scientific

literacy in an age when science is as vital as reading, writing and arithmetic.

Our mission is to deliver unique, educational, hands-on science experimentsfor students and their teachers. During our interactive, half-day workshops

highly trained instructors will present quality workshops that meet the expectations of the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum.

Over the past 18 years Mad Science of Toronto has presentedworkshops to hundreds of thousands of children across

10 School Boards and Private Schools throughout the GTA.

Scented canisters will tickle noses and dancing cereal will tap toes. Using amagnifying glass, students will check up on what’s what with everyday items.Our Wacky Wave Motion Model will move sound and students will feel themusic in them as they groove to our Guitar Boxes. While examining a MysteryIn A Sock, children will identify objects using only their sense of touch. We willthen keep little hands busy as children model their very own special creation.

Everyone will shake,rattle and roll with theTambourine Shakerthey will make to bringhome as well as theirModel Magic Creation.

Children will investigate the five senses and discoverhow each sense can teach them about their world.

Everyone loves an old-fashion volcanic explosion and we promise not todisappoint! As well, working as paleontologists, children will participate ina dinosaur dig and will discover the differences between meat eating andplant eating dinosaurs. We will investigate rainbows and reveal the wondersof colour. Students will take a class trip through the solar system and willparticipate in a moon rock relay race.

Everyone will make aDinosaur Tooth, someRainbow Slush, anAir Rocket and CrazyDough to bring home.

Children will see the world through a bug’s eye and will answer thegreat question, “How do teeny, tiny bugs survive in such a big world?”when they check out a bug’s defensive moves. Children will foreverhigh five bugs once we identify the paramount role insects play in ourenvironment. Students will play a cool game of Bug Bingo and willsing the praises of their new bug friends.

Everyone will createa Plasticine Bug anda Noodle Bug’s LifeChart to bring home.

Everyone will want to be an Entomologist after half a day of bugexploration. The fabulous world of bugs will be revealed withamazing, hands-on experiments.

During this stimulating workshop, students willvisit the north and south poles.

We guarantee that you will not hear any static as children investigatethe properties of magnetized materials. Everyone will get a charge outof passing common household items through our Mad Science MagneticTest. During a series of stick-to tests, the sticky power of magnets andVelcro will be explored. Cheers will erupt when we investigate magneticfields.

Through a series of hands-on experiments, students will discoverthe ooey gooey truth about their digestive, muscular and respiratorysystems. Following discussions about the five senses, students willexperience what life would be like without their sense of sight. Childrenwill identify what is different and the same between humans, othermammals and plants.

To demonstrate howeasily eyes can befooled, students willmake a Thaumatrope and a Model Brain.

Blood, guts and more will be explored in thisthrilling workshop about the human body.

Students will be energized as they investigate various forms of energyand the paramount importance each plays in the survival of all forms.

In this stimulating, hands-on workshop students will learn that solar energyis the principal source of energy and will be introduced to the wacky worldof potential and kinetic energy. Using ultraviolet beads, children will makea UV Keychain to alert them when they should be wearing sun protection.Everyone will be blown away when we reveal the wonders of wind energy.

Students will makea Pinwheel and aUV Keychain to bringhome with them.

Using their five senses, students will gather information about secret mixtures and guess what materials were used in creatingthem. In the second half of this fun, hands-on workshop, JuniorEngineers will identify the cool shapes used to provide strengthand stability to the structures around them. Children will identifythree common building materials and will put a favourite structurethrough the ultimate stress test.

Everyone will make a containerof ooey gooey Slime to bringhome with them. Students willstand straight and tall whenthey show off the Sail Boat theyhave constructed.

As Junior Engineers, students will build structures andidentify the cool shapes used to provide strength and stability.

During this fun workshop, students will discover the importantrole weather plays in everyday life. They will discover how theycan prepare for seasonal changes and will never again questionwhy they have to wear this and can’t wear that. Children willidentify days, months, years and will understand why eachcycle occurs.

Your students will be awestruckas they create fake Snow-In-A-Cup,a Season Wheel to remindthem of each season and theirvery own Pet Tornado to bringhome with them.

Students will discover how their favourite creatures grow and changethroughout the animal’s life. A series of awesome experiments willenable children to identify the various ways animals adapt and survive in their environments. We will take a bite out of the mysteryof teeth and beaks. Students will make comparisons between theirown life cycle and the life cycles of plants and animals.

Students will make and takehome a 3-D Model of a Turtle.They will also construct aLife Cycle Yahtzee Gameto entertain their friendsand family.

Throughout this interactive workshop, the wild andwonderful world of the Animal Kingdom will be explored.

Your students will be amazed to discover water can exist aseach state of matter. As the children pour and mix liquids theywill gain a greater understanding of the concepts of buoyancyand density. Reinforcing the importance of safety in the homeand school, we will identify product warning symbols.

Suspending beads, sequins andglitter, students will be dazzledwhen they make a Sparkle Tubeto bring home. Everyone will alsomake a container of our infamousMad Science Slime!

As Junior Scientists, students will explore thethree states of matter - solid, liquid and gas.

Through a series of hands-on experiments, students will gain an understanding of the nuts and bolts for each simple machine and will be able to identify examples around them. Gravity andfriction will all be put through a Mad Science test as childrenwork together using inclined planes.

Students will construct aSpinning Top to bring home withthem. Combining four simplelevers, children will build theirvery own Micro-Pincher.

Levers, inclined planes, pulleys, screws, wedges, wheel & axles-simple machines every Junior Engineer will need to know.

Balloons, ping pong balls and an Air Zooka will demonstratethe mighty power of the wind.

The mysteries of crazy weather will be revealed as childrenexplore the properties of air and water. During this interactiveworkshop, students will identify the paramount significance waterplays in their everyday lives. As they examine the water cycle,students will be thrilled to see it rain in their classroom. The greatforces of water and air will be captured and trapped as studentsconstruct their own Pet Tornado.

Children will be creating their own Pet Tornado andthirsty household plants across the GTA will thankyour students after theyassemble a Plant WaterMister to bring home.

Move it, move it, move it! The mighty forces of gravity, inertiaand friction will be tested in this motivating workshop.

Students will investigate which forces come into play as they start,stop, attract, repel and change direction of an object. They will beamazed to discover the ways in which forces affects the operationof everyday devices. Through a series of hands-on experiments, thewonders of potential and kinetic energy will be revealed. Students willunderstand how energy can be stored and released to create movement.Everyone will construct a cool device that moves using static electricity.

Harnessing stored andmoving energy, studentswill be constructing aStatic Vane and will alsomake a RattlesnakeScare to bring homewith them.

In this fun and hands-on workshop, students will investigate therelationship between plants, the Earth and human life. While examiningmicro-slides, children will be able to identify the major parts of a plant.Following this enlightening workshop, students will watch a seed theyplanted in a soil-less environment, thrive and grow into a thing of beauty.

Students will be plantingtheir own Bean Plant as well as constructing theirown 3-D Flower to bringhome with them.

Squares, triangles, cylinders, domes and arches will all be exploredas we introduce students to the super strong world of structures.

While building a bridge together, students will gain valuable experienceasking and solving important structural issues. Through a series of coolhands-on experiments, students will identify building materials bestsuited for specific structures. Children will discover which forces areacting on a structure. Everyone will construct an amazing 3-D Cubewhich will be put through a Mad Science strength test.

During an amusing demonstration, Junior Mineralogists will discoverhow rocks are classified. Using the Moh’s Hardness Scale and avariety of minerals, students will test, observe and record their findings.Panning for gems will excite all thrill seekers. Peeling back the layers,students will expose the earth’s core, mantle and crust and reproducean exciting volcanic eruption.

While exploring howdifferent sediments settle,students will bring homeGems discovered duringpanning and a super coolSedimentary Stacker.

Home sweet healthy home! During this environmentally friendly workshop, students will discover that a healthy habitat is paramountfor the survival of all plants and animals.

Students will be amazed to learn how even small changes in the environmenthave an impact on every life form. Through a series of cool experiments,children will discover why all habitats have limits to the number of speciesthey can support. Secrets of the food chain will be unlocked and students willclassify organisms according to their placement in the food chain. Studentswill learn the difference between carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.We will explore the various ways animals adapt to their environment.

HIn addition to receivinga Journal, each childwill build their ownHabitat Dice Gameand create a DinoTooth to bring home.

Through a series of Push me, Pull me experiments students will test howvarious pulley systems help move objects, lift heavy loads and overcomefriction. In the second half of our groovy workshop, children will investigategears and learn how a worm can turn a gear, but how a gear cannot turn aworm. There will be no backpedaling once students discover how they canmake a bicycle go faster. Children will be amazed to realize the role gearsplay in converting kinetic energy from wind energy into mechanical energy.

Creating a compoundpulley, students will maketheir own Desk Elevator.Using beveled gears theywill also construct a CatCatcher to bring homewith them.

We will shine a beacon of light and sing a songfor sound in this entertaining workshop.

We will expose light and sound as forms of energy thattravel in waves. Using a Mad Science radiometer, childrenwill be amazed to discover that light energy can move anobject. Children will conduct tests on different materials todetermine how they interact differently with light, and beable to identify each as opaque, transparent or translucent.

To demonstrate how pitch changes,children will construct a Pan Flute to take home with them. Students willrecognize light as a key element foroptical illusions and will make a MoirePattern Generator of their very own.

Through a series of lively experiments, children will test the Law of Conservation of Energy, proving energy cannot becreated or destroyed, only changed. Students will explore avariety of ways to convert one type of energy into another.Your children will discover that the earth’s energy is limitedand will be able to identify renewable and non-renewablesources.

Using kinetic energy to store potentialenergy, students will make a surprisingRattlesnake Scare sure to rattle somenerves. In addition, they will constructa Hovercraft capable of converting oneform of energy into another.

Students will be amazed during this stimulating workshop, as theydiscover the diverse forms energy may take and identify examplesfrom everyday life.

During exciting and interactive demonstrations, students will be able to answer the age-old question ... what’s matter?

Frosty dry ice and hot melting metal will be used to illustrate the changes that can occur to matter. Evaporation, condensationand sublimation are three awe-inspiring words students won’tsoon forget. Children will be amazed to discover the differencesbetween physical and chemical changes. Through a series ofcool hands-on experiments, students will test how chemicalsinteract when combined. We will light up the classroom with an astonishing indoor fireworks display.

HWith a pinch of this and a dropof that, students will produce achemical reaction, creating aPolymer and a growing CrystalGarden to bring home.

As the forces of tension and compression act up, studentswill discover the affects they have on structures. Throughouta series of experiments, students will identify what materialsare required to withstand both misbehaving forces. Childrenwill recognize the difference between a dead and live load.Children will build an amazing Model Truss Bridge, marking the areas where tension or compression is evident.

With the knowledge they haveacquired, students will constructtheir own structure that will beput through a Mad Sciencestability test.

Graduates of the University of Diversity will have a clearunderstanding of biodiversity and preservation strategies.

During this fun and interactive workshop the mystery of classification systems will be revealed as children put animalsin their place. Close to home, students will investigate thebreathtaking impact an invading species, Zebra Mussels, hadon Ontario lakes. Children will investigate the characteristics ofliving things and explore the benefits biodiversity has on thehuman species. Using micro-slides, students will take a closerlook at eight common types of bacteria.

HStudents will create a self-contained eco-system whenthey construct a MiniatureTerrarium to bring home withthem.

In this fun and engaging workshop children will learn how variousforms of energy can be transformed into electrical energy. Duringa series of shocking, hands-on experiments children will testmaterials to identify good conductors and poor conductors. JuniorElectricians will investigate the components of a circuit whiletesting electric circuits and the concept of electricity as flowingelectrons. As newly formed information magnets, student willcreate a Circuit Board Quiz Game to challenge their families.

Harnessing the power ofmagnets and electricity,children will construct anElectromagnet as well asa Circuit Board Quiz Gameto bring home with them.

Up, up and away! During this uplifting workshop students will be blownaway as they investigate the mighty properties of air and identify how itis possible for humans to fly.

Through a series of experiments, children will discover air pressureand Bernoulli’s Principle. The wonders of flight, lift, drag, propulsionand gravity will all be revealed. Everyone will be amazed as theywitness a classmate levitate above the floor. Children will put theirnew found knowledge of flight to the ultimate test as they constructa Flying Football Plane and a Bernoulli Disc.

HIncorporating differentdesigns, your children willbe constructing threedifferent Gliders that eachhave unique aerodynamicproperties.

During this hands-on workshop students will use models to identify therelative size of the planets and the distances between each. Through a seriesof unique experiments students will discover the shocking truth about howastronauts meet their basic needs while living and working in space. Studentswill identify the moon as a natural satellite and understand the evolution ofman-made satellites. Your young stargazers will construct a map of the skies,identifying the stars and planets visible throughout the year.

Students will bemaking a Planisphereas well as a FlyingFizzler to bringhome with them.

Out of this world! Junior Astronauts will take a space journeythrough the solar system identifying planets, comets and meteors.
