Swinton Parish Newsletter
The Steering Group which
was formed in September
2009 has spent much time
over the past few months
analysing the results of the
questionnaire which went out
to all residents just after
Christmas.
These results, together with
additional comments and
other articles of interest are
forming part of the Swinton
Village Plan which is currently
being compiled and will hope-
fully go to print by the end of
September.
This Plan is something which
all parishes have been asked
to do and can be used as a
tool to inform, campaign and
lobby for the services we need
in the village, as well as pro-
duce an Action Plan as to
how we will try to do this.
One of the main results from
the questionnaire was that
people would like more vil-
lage events and if the turnout
for the Treasure Hunt and
barbecue was anything to go
by, they will support them!
The Steering Group will be
planning an official launch of
this and there will be one
copy for every household in
the village which will be hand
delivered.

Saturday 10th July, a hot,
sunny day saw the official
opening of Swinton’s new
play area. This was the culmi-
nation of a period of fund
raising.
The opening ceremony was
performed by Mrs Sarah Jane
Voeleker whose grandfather
Clive Behrens of Swinton
Grange gave the piece of land
to the village on the under-
standing that it was to be used
as a playground. Mrs Voeleker
told the assembled villagers
how delighted she was to be
asked to perform the opening
ceremony and stated ― had my
grandfather been alive today
he would have been abso-
lutely delighted to see how
well the area had been main-
tained and what good use the
land had been put to‖.
Jessica Farrow presented Mrs
Voelleker with a bouquet of
flowers.
Once the ribbon had been
cut the children were enter-
tained by. Magic Mike, the
magician and his girls who did
face painting, and a bouncy
castle courtesy of Charlie
Farrow.
Matty Hood. York City junior
coach organized football
coaching and a world cup
penalty shoot out.
Prizes included tickets to see
York City.
Burgers and hot dogs were
provided by Bob Hornsey.
Thank you to everyone who
supported the project, to
those who helped on the day
and to the villagers who
turned out in such numbers.

Swinton Parish Council.

This is the first of many fu-
ture newsletters for the Parish
of Swinton. Our aim is to
bring information and articles
that are of interest to the Par-
ish community to every
household. It was an hearten-
ing sign to see so many resi-
dents turn out for the Village
Treasure Hunt. Our thanks go
out to everyone who helped
organise and run the event.
Also a big well done, to all
who carried on through the
heavy rain to complete the
Course.
To build on the success of the
Treasure Hunt we need volun-
teers to organise the Safari Night
and the Bonfire Night events.

Health Issues. Dog fouling can cause many problems, the most serious of which is in-fection with Toxocara canis. This is a roundworm which can be transferred to humans following contact with dog mess. Symptoms are aches and pains, bronchial condi-tions and in more severe cases can lead to damage to eyesight
Today when I stepped outside
my door and walked down the
drive, I walked onto fresh dog
pooh. This is both disgusting
and a health hazard. Would
