FEBUSSFuel cell Energy systems standardized for large transport, BUSes and Stationary applications

ObjectivesThe FEBUSS project (a 5 year program launched in 2002) relates to the development of a 100 kW fuel cell hydrogen powered system, standardized for urban transport systems and to stationary applications.

To guarantee a level playing-field in the two markets, the system design will incorporate a mass production objective at a cost of €300/kW. Furthermore, to improve ease of maintenance, reliability and performance, the following are also to be built into the project:· an innovative stack (cell core)· a fluid distribution design· new design auxiliaries· performance from 0.6 V at 0.6 A / cm²

ANNUAL IMPLEMENTATION PLAN 2008

Adopted by the FCH JU Governing Board on 6 October 2008Stationary Power Generation & Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

The research objectives of this application area are designed to reflect the main needs of the three principal fuel cell technologies, i.e. MCFC, PEMFC and SOFC.

The programme aims to achieve the principal technical and economic requirements needed to compete with existing energy conversion technologies, such as high electrical efficiencies of 45%+ for power units and of 80%+ for CHP combined with lower emissions and use of nonhydrocarbon fuels.

Focussed efforts are required to address lifetime requirements of 40,000 hours
