BDK Pulling ToolThe Weatherford BDK Pulling Tool is designed for running andretrieving down-hole flow control devices with external fishing necks.

With the pulling tool in the latched position, the dogs are supportedwithin the skirt of the tool. This allows sustained jarring without fear ofshearing the dogs. For surface release operation the dog assemblyhas a finger grip to enable manual release of the of the tool from theretrieved fishing neck without the need to shear the tool.

The tool can be converted from a shear up tool to a shear tool simplyby changing the top sub. In addition a range of cores are available toalter the reach of the tool.

DU Pulling ToolThe Weatherford Petroline DU Pulling Tool was designed to overcome theweaknesses of conventional pulling tools used to recover equipment with internalfishing necks. When retrieving many lock mandrel types it is necessary to jar bothdownwards, to free-off relative key motion, and upwards, to overcome seal friction.The DU was designed to overcome the following limitations of standard GS typepulling tools where 2 separate runs may be required to recover a lock mandrel:

Downward jarring will shear a GS-type pulling tool.

Upward jarring will shear the alternativeGR-type pulling tool.

Consequently, 'one-run' devices can often require at least two runs to recover. Thedesign of the DU Pulling Tool overcomes these problems by allowing bi-directionaljarring. Initial downward jarring will not affect the DU, no matter how prolonged orsevere. Subsequent upward jarring can also be applied indefinitely. This actionmerely shears screws in the DU mechanism, which moves the tool into a pre-releaseposition. Final downward jarring will shear the release pin, allowing retrieval of theDU from the fishing neck.

In addition, the DU offers improved retrievability over a conventional GS design. Witha GS-type pulling tool, debris inside a lock mandrel, or incorrect equalizing prongspacing, may prevent the pulling tool from shouldering-out on the fishing neck. Thismeans that the GS release pin will not shear and a fishing job is the likely result.However, the design of the DU Pulling Tool is such that it can be released from thefishing neck even where the DU does not shoulder-out.

DU Pulling Tool


Type WB Shifting ToolThe WB Shifting Tool is used to open or close all Weatherford and industrystandard sliding sleeves. Operation of the tool moves the inner sleeve to the openor closed position.

The shifting tool engages the profile in the upper or lower end of the inner sleeveto permit the sleeve to be shifted by jarring action. The tool is designed to releaseitself only after the sleeve reaches its fully open or closed position. A releasingprofile on the key acts to compress the key spring and release the shifting tool. Ashear pin is an added feature designed to release the tool in the event of wellconditions making it impossible to shift the sleeve.

Sets of non-releasing keys are available for the WB shifting Tool to permit shiftingone among several circulating devices in one well bore. These keys do not have areleasing profile. The shifting tool pin must be sheared to release.

NOTE: The WB Shifting Tool will not pass through position 1 S type landingnipples.

The WB Shifting Tool when used to shift the Weatherford RIV Sliding Sleeveproduct uses the B-1, B-2 B-3 and B-4 keys. These keys designed by Weatherfordwhich enable the shifting tool to run through a larger numbered sleeve, and shiftthe sleeve with a matching number or lower.

Type WB Shifting Tool



WD-2 Shifting ToolThe WD-2 Shifting Tool is used to open or close the Weatherford 'WL' Sliding Sleeve.

The WD-2 is run in either the opening position (shifting dogs facing up) or closing position(shifting dogs facing down) by inverting the tool.

The shifting dogs are held in the closed position by a spring-loaded retractor. When thecollet engages the bore of the sleeve, by slacking off weight for opening or up-strain forclosing, the retractor is moved away from the shifting dogs allowing them to engage theprofile of the 'WL' Sliding Sleeve. At this point, jarring up will shift the sleeve in the requireddirection.

The WD-2 Shifting Tool has 3 shear pins to permit the dogs to retract in the event that thesleeve will not move.

These designs proved to be stronger and more reliable than the previous generation of tools. The ultimate testfor these tools has been their use with the Heavy Duty Wireline Fishing Service. Using 2-1/16" toolstrings, impact forcesin excess of 150,000 lbs are achievable.

Weatherford Completion Systems operate 6 Heavy Duty Wireline Fishing packages, 3 in the North Sea and 3 in the Gulfof Mexico. In addition to the established products shown here, we can design and manufacture equipment to solvespecific downhole problems. Alligator GrabThe BDK Alligator Grab is designed to retrieve items from the wellbore whereconventional grapples and debris grabs have failed.

The tool incorporates adjustable spring tension giving the operator controlover the Alligator Grabs jaw force.

The Grab is designed with two Alligator type serrated jaws. These areactivated by downward jarring which shears a pin in the Jaw body allowingthe spring to activate the jaws in a scissors like motion.

Releasable Alligator GrabThe Weatherford Petroline Releasable Alligator Grab was developed toaddress the performance limitations of previous designs. A number ofimprovements were made resulting in a tool which could be relied on toretrieve loose debris or 'junk' from a well-bore, even at depth in a highdeviation.

The Releasable Alligator Grab, when in the 'run' position requires a small pinto be sheared before it can activate. This is accomplished by light downwardjarring once the ‘junk’ is located but prevents premature activation when IDrestrictions in the well-bore are encountered.

In addition there is also a safety release feature so that if the debris is notretrievable, upward jarring shears a release pin allowing the grab todisengage.

Both these features are further enhanced by the adjustable spring rating,which determines how much force is generated when activated.

Dump BailerThe Weatherford Dump Bailer and Inverted Dump Bailer aredesigned to carry acids, mercury and other fluids down to a point inthe wellbore where they will be most effective i.e. Plugs, CheckValves, SCSSSV Flow Tubes.

Downward jarring is required to overcome the shear pin that allowsthe plunger to rupture a shear disc.

The Inverted Dump Bailer is utilized to carry heavy viscosity fluidssuch as cement. With the Inverted Dump Bailer downward jarringis required to shear the pin, which allows the plunger to rupture theshear disc. The shear disc is pushed out through the Bailer,leaving an unrestricted through bore making this Bailer moresuitable for use with heavier viscosity fluids.

Hydrostatic BailerThe Weatherford Hydrostatic Bailer is used to remove sand, mud fallout, salt,paraffin, scale and other solids from the well bore, where pump type bailershave been ineffective due to the solidified nature of the debris.

When assembled the chamber remains at atmospheric pressure. On contactwith the debris in the well-bore the bailer is activated by jarring down to shearthe pins. Once sheared the well-bore pressure (including hydrostatic) forcesthe piston up into the cylinder ‘sucking’ the solids or debris into the chamber.The ball or flapper check prevents any debris loss.

The pressure relief valve operates automatically as the bailer is recoveredfrom the well, balancing the internal and external pressure. At surface theinternal pressure will be at atmospheric.

This tool is designed to retrieve down hole flow control deviceswith damaged internal fish necks.The tool (excluding the mandrel) is run using the upper fish neck,downward jarring will set the retrieving collet and shear theRunning Tool. The mandrel is then run in, latching the upperfishing neck, upward jarring sets the tool and retrieves the lock.To release from the lock a reverse of the procedure will allow a fullretrieval of the Fishing Tool.

This tool is designed to retrieve down hole devices by locating inthe bore when the exact internal diameter cannot be determineddue to damage, 'wash-out', or wear.The tapered Mandrel allows expansion of the collet to contact thebore. The tool is run using the upper fishing neck. Downwardjarring will set the retrieving Collet and shear the Running Tool.The pulling Tool is then run in, latching the lower fishing neck.Upward jarring sets the tool and retrieves the lock.To release from the lock a reverse of the procedure will allow fullretrieval of the Fishing Tool. The Fishing Tool can also be used forretrieval of tools with damaged internal fishing necks.An alternative Pulling Neck is available should an external FishingNeck be preferred.

Heavy Duty Releasable OvershotThe Weatherford Petroline Heavy Duty Releasable Overshot (HDRO) has beendesigned to withstand jarring forces experienced during complex heavy duty fishingoperations. Manufactured to the highest standard, the HDRO is the most robustovershot on the market today.

The HDRO has been designed with the ability to release from the fish if desired. Thisis simply achieved by downward jarring until the pin shears allowing the top submandrel to move downwards and latch the top of the slip mandrel. From anoperational point of view, the overshot is of a simple design with no complexcomponents. No special tools are required for dismantling or reassembling and ittherefore requires the minimum of maintenance.

The tool is released by downward jarring until the pin shears allowing the top submandrel to move downwards and latch the top of the slip mandrel.

The HDRO is available in a range of sizes with a complementary range of slips andcores.

Releasable OvershotThe Releasable Overshot is designed for use when theengagement of a regular pulling tool is impossible due to wear or mechanicaldamage to the fishing neck.The Releasable Overshot has the advantage that, should the fish becomestuck, it can be released. Downward jarring will shear the shear pins releasingthe overshot slips from around the fish.

Sidewall CutterThe Weatherford BDK® Sidewall Cutter is designed to cut thewireline at any point within the tubing string.

The Sidewall Cutter is run into the tubing (Running Prongoptional) alongside the wire until the required depth is reached,the cutter is then activated by gently downward jarring. Thisshears the pin allowing the mandrel to force the Cutter againstthe tubing wall. Further downward jarring will cause the cutterblades to sever the wireline.

Wireline SnipperThe Weatherford BDK® Wireline Snipper is used to cut the wireline at theRope Socket when down hole tools become stuck. When the tools are fouledabove the Rope Socket a Go-Devil, complete with Rope Socket is dropped.This will then give the Snipper a clear Rope Socket to cut on when it isdropped. A Jumbo Nose as illustrated can be used to prevent the protrudingcutter fouling a restriction which will result in premature cutting of the wire.An upside down sub is available for situations when the fish is fouled abovethe Rope Socket, i.e. sand, scale etc. The cutter is then dropped in the upsidedown position followed by a Go-Devil to activate the cutter.

Centralizers are available for use with the Wireline Snipper.

Internal Spear - Self ReleasingThe Self Releasing Internal Fishing Spear is a fishing toolespecially designed for down hole flow control devices that have damagedfishing necks. The tool is run to depth and the collet retracts to allow entry intothe fish. Upward jarring can then be continued to free the fish. To release fromthe fish, downward jarring will shear the pin and activate the release mandrel.

Finder SpearThe Weatherford BDK Finder/Spear is used in the same way as the standardCentre Spear, to release or retrieve balls of wire that have become stuck inthe well bore. However, by using a skirt with the Spear, the chances of passingthe wire are reduced.

Expandable GrabThe Expandable Grab is generally run after the wirefinder.The spring loaded prongs of the Grab continually run against the tubing wallensuring that the wireline will entangle inside the prongs of the Grab.

The advantage of the Expandable Grab over the more conventional tool, isthat it will not pass through the center of the wire coils if the line has not beenballed correctly. It will also pass through restricted internal diameters ofnipples etc. expanding into larger internal diameters further down hole.

The Expandable Grab is manufactured with a central box thread so a CenterSpear can be attached if required.

The Multi-RollerWheel Linear Jar is a telescoping jar that should be run in conjunction withwireline stem and installed immediately below. The linear bearings create africtionless action, allowing full force of impact from the stem above.

Multi-RollerWheel SnipperThe Multi-Roller Wheel Wireline Snipper is designed foruse in deviated wells. The design offers a 360 degree wheel contact whichreduces the friction caused by contact with the tubing wall. The Snipper willreach the fish without the normal problems associated with the conventionalSnippers. A jumbo nose cone is supplied for use in Gas Lift Completion toensure blade contact is only made at the rope socket and not prematurely atcrossovers or side pocket mandrels.

Spring Roller CentralizerThe Weatherford Petroline Spring Roller Centralizer (SRC) is designed to improvewireline operations in high deviation wells. The SRC has already been widely used inwells of more than 80 Deg deviations.

SRC's are positioned strategically in the wireline toolstring to provide complete rollingcontact with the tubing wall. This removes all frictional sliding forces.

The high-energy spring stack also gives a weight indication at surface when the SRCpasses through a profile or restriction. This makes the tool a valuable aid in achievingwireline depth control without the need for electric line. The SRC can be used tolocate Petroline's Depth Correlation Subs when performing slick or braided lineoperations in the liner or completion wellbore.

The Broach is designed to removeburrs in the tubing left after perforating procedures have been carried out. Tubing End LocatorThe Weatherford BDK® Tubing End Locator is used to locate the end of thetubing so that its depth may be measured accurately.When running in, the spring loaded latch trails in the tubing. As it enters thecasing/open hole, the latch springs out fully to its stop (shear pin).To reenter the tubing, the pin must be sheared allowing the latch arm tocollapse into the locator body.

Wireline BrushThe Weatherford BDK Wireline Brush is used to brush out waxes, scale andother debris from the tubing string or landing nipples prior to running downhole flow control devices.

A wire size up to 7/32" is looped (or cut to suitable lengths) and inserted inholes and retained with locking screws. (Wire not supplied).

The Wireline Brush is 3ft long and can be assembled in the toolstring as asubstitute for a 3ft piece of Stem.

Hay Pulley/Floor BlockThe Weatherford BDK Hay Pulley/Floor Block is used tocontrol the route of the wireline or cable from the winch tothe Grease Injection Head or Stuffing Box. Floor blocks aresecured by chain or strop at a suitable point on or near theLubricator Rig Up. The Hay pulley can also be usedsuspended from the drilling block or a relevant fixture. Inaddition Floor Block stands are available which prevent theblock from falling over when wireline or cable is slacked off.
