16.1) TEACHER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME 2017-18
CONCLUDING PROGRAMME
KSCST along with Anubhava Science Foundation, Bengaluru and Department of
Education, Government of Karnataka at the Block level organised “Teachers’
Enrichment Programme” at Indian Institute of Science campus. Teachers’
Enrichment Programme is a year-long programme envisioned to enrich the
teaching - learning of science and mathematics in Higher Primary schools of
Karnataka. The Teachers’ Enrichment Programme is offered in physical mode
with contact sessions spread over one year for government and aided higher
primary school teachers. The programme was launched on 16th August 2017. The
contact sessions was held during August 2017 (five days), October 2017 (three
days), December 2017 (five days), January 2018 (two days). The programme was
concluded on 11th April 2018. Mrs. Anjali, Senior Assistant Director, Department
of Education, Government of Karnataka was the chief guest of programme. 32
Higher Primary school teachers were awarded with certificates.
Teacher Enrichment Programme : 2018 – 19
KSCST in collaboration of Anubhava Science Foundation and Department of
Education, Government of Karnataka organised Teacher Enrichment Programme
2018 – 19 for Government Higher Primary School Teachers teaching science from
Class 5 to Class 8 of Magadi taluk, Ramanagara District. The programme was
launched on 12th June 2018 at Brilliant’s Valley International Residential
School, Solur, Magadi taluk, Ramanagara District. 50 teachers are participated
in the programme.
First contact session was from 12th – 15th June 2018. The second contact session
was held on 6th – 8th August 2018 at Brilliant’s Valley International Residential
School, Solur, Magadi taluk, Ramanagara District. The third contact session is
scheduled on 29th to 31st October 2018 at Brilliant’s Valley International
Residential School, Solur, Magadi taluk, Ramanagara District.
16.2) MULTIMEDIA STUDIO CUM VIDEO CONFERENCING
FACILITY AT KSCST - “PROF. AMULYA K.N. REDDY S&T
VIDEO STREAMING STUDIO”
Progress:
The Council has organized several technical talks by Experts, Invitees, Scientists
and Engineers. During the month of June 2018 a technical lecture by
Dr. R. Nagarathna of SVYASA was organised. The discussion was on Yoga and
Meditation.

16.3) AWARENESS-CUM-TRAINING PROGRAM ON PLASMA
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AND ENERGY FROM NUCLEAR
FUSION
KSCST in collaboration with Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar,
Gujarat organized “Awareness-cum-training program on Plasma Science &
Technology and Energy from Nuclear Fusion” on 12th & 13th July 2018 for the
High school teachers and PU Faculty from Southern States. 69 High school
teachers and PU Faculty from Karnataka, Kerala, Taminadu, Telangana and
Andhra Pradesh participated in the programme. Introduction to Plasma, Basic
Fusion, Plasma Applications and demonstration of Hands-on-Experiments were
held during the programme. The experts from Institute for Plasma Research
were participated in the workshop.
16.4) VIJNANA DARSHAN – STUDENTS FROM ARUNACHAL
PRADESH
KSCST with the support of Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and
Technology organized “Vijnana Darshan – students from Arunachal Pradesh”
from 19th to 21st July 2018. 10 students and 5 faculty members from Arunachal
Pradesh State visited Bengaluru. During the programme, the students visited
ISRO Satellite Centre, HAL Heritage Museum, Lalbagh, Jawaharlal Nehru
Planetarium, VITM, IISc and metro ride was also organized. Various
experiments on Optics, Electro magnetism were also demonstrated by research
scholars of IISc.

16.5) RADIO SERIAL ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Science,
Bengaluru, Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology, Government of
India, and All India Radio, Bengaluru in fulfilment of its science popularization
mandate and with the aim of creating awareness about sustainable environment
among general public, broadcasting the radio serial “Sustainable Development”
from 18th June 2017 and completed broadcasting of 52 episodes on 26th August
2018 in Kannada and Konkani language.
Episodes contains the details on Sustainability and Industrial Revolution,
consumption of Natural Resources, India Ethos & Practices on SD, Sustainable
Development Goal 2030 Energy, sustainable cities, Disaster deduction,
Protecting and Managing Natural Resources, Agriculture, Food security,
Education & Skill, Ocean a & Marine ecosystem, Fossil Fuel & Environment. We
have received an average of 7000 response from the listeners through email, post
card and SMS.
Brain Storming and Review Meeting of Radio serial
The Brain Storming Meeting and Review Meeting of Radio Serial hosted by
Uttarakhand State Council for Science Technology (UCOST) and supported by
Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India,
New Delhi was held between 24th – 25th July 2018 at UCOST, Dehradun.
KSCST attended this meeting and presented the progress of the Radio Serial on
“Sustainable Development – ಜೀವ ನಿರಂತರ ”.
The discussion was made on New Radio Serial on “Climate Change and Global
Warming” which will be initiated during November 2018 and on various topics.
Contents of 52 Episodes and title of the Serial was discussed and suggestions
were taken from the participants during the meeting.
16.6) STUDENT PROJECT PROGRAMME (SPP):
41ST SERIES : 2017 - 2018
Under the 41st series of SPP, the Council has received 2973 projects from 157
engineering college across the state. After the evaluation by a team of experts a
total of 598 projects were selected for sponsorship under the 41st series. The list
of projects selected for the sponsorship were displayed in the month of April 2018
in Council's website and also by letter to the respective project groups.
Council has conducted midterm evaluation to review the project work at 10
different engineering colleges across the state. The following are the venues for

In the midterm evaluation a total of 404 projects have been selected for the
annual Seminar and Exhibition. The list of projects selected for seminar and
Exhibition has been displayed in Councils website and also circulated to the
respective colleges by letter in the month of June 2018.
The Council organised the 41st Series Seminar and Exhibition on 10th and
11th August 2018, at Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology,
Davanagere. The program was inaugurated on 10th August 2018 at 10.30 AM by
Dr. S. Rajashekharaiah, Former Vice Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological
University, Belagavi. Ms. K.M. Jaanaki, IAS, Managing Director, Karnataka

State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB), Government of Karnataka and
Shri. Kunal Satyarthi, IFS, Member Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Council for
Science, Technology and Environment, Shimla and Shri. A. C. Jayanna,
Chairman, BIET and Treasurer were the Guests of Honour for the inaugural
event. Prof. S. Subramanian, Secretary, KSCST, Dr. S. G. Sreekanteswara
Swamy, Executive Secretary, KSCST, Dr. S. Subrahmanya Swamy, Principal,
BIET, Davangere and Prof. Y. V. Vrushabendrappa, Director, BIET, Davangere
also addressed the gathering.
In this 41st Series of SPP, 144 Engineering and 51 Biofuel projects were selected
for Seminar and 198 Engineering projects and 11 Biofuel projects have been
selected for Exhibition. Out of these, 216 Engineering and 51 Biofuel projects
have presented their work in Seminar and Exhibition.
More than 35 experts from IISc, NAL, KSCST and industry officials participated
in the 41st Series State Level Seminar and Exhibition and reviewed the projects
for selection of Awards.
A total of 53 projects were awarded as "Best project of the year" and K.L.E.
College of Engineering and Technology, Chikkodi was awarded as the "Best
Performing College" by the experts after the evaluation at the Seminar and
Exhibition. Further 53 projects were identified by the experts for further
improvement and 3 projects were selected for commercialization.
In addition, a special lecture was arranged during this event. Dr. Mayank
Shrivastava, Professor, Department of Electronic Systems Engineering, Indian
Institute of Science delivered a technical lecture on “The Role of World
Electronics and Possible Role India Can Play” on 11th August 2018 between 12.00
to 1.00 PM.
The Valedictory program and Awards Presentation function of this Seminar and
Exhibition was held on Saturday, 11th August 2018 at 3.00 PM at Bapuji
Institute of Engineering and Technology, Davanagere. Dr. H. Honnegowda,
Special Director (Technical), Department of Science and Technology and
Managing Director, Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society,
(KSTePS), Government of Karnataka was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory

16.7) TWO DAY TEACHERS TRAINING PROGRAMME IN
MATHEMATICS SYLLABUS IN 6 REGIONS OF
KARNATAKA
KSCST in collaboration with various organizations organized two day teachers
training workshop for High school teachers in Mathematics syllabus during June
and July 2018. Around 400 teachers have been benefitted through this

KSCST in collaboration with Sagar Science Forum, Sagara organized
Mathematics Workshop for High School Teachers and PU Faculty in Sagara
taluk on 1st July 2018. About 60 participants participated in the workshop.

16.9) IMPLEMENTATION OF VIRTUAL LABORATORY
(E-LEARNING CENTRES) TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF
EDUCATION IN THE BACKWARD TALUKS OF
KARNATAKA – SUPPORTED BY GOK.
Background:
Under Special Development Programme – KSTePS, Department of Science and
Technology, Government of Karnataka during March 2014 had sanctioned 120
Lakhs to implement the Project entitled “Establishment of Virtual laboratory to
improve the quality of Education in backward taluks of the State”.
The objectives of establishing these laboratories are to improve the quality and
effectiveness of education by collaborative learning and teaching process through
IT enabled software & tools.
KSCST is planning to upgrade the technology and scientific contents.
Progress:
▪ KSCST is monitoring and interacting with all Virtual Lab (VL) established
schools and responds / rectify the problems if occurred.
▪ KSCST has organised the review meeting on 4th April 2018 to discuss about
the progress and strengthening of these VL schools.
▪ KSCST has initiated to strengthen the VL schools established under DST,
GoK by providing IT gadgets / tools and rectification of the hardwares.
Further, KSCST has identified the vendor for the procurement of computer
accessories which has worn-out and has initiated rectification of some of the
Hardwares which are not functioning. KSCST is in the process of receiving
the malfunctioning Computer hardwares from the VL schools.
▪ Presently the digital contents provided to these schools needs to be updated to
the present NCERT syllabus. KSCST is interacting with Swamy Vivekananda
Youth Movement (SVYM) to get the updated digital contents developed by
them to these schools.
16.10) ESTABLISHMENT OF VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS (VCR) TO
IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION IN 10 TALUKS
OF KARNATAKA (SUPPORTED UNDER CSR FUNDS
FROM RURAL ELECTRIFICATION CORPORATION, GoI)
Background:
Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST), Bengaluru is
implementing Virtual Class Rooms (VCR) in 10 high schools in the backward
talukas of Karnataka, based on the successful implementation of the Virtual
Classroom project in 10 schools under Special Development Programme –
KSTePS, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka.
The objectives of these Classrooms are to improve the quality and effectiveness of
education by collaborative learning and teaching process through IT enabled
software and tools. During 2016-17 KSCST has been supported by the Rural
Electrification Corporation Limited, New Delhi and has sanctioned Rs. 174 lakhs
to KSCST to implement the above programme.
Progress:
▪ KSCST has successfully completed the process of e – Procurement / Tendering
and identified the vendor for the development of syllabus based 3D interactive
science experiments. Purchase order for the same has been issued to the
vendor.
▪ KSCST has interacted with all the schools and informed to provide the school
results and student admission details. The information has been received
from all the schools and further, the same will be used for the analysis of the
success of the project through impact assessment. All the schools have
achieved good results and admissions of students to these schools have been
increased.
▪ KSCST has interacted with the students and teachers of the VCR school
established at Malavalli, Mandya (D) through Skype interaction.
▪ KSCST has sanctioned Rs. 15,000/- each to all the VCR centers established
under REC for BSNL broadband internet connectivity for one year, telephone
and Wi-Fi modem for connectivity. Further, skype web camera has been
provided to all VCR high schools for student expert interaction.
▪ KSCST has requested REC, Bengaluru to extend the project upto March 2019
and the REC, Bengaluru approved the same.
▪ KSCST has organised a meeting to review the 3D experiments developed by
M/s. LabinApp Technology Pvt. Ltd., on the scheduled dates given below.
Further, KSCST has formed Review Committee consisting of subject experts
and teachers from VCR/VL schools to review all the 3D experiments developed
by M/s. LabinApp Technology Pvt. Ltd.
▪ The progress report of the project for the Month April to August 2018 was
prepared with action plan and submitted to REC Zonal Office, Bengaluru.

16.11) TECHNICAL AND MANAGEMENT SUPPORT TO
KARNATAKA RESIDENTIAL EDUCATIONAL
INSTITUTIONS SOCIETY (KREIS), DEPARTMENT OF
SOCIAL WELFARE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF
E –LEARNING CENTERS AT 10 RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS
ACROSS KARNATAKA
• Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS), Social
Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka has approached KSCST to
provide Technical and Management support for establishment of Virtual
Classrooms / E-Learning Centres in the Residential Schools which are
working under KREIS.
• Technical and managerial support was provided to KREIS, for submitting
the proposal to Rural Electrification Corporation, New Delhi. REC has
sanctioned 180 Lakhs to KREIS for establishment of 10 E-Learning Centres .
KREIS has approached KSCST to provide technical and managerial support
and has agreed to give 1.5% of the total cost of the project as consultancy fees
to KSCST. Baseline Survey was completed by KSCST.
• KSCST has prepared the tender document for procurement of Hardware and
Software to establish E-Learning Centers. Further, KSCST has organized a
meeting with KREIS and IISc experts on 28th August 2018 to finalise
technical specifications for e-tendering notification.
• KREIS has provided the list of Ekalavya Model Residential Schools located
in 1) Konchuru, Wadi, Kalaburagi, 2) Tavaga, Belagavi, 3) Taruve,
Chikkamagaluru 4) Balagodu, Virajpet, Kodagu, 5) Devarakote, Hiriyur,
Chitradurga, 6) GangarayanaPalli, Srinivasapura, Kolar, 7) Sollepura, HD
Kote, Mysuru, 8) Kottadoddi, Raichur, 9) Bhajanahalli, Koratagere,
Tumakuru, 10) Mangala, Chamarajanagara. KSCST has uploaded in
Karnataka e-Procurement portal for identification of vendor and published
the same notification in Daily News Papers.
• Conducted pre-bid meeting on 17th September 2018 and 11 companies
participated and has shown interest to bid and clarified the technical and
financial details.

organized “Science Magic Show”: A demonstration of experiments on physics and
chemistry for the High School students based on the syllabus was done. The

16.13) DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND PROTOTYPE MAKING OF
MATHEMATICAL TOYS
KSCST with the collaboration of Dr. H. N. Science Centre in Gauribidanur is
developing mathematical toys by using Bamboo. The main aim of the project is to
create prototypes of 22 mathematical toys in bamboo. The concept for the toys
was designed by the Math Communicator Shri. V. S. S. Sastry. M/s. Uravu
Indigenous Science and Technology Study Centre, Therikkaipetta, Waynad,
Kerala was identified for undertaking the design and fabrication of toys. During
phase 1 of the project, prototypes were designed and developed namely Magic
numbers Pakida, Square – rectangle puzzle, Equation forming cards,
Multiplication Table Rainmaker, Pythagorean Triplet Pen-Stand, Boy with cycle
and fish with angles. These toys will help to understand both simple and
advanced mathematical problems like the decimal system, theorems like
Pythagoras, proportionality, algebraic relationships, Dudeney dissection,
permutations and factorials. Under phase 2 and 3, the remaining toys will be
designed and developed. A sum of Rs. 5 Lakhs has been allocation for this
activity.

16.14) PATENT INFORMATION CENTRE

Objectives:
▪ To create awareness about IPRs, especially patents, in the state and
neighbouring regions of this centre.
▪ To enable patent searches for universities, industry, government departments
and R&D Institutions in the state and around.
▪ To guide inventors in respect of patenting their inventions.
▪ To guide Colleges and Universities to setup IP Cell.
Activities: (April – September 2018)
During this period 8 IPR Awareness Programmes were organized at various
engineering colleges in Karnataka. These programmes aimed at creating
awareness among students, particularly those from final Engineering students
who take project work as a part of their curriculum, Research scholars and
faculty members of the college. About 500 participants were benefited from the
workshops.
Conducted one day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for
Seshadripuram Academy of Business Studies, Kengeri, Bangalore on 31st July
2018 at Choksi Hall, IISc, Bangalore. About 60 students from B.Com and BCA
attended the workshop.
KSCST - GMIT IPR Cell was established on 17th September 2018 at GM Institute
of Technology, Davangere and inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Mr. N. Kumar,
Human Rights Chair Professor, National Law School, Bangalore, followed by two
day workshop on IPR. About 83 beneficiaries from various disciplines from
various colleges and institutions participated in the workshop. Shri. G. M.
Siddeshwara, Member of Parliament – Davanagere was chief guest of the
inaugural function and presided over by Dr. Prakash, C. E, Principal, GMIT.
Dr. S.G.S Swamy, Executive Secretary was also present during the inaugural
function.
PIC Staffs actively participated in evaluation of projects exhibited at 41st series
Student Project Programme held at BIET, Davangere on 10th and 11th August
2018.Around 12 visitors visited PIC for various IPR related queries and
information’s were provided suitably. The visitors include individual innovators,
students and faculty members from engineering colleges.
PIC Staffs along with nominated faculty members participated in the "Hands on
Training Programme on IPR related issue for PIC's and IPC's", conducted by
Technology Development and transfer division, DST, GoI in collaboration with
Patent Facilitation Centre (PFC), Technology Information Forecasting and
Assessment Council (TIFAC) at Chennai from 22nd April to 2nd May.
