MTR believes..“When a young person uses media, he

or she has an opportunity to produce alternative viewpoints that challenge generalised perceptions, creating new ways of seeing and being seen. Young people bring their own perspectives to creative projects, which in turn play a vital role in challenging common misconceptions about them.”

Benefits of Digital Media? a tool to aid a debate that really examines the diversity, difference

and the complexity of understanding between distant places.

the ability to access, understand and create communications in a variety of contexts.

Young people develop skills to actively participate in the world around them

it enables children greater awareness of television/film language, the difference between representation and reality

Participation is key – ‘participating in making their own media provides children a context to explore their imaginations and ideas, provides a mode of self expression.

However, without participation we just take snaphots of children's lives and risk exploiting their involvement.

How we do it... Using good youth work practise and enabling young people from the

onset to have a complete `hands on´ experience. Giving them access to equipment & control on film content through experiential learning, immediately gives young people ownership over the process & product.

No `one size fits all´, we are forever developing our workshop skills & adapting ways of learning to be diverse & as flexible to support all young people’s learning needs.

What young people have said...“You notice every little thing on films now..”“I would like to pass on my knowledge to

others..”“I learnt how to work with other people and how

to combine different ideas into one”“I can express my feelings more: talking louder”“We all worked as a team and at school I can’t

do this...”The way MTR works is about opportunity and

being truthful”
