1 16 October 2016 Welcome to Gold Coast North Anglican Church. Were so glad that you have joined us today and we invite you to parcipate in our worship as freely and fully as you feel comfortable to. Please join us for a cuppa and a chat aſter the service. The Scriptures, as Paul tells Timothy in todays Epistle, are the breath of God - and it is a powerful image for without breath, there is no life. This echoes Jeremiah who tells Judah that God will write his Law upon their hearts and minds and the Psalmist celebrates the Law as sweet honey. So our encounter with God and his Word is not some dry, intellectual thing. Rather it involves heart and mind, our senses and breath, touching every part of our being. Indeed, it is life itself. We are reminded how accurate and relevant this is via the parable of the tax collector and Pharisee. Unlike the arrogant Pharisee, the tax collector was so deeply touched by his encounter with God, he was able to acknowledge his unworthiness before God and seek His mercy and forgiveness. With all of our heart and mind, may each one of us be so touched by God, and encouraged by the tax collector, acknowledge before God our own unworthiness of his Grace, and declare, God, be merciful to me, a sinner!Acknowledgment: Robert McLean, Anglican Board of Mission, 2016 Pew Reflecons From Bishop Len Eaco, AM... 16 October 2016 Welcome to Gold Coast North Anglican Church. We’re so glad that you have joined us today and we invite you to participate in our worship as freely and fully as you feel comfortable to. Please join us for a cuppa and a chat after the service.

The Scriptures, as Paul tells Timothy in today’s Epistle, are the breath of God -

and it is a powerful image for without breath, there is no life.

This echoes Jeremiah who tells Judah that God will write his Law upon their

hearts and minds and the Psalmist celebrates the Law as sweet honey. So our

encounter with God and his Word is not some dry, intellectual thing. Rather it

involves heart and mind, our senses and breath, touching every part of our

being. Indeed, it is life itself.

We are reminded how accurate and relevant this is via the parable of the tax

collector and Pharisee. Unlike the arrogant Pharisee, the tax collector was so

deeply touched by his encounter with God, he was able to acknowledge his

unworthiness before God and seek His mercy and forgiveness.

With all of our heart and mind, may each one of us be so touched by God, and

encouraged by the tax collector, acknowledge before God our own

unworthiness of his Grace, and declare, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

For first time Bible readers we suggest you allow 10 minutes at the same time each day: 3 minutes to make coffee, 1 minute for silent prayer, 3 minutes to read the Bible passage and 3 minutes to pray about your day. If want some help or further suggestions please contact Revd Don Campbell on 0417 190 817 or by email [email protected]

From the Parish Office….

GCNAC October Service themes… Everything we think,

say or do after we say “I believe......” comes under the heading of Stewardship or managing our lives. The service themes during October will present ideas for managing our time, money,

relationships, talents and gifts and caring for the environment. It will be very challenging, so don’t miss a Sunday!

World Vision Membership… As we approach the last few months of the

year, we need to have another membership drive to ensure we can continue to support our five World Vision children in the future. I ask that all parishioners might check with their collector, that they have re-joined in 2016. Please check with Merv Mitchell, Ian Huguenin, Ian Hamilton, Rod Dunlop, Mike Palmer, or Peter Burt. Any new parishioner who is not a member is invited to join our World Vision Children’s Club (Vingt-Sept Club) at a subscription of $20 per year, supporting the five children—three of whom are new children (details of this change will be available over the next week or so).

“Information for my Funeral” booklets… These booklets are now

available from the Welcome desks at each centre, or the parish office, and are designed to facilitate planning for funeral services. You may find them helpful for planning for the unexpected!

Melbourne Cup Luncheon & Fashion Parade… Yes! It is time for fun,

food, fellowship and fashion on Tuesday 1 November 2016, at the Holy Rood Family Centre - 11.30am for 12noon start. Tickets only $25. Free glass of bubbly on arrival, and sweeps will be available for the Big Race. This is a great event—why not come along and spend it in the company of good friends! Call Lesley Dunlop (0400 210 211) for more info.

Male Models needed! Contact Lesley (0400 210 211) if you

want to be part of the fun and games at the Melbourne Cup Op Shop Fashion Parade. We need YOU! Let your hair down and liven up the party!

Many thanks... from Denise & Merv Mitchell for the prayers and well wishes

from our Parish community. How blessed we are to be members of such a faithful group. Every day Denise is getting stronger and hopes to be back with our church friends very soon.

Thought for the Week
