Parish Mission Statement The Catholic community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, united in the love of God, comes together to worship the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to provide for the spiritual growth of each member, to minister to one another’s needs, to be servants and neighbors to all, to strengthen and share faith, to experience the richness of Jesus Christ. The Catholic community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, aware of its call to be the good news, accomplishes its mission through worship, education, service and personal example.

May God Bless and keep safe in his care our Service Men and Women whose lives are in danger every day. They heroically serve to defend and maintain freedom around the world as well as at home. Our prayer for them reflects our great admiration and love for them. May God bless them, watch over them, and protect them always.

Prayer for Vocations “Lord of the harvest, BLESS young people with the gift of courage to respond to your call. Open their hearts to great ideals, to great things. INSPIRE all of your disciples to mutual love and giving – for vocations blossom in the good soil of faithful people, INSTILL those in religious life, parish ministries, and families with the confidence and grace to invite others to embrace the bold and noble path of a life consecrated to you. UNITE us to Jesus through prayer and sacrament, so that we may cooperate with you in building your reign of mercy and truth, of justice and peace. Amen.” (Pope Francis)

Anna Asks…Why go to Confession to a priest? The Sacrament of Reconciliation gives us the assurance that our sins are forgiven if we are sorry and try to do better in the future. Where else in life can we get this assurance — not from a psychiatrist, not from a counselor, not from a friend, but only from God through the ministry of the priest-confessor.It’s natural to be concerned about pouring out one’s soul to another human, especially one we may not know. That’s what we do when we go to confession. It helps, though, to remember that we really pour our soul out to God. The priest is God’s representative and witness. The priest is the face of God’s mercy and the community’s representative when he forgives a person’s sin. He is a mediator of God’s mercy and forgiveness. In his wisdom, Jesus gave power to forgive sins to the Apostles, his first priests, when se said, “whose sins you forgive are forgiven. Whose sins you hold bound, are held bound.” This sacrament of mercy assures broken, sinful humanity that God loves us and forgives us if we are sorry.

Father Dan Mulhauser, SJ will celebrate his 93 rd birthday on Tuesday, January 28th. He is celebrating the 5pm Mass this weekend. We will have a little cake to celebrate afterwards. If you would like to leave a card for Fr. Mulhauser in the basket, we will make sure they are forwarded to him. Let us continue to thank God for the good health and loving heart he has blessed Fr. Dan with…and pray for many more healthy years!

Word of God Sunday St. Luke writes in his account of Jesus encountering the disciples on the road to Emmaus, “Then He

opened their minds to understand the scriptures.” Pope Francis has designated that the third Sunday of Ordinary Time (today) will now become the Word of God Sunday. By naming a special Sunday proclaiming the unbreakable bond between Sacred Scripture and the Eucharist the Holy Father reminds us that it is essential to make the Scriptures part of our everyday lives and that it is through the word of God that we continually encounter Father, Son and Holy Spirit who call us to live in love.

All at Chadwick Residence wish to express our heart felt thank you for the items provided to all thirty-five women in the

Program. Also, our thank you for the age appropriate toys for all the children in the Program. Your generosity and thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated at a time when it is needed the most. Sincerely, Chadwick Residence Board of Directors. Open House for Pre-K through 6th Grade will take place at Holy Cross School on Tuesday, February 4th from 6:30-7:00PM.

The school is located at 4200 E Genesee Street, Dewitt, NY Our Daily bRead. The kiosk has been restocked and is loaded! You will find some new resources from CareNotes. These

little pamphlets provide a powerhouse of inspiration. You can find insights on topics like handling grief, loss, pain, and suffering, praying through difficult times, parenting, family life, and finding God at work in all things. These new pamphlets are meant to BE READ. They are free of charge and are meant to be used for you and the people you know would benefit from them. Please take them and pass them on. This is a great way to be the comforting hands of our Lord who promised to be with us always.

Cold and Flu Concerns As we gather together for worship, we would like to remind you of a few common sense health

precautions that you can take at Mass. At the sign of peace, you may choose to simply nod or wave as a greeting. Do not be offended if someone does not shake your hand, it is probably in your best interest. At communion, the Precious Blood will continue to be offered. You may choose not to receive from the cup, but be assured that you are receiving Jesus Christ, whole and entire, body, blood, soul, and divinity when you receive either the Precious Blood or the Sacred Host. Thank you for exercising prudence and patience and please keep in your prayers those who are afflicted by the flu..

First Holy Communion A meeting to pray, prepare, and discuss First Communion will take place on Monday, February 3rd

at 6:00pm in the worship area, starting with a teaching Mass by Fr. O’Connor. First Communion dates are Saturday, May 2nd at the 5:00 pm Mass, Sunday, May 3rd at the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses. The forms for requesting Mass times will be distributed at this meeting.

Vocation Reflection: It was just another ordinary day at work for Peter, Andrew, James and John until Jesus stopped by. Have

thoughts of a religious vocation interrupted your daily routine at work or school? Jesus may be calling you to serve him in an extraordinary way. For more information on vocations to the priesthood and religious life, visit: www.vocations-syracuse.org

The Word of God & Mother Seton “The Word of God is a seed. But are you the good soil which the Gospel speaks of?...Let your soul answer. It is to your soul

that I direct these questions.”—St. Elizabeth Ann Seton It seems appropriate that as Pope Francis has dedicated the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time to the “celebration, study, and dissemination of the Word of God,” placed before us (twice) in the readings today is a verse that is so familiar to us: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” (Isa. 9, Mt. 4) Is not the very Word of God the light to our darkness? Whenever we find ourselves in a period of darkness, we can always turn to God’s Word to light our way. As Mother Seton reminds us, our lives produce fruit when we welcome the Word of God to be sown in our hearts. With the Lord as our light and salvation (Ps 27), we will never stop growing.

A Prayer Chain is in place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Serving on the Prayer Chain is a way for good people to serve God and

to bring blessings to others who will be grateful for the prayers of Prayer Chain Members. If prayers for self or for others are needed and desired, please call the Parish Office at 652-4300 and your prayer requests will be forwarded to Angie Peterson.

Flowers On The Altar each week can be dedicated to parishioners deceased or living family member. Flowers may be

arranged for by calling Rose Bud Florist at 315-474-0613.
