157+173 designers is a design studio run by Babis Papanikolaou and Christina Tsirangelou, settled in Thessaloniki since 2009.

157+173 designers design and manufacture products, of high aesthetic and quality and they constantly aim to experiment with a variety of forms, materials and construction solutions. Ideas are tested, re-designed and therefore developed into real objects, by using the local light industry, as means of production, while the items are treated with the care of a handmade object during montaging. Their products are seen as simple and useful, yet designed with a smart way, to be compatible with a contemporary view, and be accessible to the modern era public. These are, both mass produced -upon order- objects, as well as limited or special one-off copies.

They mainly participate with their work, in commercial and promotional design events, both in Greece and around Europe. Along with product design, they also take part in exhibitions, with artistic work and installations. They also intend in running design related workshops, as well as taking part in architectural and product design competitions.

Their work, has been presented so far, through a long catalogue of national and international newspapers, magazines and design issues, as well as in educational institutes.

The specificity of the first series, Line 01_2010, is the re-synthesis of -usually unidentified- objects’ forms, along with originally designed objects, through the two dimensional display logic.

The bare construction materials, wood and metal, deliberately betray their origins, as a key part of the products’ aesthetic quality. Objects are made off simple materials and creative design, to derive a fresh disposal.

2d* products consist of wooden lights and useful household items, such as doorstops and serving trays. They are influenced by a surrealistic scene of the «modern times» movie, by Charlie Chaplin, where by a machine error, items are compressed by the baler, thus creating two-dimensional forms of objects.Through this humorous approach, the 2d* products are designed in a way that where its basic form looks two-dimensional, while in the back-where necessary- the operational structure of objects is visible.

Concrete* products, consist of concrete lights, which can be also used as pencil boxes.Concrete is used as forming material, of small scale objects of the series, thus it stops to remind the busy urban landscape aesthetic, and gets a new dimension.

2D lights:06.001.01 moonlight on a board

Plywood floor lamp with engraved and perforated designs. Includes 6 grey/dark grey metallic lamp sockets with a porcelain rim. Black cable and intermediate hand/floor switch. “Moonlight on a Board” is a composition of stars and a moon. The moon is rotatable round a cam point and thus can change-positions. All pre specified joints and parts are metallic and appropriately painted.

No lamps included. (220V / E27 incandescent lamps 3x40W max & E-14 3x40W max). Reflector lamps suggested.

Ceiling lamp, metallic frame, plywood with perforated design. Designed to be attached near a wall, so that the wall will work as a reflector. Cat shaped Mdf door-stop with engraving on the surface. Available in 2 designs of differing colors, matte white and matte black. The back side is natural color. A wedge screwed to the back side of the figure makes the door stop.

Plywood or Mdf hangers, usable or decorative. Available in 2 sets of 4 hangers of different designs. Set 1 hangers are made of plywood in natural wood color. Set 2 hangers are made of Mdf, three of them are natural wood color, while the fourth one is grey.
