Students should come to school in their normal uniform with their jumper. Thank you for all your support in a busy term, I hope you have a restful and enjoyable Christmas break. Kind regards Elizabeth Robinson Year 9 Road Safety Roadshow On Tuesday, 15 th November 2016 our Year 9 students were fortunate to watch a performance by professional actors and actresses from the Tiny Giants Theatre Company who came in to present a play which was based on a true story. As much as the acting and the play were entertaining, the story was about a girl who, through not wearing a seatbelt on the way to school one morning, ended up with life changing injuries. The injuries were caused by her hitting the windscreen and cutting her face very badly. The actors and actresses gave a question and answer session at the end and Year 9 were very thoughtful with their questions. It is a subject that is important and our students have heard all of the consequences for not wearing seatbelts in the car. Mr Porter, Assistant Headteacher KS3 Drugs Awareness All of our Key Stage 3 students were very lucky on Monday, 21 st November as Georgia Box came in to perform to Years 7, 8 and 9 and give a message about drugs, alcohol and smoking. Georgia Box is becoming a local and national star and has had an EP get to number 3 in the charts, only beaten by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. Georgia sang six of her songs and was helped by some very talented Year 7, 8 and 9 singers for her cover of Justin Bieber’s ‘Love yourself’. The message from Georgia was about drugs and how individuals have to be strong when put under peer pressure to do something that they do not want to do. Georgia told of a story about when she was put under pressure to smoke and was strong enough to say no. It was a fantastic assembly with a strong message on a serious subject. Tabor Alumni Visit 6th Form On Friday 2nd December Nathan Goodey and Matt Mayes, two former Tabor students, ran an inspirational session on the opportunities available after leaving sixth form. The session looked at what motivated the students to do well and then explained a range of pathways available including university courses, diplomas and work based training. The session was interactive and got the students thinking about potential courses and careers they may partake in once they leave the sixth form. This is part of a number of lectures and seminars being led by Tabor alumni. In the New Year the sixth form are being visited by a number of ex-students who are following careers including Business, Science and Politics as well as a former student who is currently reading Geography at Cambridge University. Mr Jakens, Assistant Headteacher Netball News

The Year 7 girls took part in their first Netball tournament of the year finishing as well-

deserved runners up.

The Tabor girls really put their stamp on the tournament, winning all of their group

games and being the top goal scoring team with over 45 goals. There were some

exceptional performances and a great team moral throughout every game. In the semi-

final the girls put on a great performance winning 5-1 against HRS B team. In the final

we were faced with HRS A team (who we had previously beaten 9-4), the game was a

real nail biter with a goal being scored at each end. As both teams pushed to score the

winning goal it was HRS who managed to take the lead just before the final whistle was

blown. The girls were exceptional throughout and were a real credit to the school.

Year 9 Break Rugby Records On Tuesday 29th November our Year 9 Rugby team played HRS in the under 14 Essex County Cup. The game was our first home match of the season and the boys certainly took advantage with Harry opening the scoring after less than two minutes. Within the next 10 minutes Harry, Joe and Callum went over for Tabor and by half time the score was 49-0. The rout continued after half time with Jack and Josh scoring excellent tries and Harry scoring his 7th try of the game making the final score a massive 84-0. The team have now played five schools this season and remain unbeaten. The boys train every week and consistently show dedication and enthusiasm. They are also incredibly lucky to have expert coaching from Nigel of Braintree Rugby Club who has worked closely with the team for the last three years. Well done boys. Mr Jakens, PE Dept Tabor Key Stage 4 Football Moves into the Knockout Stages The Year 10s and 11s both finished second in their group behind Honywood, and were therefore both drawn away in the semi-finals against the Group B winners, which happened to be Hedingham for each year group. Both games were competitive and there was some quality football on show throughout each match. Year 10 Boys NWESSA District Cup Football Semi-Final - Hedingham 3-8 Tabor Academy (Tabor goals- Jack x3; Dan; Harry; Harrison; Josh; Jamie) The Tabor Year 10s came up against Hedingham who had won all of their group matches, and were therefore bound to be feeling confident in the semi-final. Tabor had other ideas, and illustrated a first half blitz of goals in which Dan and Jack put Tabor into a swift 2-0 lead. This was followed up with a penalty from Harry to send Tabor 3-0 ahead before Harrison scored with an excellent finish to put Tabor 4-0 ahead. Hedingham responded with a

goal before half time, and then reduced the deficit to 4-2. The Tabor boys could have become slightly nervous by the comeback however they went up the other end and Jack scored his second goal of the game. Hedingham came back at Tabor once again to bring them within two goals, however Tabor finished the stronger as Josh scored with a long range strike, Jamie struck a well taken goal and Jack claimed a hat trick with some trickery before finishing well in the final few minutes. Tabor finished the game as 8-3 winners and will now head into the North West Essex Year 10 District Football Final against Honywood which is set to be played in January. A huge congratulations to the Year 10 boys and best of luck in the final. Year 10 Team (Oliver; George; Sam; Jake; Dan; Jamie; Jack; Josh J; Harrison; Harry; Seb; Josh H; Zach) Year 11 Boys NWESSA District Cup Football Semi-Final - Hedingham 1-3 Tabor Academy (Tabor goals- Jacob; James; George) The Tabor year 11s were looking to make the final of the District Cup football competition for the 4th year running, however they were pitted against a Hedingham team who had knocked out the two-time reigning champions Notley in the group stages, so were certainly in for a tough game in order to make it through this time around. Both teams showed plenty of attacking intent early on, and it was Hedingham who took the lead with a well taken goal from the right side of the penalty area. Tabor responded really well, and began to dominate possession and territory. An equaliser came along from Tabor as the ball ricocheted around in the Hedingham

penalty area, before Jacob pounced to stab the ball into the net. The game remained evenly poised at 1-1 for the rest of the first half. The second half saw both teams have spells of pressure, but it was Tabor who were more clinical as the game progressed. Bailey held the ball well before releasing Brooklyn down the left wing. A low ball was delivered and super-sub James slotted a well taken near post finish to send Tabor 2-1 ahead. The boys remained in control for the rest of the game and were awarded a penalty late on in the game, which George dispatched comfortably, and gave

Tabor a 3-1 victory as well as another final placing in the competition, where they will also come up against Honywood in mid to late January. Year 11 Team (Ryan; Zach; Joel; Sam; Charlie; James; Cade; Jacob; Brooklyn; George; Bailey; Shaye) Both teams have done brilliantly this term, and fully deserve their place in the District Cup finals. While both teams are playing Honywood, who are currently undefeated in both year groups, the Tabor boys have an excellent chance of victory. Their fortunes will be revealed in the spring term. Well done and good luck for the finals boys! Mr Welton and the PE Depart. Reminders

Year 10 students who require a maths revision guide should make a request via their maths teachers please.
