Negative Form

To make,

• a negative sentence in simple past

tense,

• use did not + Verb 1.

Example:

1. We did not get much profit this

year.

2. The police did not suspect him.

Question Form

To make,

• a question in simple past tense,

• use did + Subject + Verb 1.

Example:

1. Did we get much profit this

year ?

• Yes, we did.

• No we didn’t.

2. Did the police suspect him ?

• Yes, they did.

• No they didn’t.
