Campus News2013 Bus/Rail PassesThe Ministry of Transport requires all students going into Year 3 & Year 7 in 2013 to reapply for their bus or train pass. An application form can be collected from the school office and needs to be returned ASAP. Failure to complete a new application may mean your child will be ineligible for free travel in 2013. Students in other years who currently hold a free travel pass will be automatically reissued with a new one next year.
De-registering StudentsIf your child is leaving at the end of this year or at any time during the year, a term’s notice is required to avoid a financial penalty. Advise the school of your child’s withdrawal by writing or emailing Mr Bennetts outlining the date that your child is leaving and the reasons - [email protected] If you wish to discuss any issue that may assist your child staying at school, please arrange an interview with Mr Bennetts.
Withdrawal From SchoolIf you withdraw children during the school year please be aware that class and elective charges are not refunded pro rata, but are dependent on whether the charges included have been incurred. Some charges are flat charges regardless of whether the child is at the school for 1 week or the full year.

PathfindersLast Saturday evening everyone had a great time at our End of Year Activity Night at Erina Ice World after a dinner of pizza at the school. Thank you to everyone who added to the fun of this event. The next event on our Club calendar and the finale for the year is our INVESTITURE PROGRAM on Saturday morning, 24 November in the school hall. We would ask that all Pathfinders arrive by 10.30am and assemble behind the school library wearing their Full Dress Uniform. Our annual FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY, the SAN Carols by Candlelight is on Sunday, 9 December. Again we will be looking for volunteers to assist us on this day. If you
are able to assist in the morning/early afternoon with food and stall preparation or alternatively, during the late afternoon/evening with food sales and pack up please let Leanne know as soon as possible. Due to the nature of this event it is not suitable for our younger Pathfinders to assist with. This is our main fundraising event for the year and monies raised will assist the Club in funding future equipment purchases and subsidising major Club events.Should you require information please contact Leanne West, Club Secretary on 0411 061731 or email [email protected]

RSPCA Bake SaleMonday, 26 November, 2012 – lunch time (11am)Help wanted!Year 6 are doing some charity work for the RSPCA, holding a bake sale to raise Christmas proceeds for animals needing extra care this Christmas.Unfortunately many pets are neglected over the holidays, and abandoned as unwanted Christmas gifts.Year 6 need the school community to support them in their effort on the day by bringing in gold coins to purchase treats at the RSPCA bake sale.Any volunteers who can help with managing the stall or contributing baked goods to sell on the day would be most welcome. Muffins, chocolate crackles and other yum treats would be good. Please email Mr Cooper at 6C on [email protected] if you can help.
Reporting incidents to the duty teachersAs this year draws to a close we are noticing a few more incidents happening in school time being reported back to staff by parents. Can you please remind your child that it is really important for them or a friend to tell a duty teacher if they have had an accident or an incident in school. This means that we can log any first aid accidents and inform parents if this is needed. Also if there has been an issue between students it can be dealt with immediately, as we have found this more effective than dealing with it a day later when events become a bit more blurred. At CCAS we strive to make school a safe and happy place for your child, we thank you for your cooperation and support.
Year 5 CraftWe are needing some “Old man’s beard” plant for our Calico Angel craft. We use this for the hair of the angel. If anyone has some of this growing in the garden, we would love some. Please contact year 5 teachers if you are able to help.
Year 5 International DayWednesday, 21 November is our Year 5 International Lunch day. Wendy Van Der Veer is catering for this. This lunch will give the students the opportunity to try foods they may not have tried before from around the world. They will not need to bring lunch on this day. If you make an international food and would like to make it for the day, Wendy would love to hear from you. She is also looking for helpers to help serve the food. Her phone number is 0417 855 568.

Seasons for GrowthLearning to live with change and lossChange and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At CCAS we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering a very successful education program called Seasons For Growth in Term 2, 2013. This program is facilitated in small groups and is based on research, which highlights the importance of social support and the need to practice new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.Information about the program schedule will be provided in the school newsletters early next year. We will then provide more details about the Seasons For Growth program to families upon your request. At that time, if you think your son or daughter would benefit from Seasons For Growth we would encourage you to talk to him/her about participating in the program.CCAS is pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.
Primary SportSeren BurrowsSeren Burrows has been competing at top levels in gymnastics with her attendance at the National Competition this week in Melbourne and then followed by being included in the National Elite training clinic at the Victorian Institute Of Sport for a week. Seren trains for many hours a week to reach this high level of achievement and we would like to recognise her for her commitment to her sport. Well done Seren and congratulations on your success.
Infants SwimmingThe infant swimming carnival is to be held at the Peninsula Leisure Centre next Friday for the Kindy and Year 1 classes. The details have been sent out in the permission notes which you can access online at the school website. We are in need of parent helpers who are able to be in the water with the students as they race. If you are able to help, please see Mr Davis or contact your class teacher.
Graham Brown BasketballThis Friday is the annual Graham Brown Tournament at Niagra Park. The competition on Friday is for years 5 & 6 and we will be sending our boys and girls teams. The bus is leaving school at 8:30am and will be returning at 2:00pm. We wish all the players the best as they represent our school.
Tri-Series CricketThe year 5 & 6 boys team are travelling to Martinsville on the 27 November for the annual Tri-series cricket against Avondale and Macquarie College. Notes will be sent out this week and they need to be returned to Mr Kosmeier ASAP.
Secondary NewsSummer UniformMany students are wearing the correct summer uniform in the High School and they are to be congratulated for this. We thank you as their parents for providing ‘correct’ uniform for your student. There are, however, students who are NOT in correct uniform. We ask that you please familiarise yourself and your child with the correct uniform which is found on our school website - http://www.ccas.nsw.edu.au/_literature_55304/Uniform_Policy It is a condition of enrolment at CCAS that the uniform is worn as stipulated in the uniform policy. There are a few points that we would like to specifically address:• GIRLS are to have their skirt at knee length. This
means that the hem must come to the top of the knee – not well above the knee.
• Girls are not to roll their skirt at the waistband to alter the height of their skirts.
• White ‘sport’ anklet-type are not suitable with their dress uniform. These socks are incorrect and must cover the ankle.
• BOYS are to wear blue socks covering their ankles• Shoes are to be black leather, polishable lace up
shoes. No sport, skate or street shoes. If you are buying NEW school shoes for your child please ensure that they are correct school shoes as in the uniform policy. Incorrect shoes will NOT be acceptable in 2013. Please familiarise yourself with the correct shoes before you purchase new shoes for your child.- Secondary School Administration
Secondary SportAICES Water Polo Gala/TrialsA team of 9 boys went to Homebush to compete against 4 other teams in the AICES Water Polo Gala and Selection Trials. Our team did us proud by ending the day undefeated and winning the competition outright. Jai McNamara (Yr 10) and Lachlan Faulder (Yr 10) were incredible and it was a real privilege to watch them play, lead and encourage our team of Nick Fallon (Yr 10), Nick Rowe (Yr 10), Jarred Brown (Yr 10), Jayden Hodgson (Yr 9) who was remarkable in goals, Ethan Hodgson (Yr 8), Tyler Hodgson (Yr 8) and Matt Day (Yr 8). Nick Rowe, Ethan and Tyler were selected to play the possibles vs probables and despite playing some wonderful water polo throughout the day, the boys were cramping badly in the trials and were not selected into the AICES team this year. Jai and Lachlan were two of the strongest players at the trial (if not the best – a bit biased!) and will be representing AICES at the CIS trials this week.
Congratulations!Well done to Isabella Faulder (Yr 7), who was our only female to attend the AICES Water Polo trials. She was part of a very strong barbarians team on the day and played exceptionally well throughout the day to be included in the possibles vs probables trial. Isabella stood out in the trial and was selected as the only Yr 7 girl to make the U17 AICES Water Polo team to trial for CIS this week.
Graham Brown Basketball GalaOn Monday, 19 November, our Year 9 & 10 girls and boys basketball teams will be competing against local high schools at Niagara Park. First game now begins at 8:30am so we will be leaving school at 7:45am – please be on time and return your permission slip too!
