“International markets
are essential for the
French lactosphère”
200 French dairy farmers gathered for the
General Assembly of the French dairy farmers
association FNPL in the town of Vannes,
located in Morbihan (France), one of the most
important dairy regions in Europe. FNPL
President Thierry Roquefeuil, also chair of
the Copa Cogeca Milk & Dairy group,
welcomed EDA chair Michel Nalet (Lactalis),
Damien Lacombe (Sodiaal President) and the
French Minister of Agriculture, Stéphane
Travert.

contributing to a great extent to the added
value of our sector”, stated EDA chair Michel
Nalet. “The game is a global one: as dairy
cooperatives, we must make an effort to uncork
the potential of the international markets for
our highly appreciated French dairy products”,
added Sodiaal President Damien Lacombe.

March: the agenda
ahead…
Next week’s Council meeting chaired by
Bulgarian minister of Agriculture, Food and
Forestry, Rumen Porodzanov, will discuss EU
Commission's communication on ‘The Future of
Food and Farming’, with a view to finalising the
common direction and drafting the legislative
proposals on the future of CAP post-2020 ➤
see EDA’s press release on ‘The future for
dairy, food and farming’.
Draft Council conclusions gathered by the
Bulgarian presidency of the EU Council were

CLAL.it works on ‘Know your
future dairy customer’
In a meeting in the Grana Padano HQ in Italy,
CLAL founder Angelo Rossi and his team
discussed with EDA vice chair Attilio Zanetti
and EDA secretary general Alexander Anton
about the impact of new lifestyles, new
consumer needs as well as the perception of
‘sustainability’ and retail responsibility.
“In the 2018 edition of our CLAL forum on 5th
October in Bardolino, we will be in a position to
dive into these topics. We already have high
level speakers from many parts of the world, like
India or Egypt, who will share their insights with
us”, highlighted Angelo Rossi.

Unfortunately, children’s overall milk intake is
declining as milk and dairy is often replaced by
potentially nutrient-poor, energy-dense foods
and beverages. Many children and adolescents
do not reach their recommendations for dairy,
which leads to insufficient intakes of essential
nutrients. During childhood and adolescence,
bones need high quality protein and calcium to
grow and develop healthily and to maintain
bone health later in life. Both protein and
calcium are naturally abundant in milk and
dairy products and their inclusion as part of
home and school meals helps children develop
a taste for milk from childhood and adopt
healthy eating habits later in life.
➤ Today, EU Commissioner Phil Hogan
presented the latest report stating that
over 285,000 tonnes of dairy products
were distributed to children for 2016-
17, as part of EU School Milk Scheme
encouraging healthy eating habits!
