WELCOME LETTER | SCCT2019 | 5

DEAR DISTINGUISHED COLLEAGUES AND GUESTS,

The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT), along with the SCCT Annual Scientific

Meeting Program Committee, welcomes you to this year’s Annual Scientific Meeting (SCCT2019). We

are excited to have you join us in Baltimore, Maryland.

This year’s program offers many opportunities to network with distinguished leaders and colleagues

in the field through a wide range of sessions and social events. These include case presentations,

Read with the Experts, debates and sessions on multimodality imaging and CT in structural heart

disease. In addition, there are five networking sessions where you can connect with colleagues from

around the globe, as well as a chance to have fun when SCCT heads to Camden Yards to watch the

Baltimore Orioles play baseball. The Plenary Session will feature the Arthur S. Agatston Awardee

Dr. Roger Blumenthal, as well as Gold Awardees Drs. Jonathon Leipsic and Gilbert Raff. We will also

introduce a new award named in honor of Dr. Stephan Achenbach, who will be its inaugural recipient.

Please plan on attending the Cocktail Reception on Friday, July 12 from 6:15 – 7:45 PM in the Exhibit

Hall — complimentary with SCCT2019 registration. This is a great networking opportunity.

In the Exhibit Hall, you will also find many opportunities to gain hands-on experience while hearing

about the newest products and latest trends from industry experts and representatives. Town Hall

debates and poster and Rapid Fire eposter presentations offer multiple opportunities to learn about

cutting edge research in the field. A special mini-symposium on Social Media will be held on Friday,

July 12 from 3:10 - 4:45 PM and will explore how to leverage social media to become better educated

on and better connected to cardiovascular CT. We encourage you to take advantage of these learning

opportunities.

Thank you for choosing to attend SCCT2019. We hope that your attendance provides you with a

creative and educational exchange of ideas that result in a worthwhile and personally rewarding

experience.

Sincerely,

WELCOME TO BALTIMORE

STATEMENT OF NEED Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause

of death in the United States and imposes

an ever increasing burden on healthcare

systems. Rapidly changing technology and the

criteria for its use continue to be at the forefront

in the diagnosis and treatment of patients

presenting with possible cardiovascular disease.

Due to advancing technologies in cardiovascular

imaging, it is essential that we close the

knowledge, competence, and performance

gaps by bringing together experts in the field to

provide peer-to-peer education and interactive

discussion through case-based, didactic, and

interactive sessions. Cardiologists, radiologists,

technologists, and other clinicians with an

interest in cardiovascular disease will benefit

from the varied formats at SCCT2019. SCCT has

designed the SCCT2019 — 14th Annual Scientific

Meeting to address and narrow the practice gaps

of its members.

OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVESThe SCCT2019 Annual Scientific Meeting is

designed to engage physicians and healthcare

professionals interpreting cardiovascular CT in a

comprehensive exploration of the most current

developments in the field of cardiovascular CT

principles, methodologies, appropriateness

criteria, and clinical practice.

Didactic lectures, image-based case examples,

and research in cardiovascular CT are designed

to increase the competence and performance of

the physician and technologist performing and

interpreting cardiovascular

CT. The Annual Scientific Meeting will focus

on the technological advances, as well as

the potential applications and limitations of

cardiovascular CT.

» Discuss with colleagues the parameters

which result in maximum image quality

while minimizing radiation exposure

during cardiovascular CT.

» Identify potential common image

artifacts which contribute to

inappropriate analysis of cardiovascular

CT scans.

» Determine when an alternative imaging

method would improve the diagnosis of a

specific cardiovascular anomaly.

» Critically evaluate those data which

indicate potential applications of

cardiovascular CT in other patient studies.

» Evaluate the emerging research in

cardiovascular CT to determine its

possible role in changing the

current evidence-based protocols or

stimulating additional research.

» Discuss the appropriate use of

cardiovascular CT with colleagues

and patients.

AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE MEETING, PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE BETTER ABLE TO:

Visit us at the SCCT 14th Annual Scientific Meeting, Booth #311 to see clinical cases of the world’s first detector-based spectral CT and learn how spectral imaging can impact your cardiac program.

Certainty lives in layers

The Philips IQon Elite Spectral CT represents a revolution in CT imaging. As the world’s first and only detector-based spectral technology, IQon is the only dual-energy solution that provides layers of spectral data in every scan, without compromise. IQon allows you to improve imaging outcomes and enhance the patient experience while lowering the cost of care – all through the transformative power of spectral.

There’s always a way to make life better.

You are cordially invited to a symposium at SCCT 2019 for a discussion on:

Innovations to improve cardiacCT clinical quality and accessThe success of a medical technique requires more than its clinical superiority. In the management of coronary artery and structural heart diseases, through the perspective of both MDs and RTs, we look at how dedicated cardiovascular CT scanners, as well as scanners in outpatient and emergency centers, can impact clinical, operational, and financial outcomes.
