    PreventingInjury andDamage

This section provides guidelines for preventing electrical injury and protecting componentsfrom electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.

Preventing Shock ALWAYS power equipment OFF at the Power Switch.Regardless of the type of procedure, set all Power Switches to OFF when servicing thegame, Top Box, or other equipment.

Unplug equipment from the outlet if not handling ESD-sensitive components. Exercise caution when working around electrical equipment.

Preventing ESD ALWAYS wear an ESD wrist strap.Fasten a resistive type (1 or 10 Meg) ESD wrist strap on arm and ensure that it makes goodskin contact, Figure 2 (A). Secure the clip end of the wrist strap to a nearby ground point.Suggested grounds points are: An unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipment enclosure. Any labeled ESD common ground point, Figure 2.

Figure 2 ESD wrist strap (left) and ESD common ground point symbol (right).

Ground equipment when handling ESD-sensitive components. When accessing printed circuit boards (PCBs) or components in direct contact with PCBs,including EPROMs, CompactFlash Cards, and PCB connectors, connect the three-prongequipment line cord to a properly grounded outlet. Then, secure the clip end of the ESDwrist strap to an unpainted or bare exposed metal area of the game cabinet or equipmentenclosure.

Replacing/Repairing AC Line CordIf the AC Line Cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer (WMS), its serviceagent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

    Properly Secure andVent All Equipment

Before performing any service tasks, the game (and Top/Accessory Box, if applicable) mustbe properly secured as described in the Service Manual. All WMS cabinets and associatedequipment (including Top/Accessory Box, controllers, etc.) must be properly installed. WMSUpright (BBU/BB2/BB2e/Blade) games must be mounted to a stand using four bolts, and allstands must be bolted to the floor when placed individually or back-to-back, or secured to awall. WMS Slant (BBS/BBS-W/GameField xD) games must be installed back-to-back, or backagainst a wall. WMS Upright and Slant cabinets require a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm)clearance on both sides and at the rear to allow for proper ventilation. WMS BBxD andGameField xD cabinets may be placed directly side by side, but require a minimum of 6 inches(15 cm) clearance at the rear to allow for proper ventilation. Failure to fully secure and ventgames may cause injury and equipment damage.

Ladder Safety Observe the following guidelines when using a ladder: Read and follow all instructions from the ladder manufacturer, including labels and markings

on the ladder. Avoid electrical hazards. Do not place a ladder on cables or near electrical outlets. Always inspect the ladder prior to using it. If the ladder is damaged, it must be removed from

service and tagged until repaired or discarded. Do not use a self-supporting ladder (for example, a step ladder) as a single ladder or in a

partially closed position. Do not use the top step or rung of a ladder as a step or rung unless it was designed for that

purpose. Always maintain a 3-point (two hands and a foot, or two feet and a hand) contact on the

ladder when climbing. Keep your body near the middle of the step and always face theladder while climbing.

Only use ladders and appropriate accessories (ladder levelers, jacks or hooks) for theirdesigned purposes.

Ladders must be free of any slippery material on the rungs, steps or feet. Use a ladder only on a stable and level surface. Do not place a ladder on boxes, barrels or other unstable bases to obtain additional height. Do not move or shift a ladder while a person or equipment is on the ladder. A ladder placed in any location where it can be displaced by other work activities, and must

be secured to prevent displacement or a barricade must be erected to keep traffic away fromthe ladder.

Be sure that all locks on an extension ladder are properly engaged. Do not exceed the maximum load rating of a ladder. Be aware of the ladders load rating and

of the weight it is supporting, including the weight of any tools or equipment.

    InstallationSequence

Games are installed in the following general sequence:1 The sign vendor installs the overhead display:

a Coordination with WMS Field Service will need to occur to coordinate cabling theoverhead displays.

b Ensures that the overhead display is installed and secured before the media controller3.0 and UPS are placed inside the game stand.

2 WMS Field Service installs all required controllers and hardware into the game stand.3 WMS Field Service configures the controllers:

c WMS Field Service configures the media controller 3.0.d WMS Field Service configures the LAP controller.

    Power Supply

Complete the following steps to install the uninterruptible power supply (20-019570-00-00):1 Open a game stand door.2 Install the UPS in a game stand.3 Connect the UPS into an approved 20A/110 VAC circuit.

    Installing MediaController 3.0

Due to the high thermal output of the media controller, it must be installed in one of fivespecific locations. For details on where to install the media controller, see Information Bulletin16-025621-xx: REI Media Controller Must Be Installed in Approved Location to AvoidOverheating.

Figure 3 Media controller positionedcorrectly (media controller may look different).

ESDBefore performing the following procedure, see Preventing Injury and Damage on page 6for all appropriate safety and ESD precautions.

NOTEThese installation steps are followed facing the front of the cabinet.

CAUTIONInstall the media controller in the proper upright position, with the port for the power switchon the top, Figure 3 (A). Failure to install the media controller in the correct position maycause it to malfunction.
