BAGB Workgroup 1 Land Remediation The development of new products and solutions for the land remediation sector that utilise waste products such as by pass dust / CKD / limestone dust / incinerator ash. CEMEX have a number of solutions either by direct supply from the cement division or blended options from the DSM business, we are now extending our product range to include other waste or by products as part of a test programme . CURRENT ACTIONS • Investigate a solution of a waste blending plant at Doveholes to allow CEMEX to provide a solution for customers by handling selected waste products. •Investigate the possibility of trade marking the IP on CEMEX land remediation products and solutions. •Develop solutions with Hydrock on projects at Llanwern, Ellesmere Port, Coventry STW. •New projects with Deep Soil Mixing Limited – embankment stabilisation. •Engagement with Stabilised Pavements Ltd on recycled materials. •Engagement with Adamregen Ltd on Bypass Dust. •Limestone filler / cement solution for BAM at Hatfield Mines. KEY DATES • Solution provided for London Gateway Project. •Solution provided at Llandarcy Project. •Testing of materials identified within CEMEX by Coventry University by Q3 2014. •Internal technical workshop applications and materials. Q2 2014. ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE •Information provided to CRG on ideas . •CEMEX now have the admixtures adopted in Austria and Ireland in this sector. Biel / Southam laboratories ditto. •List of CEMEX materials /locations/ permits are under review for Via Nova plant in UK. OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES PROJECTS & INITIATIVES Core Team: AS; MN, GM.

1Land RemediationThe development of new products and solutions for the land remediation sector that utilise waste products such as by pass dust / CKD / limestone dust / incinerator ash.CEMEX have a number of solutions either by direct supply from the cement division or blended options from the DSM business, we are now extending our product range to include other waste or by products as part of a test programme . CURRENT ACTIONS Investigate a solution of a waste blending plant at Doveholes to allow CEMEX to provide a solution for customers by handling selected waste products. Investigate the possibility of trade marking the IP on CEMEX land remediation products and solutions.Develop solutions with Hydrock on projects at Llanwern, Ellesmere Port, Coventry STW.New projects with Deep Soil Mixing Limited embankment stabilisation.Engagement with Stabilised Pavements Ltd on recycled materials.Engagement with Adamregen Ltd on Bypass Dust.Limestone filler / cement solution for BAM at Hatfield Mines.

KEY DATES Solution provided for London Gateway Project.Solution provided at Llandarcy Project.Testing of materials identified within CEMEX by Coventry University by Q3 2014.Internal technical workshop applications and materials. Q2 2014.

ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATEInformation provided to CRG on ideas .CEMEX now have the admixtures adopted in Austria and Ireland in this sector. Biel / Southam laboratories ditto.List of CEMEX materials /locations/ permits are under review for Via Nova plant in UK.

OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVESPROJECTS & INITIATIVESCore Team: AS; MN, GM.BAGB Workgroup2Land RemediationStrategy / Market Assumptions / Partner Opportunities. Objective to offer a shop for Land Remediation solutions on materials and logisticsObjectives Utilise CEMEX waste materials in the land remediation market.Analysis the size of the market.Offer a shop based manufacturing / blending facility for clients , developers or contractors.Understand the materials solution through testing of cementitious materials, waste materials and admixtures via Coventry University.Investigate logistics solutions to the market and site mixing plants.Investigate the need for a specialist third party consultant , contractor or admixture supplier for CEMEX to enter the market. Can we offer specialist analysis services to the market through this partnership.

Market Assumptions.MPA Statistics .......... 160,000 tonnes per year.Crossrail Compensation Grouts....200,000 tonnes.Piling Mat replacements ..............tba.Embankment stabilisation ...........tba..

Partner Opportunities.Normet for specialised admixtures.Hydrock Consultants / Contractors.Keltbray Land Remediation .BAM Ritches Geotechnical Team.Deep Soil Mixing Ltd ..... Embankment stabilisation.

OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVESPROJECTS & INITIATIVESCore Team: AS; MN, GM.BAGB WorkgroupChemicals to improve soil stabilization and performance are around since the 1990s. The new generation of soil stabilizers allow improved properties, specially in clay and organic soils4/22/2014Current situation:Soil with sand components: cement stabilizationSoils with clay components: lime stabilization without durability to flooding conditions.Organic Soil, sludge or waste soils: lime and cement are not the options.

The new generation of soil stabilizer is creating additional properties, specially in clay and organic soils:Flood Durability(impermeable), in clay soil, 4 times more than with limeHigh strength (high bearing capability)Easy to compact with roller; less layersBetter surfaceCompetitive cost

50% of soils in rural and interstates roads are clays, organic, sludge or waste soils, where new generation of soil stabilizers opens opportunity to be competitive for concrete pavement of interstate or secondary roads4/22/2014Interstate Roads strength requirement for sub-grades of organic and clays soil:Asphalt Pavement: 70 80%, the pavement is flexible, can tolerate the fail of bad sub-grades.Concrete Pavement: more than 80%, the pavement is rigid without tolerance for any fail of bad sub-grades.In organic and clay soils, cement is not competitive and not an option

Soil Stabilizer Reduction of base or sub-bases for concrete pavement with soil stabilizer may improve their competitiveness

ConcreteBase or SubbaseSub-gradeRural / unpaved roadsWe have been exploring this new generation of chemical stabilizers for dust reduction with a development of CEMEX Admixtures4/22/2014Area of applicationPavementSport courtsDust suppressionAustria- Bad Fischau- Wiener Neustadt Aggregates plantArea tot: 20000-25000 m2 (3 Km of roads)Material: limestone soil Technology: dust suppression by chemical admixture (CX ISODUST 71- Cemex technology)
