Later in the evening the Trustees met with the College Board. They were immensely appreciative of the work being done in the College across all key indicators; mission, vision and values, excellent learning outcomes, the rich and varied co-curricular program, again marked by excellence, the commitment of all staff, alongside the outstanding financial management of the College. With each visit the Trustees are impressed by the positive energy in the College, the obvious happiness in the faces of the students they meet and the spirituality evident throughout the College. This is a tangible presence which many visitors feel as they walk through the front gates. The Trustees were also pleased to see the progress of the new Arts Precinct, to hear of the plans for the renovation of A block and the College Master Plan. We have had another rich and fulfilling term culminating in the inspiring Arts Festival held on the first Friday of spring. What a wonderful night this was with the displays and performances of all students who study subjects across the Arts Curriculum; Visual Art, Music, Dance and Drama. This was our second Arts Festival and all our expectations and more were realised. The photos overleaf capture a sense of this evening. In addition to my thanks to all staff who are responsible for this event, I sincerely thank the Parents and Friends lead by the President Mrs Mary Brown, for the array of food stalls that added to the festive occasion.

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students

On Monday the College hosted a stewardship visit from the Trustees of Mary Aikenhead Ministries as part of their commitment to the ministries for which they are responsible. At their morning meeting they were joined by the Reverend Archbishop Mark Coleridge. This was his first visit to the College, in his words “to this fine school”. It was a beautiful spring day with the azaleas in full bloom and the setting and ambience of the College were much appreciated by our southern visitors as we enjoyed our lunch with the College Leadership Team on the sweeping Grantuly verandah.

In July I commented that we commence Term 3 in the middle of winter and we end with a blaze of spring. We have worked hard, staff, students and parents and we are truly ready for a restful and rejuvenating spring holiday.

SincerelyAlison Terrey

Important News

From the Mathematics Department

Please be aware that new textbooks are required in all Maths courses from Yr 7-10. The current textbooks have been in circulation for four years which coincided with the initial implementation of the Australian Curriculum in Mathematics.

Furthermore, the electronic PDF code can only be activated four times. Hence, we will be using the second edition in 2016 which includes a hard copy of the textbook, a PDF version with a code that can be activated four times, and interactive worksheets to supplement practice of skills.

The booklist clearly indicates the second edition requirement for textbooks in Year 8 -10 and new workbooks for Year 7. We have managed to obtain a very good deal with ABACUS where the calculators required for Year 7-12 can be purchased. The details will be shown on the booklist and in Parent Lounge.

Onsite parking in the Grantuly grounds, undercover in the Ionian Centre and within the campus near the Sophia Centre is only permitted for staff.

Please also refrain from parking across driveways, adhere to the 40 km speed limit around the side streets and also be considerate of those living around the College, when dropping and picking up students.

Please do not drop off or pick up students within the College grounds.

Ministry Care

Mt St Michael’s Staff and students takes great pride in the Mission and Values of the College and as an extension of this, we are continuing with our Ministry Care Programme this year.

We are aware that there are students and families within our community who are at risk due to a variety of factors. So, through the various networks of the Parents & Friends Association, the College Foundation, the Past Pupils, the Pastoral Programme at the College and simply by word of mouth, we hope to become aware of these situations and to respond on a case by case basis.

The College acknowledges that just by being here we are carrying on the mission and vision of the Foundress of the Sisters of Charity, Mary Aikenhead. The poor, the vulnerable, the marginalised in society were always close to the heart of Mary Aikenhead.

During the course of 2014 we responded as a community through preparing meals for families whose difficult circumstances we had been made aware of. We are continuing this over the course of this year.

If you would like to contribute to the Ministry Care Programme and support those who are going through difficult times, please contact Stephen Campion on [email protected]
