PARISH NEWS

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

GOSPEL MEDITATION

The Parish Office will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of

Independence Day.

We will resume regular business hours on Monday, July 6.

From the staff at St. Anne’s, we want to wish everyone a safe and blessed

Independence Day!

When we were baptized, we were baptized into Christ’s death. Take a moment to ponder these profound words: We were baptized into death. In every sense of the word, we are asked to die. This is not just about our final death but about daily deaths due to inconvenience, discomfort, pain, loss, or others’ needs. This is an incredible epiphany given the way we very often approach our lives. We do everything to avoid death, let alone encounter it! Many avoid pain, discomfort, inconvenience, uneasiness, change, interference, and suffering of any kind. We put a lot of energy into finding the easiest and least inconvenient way through many things. Even holding the door open for a stranger or saying hello to someone in the store can be major undertakings. We are called to die. One of the biggest wake-up calls we can have is realizing that life is not about us! There are millions of other people sharing life on this planet with whom we have a relationship. Do our lives celebrate those relationships? The most distracting question we can ask is, “What do I want to do?” The more focused, faith-filled question is, “What do I need to do?” What we need to do may not be what we want to do. However, asking this question more frequently will teach us how to more purposefully and intentionally live so we can be a life giving vessel for others. When we learn to live more sacrificially, to put the needs of others before our own, and to not always seek our own self-interest, we become aware of what baptism into Christ’s death is really all about. These are the roots of virtue and the seedbed for justice, tolerance, solidarity, love, and peace. Learning how to accept all the “small deaths” and sacrifices life calls us to teaches us how to approach our final death. All deaths ask us to empty ourselves into something or someone else. Whether we empty ourselves into the heart and soul of another human being or empty ourselves into God at the moment of our final death, new life is always received and nurtured. A heart that exclusively seeks its own interest is a heart that is closed to love. A heart that pours itself out to others and is content with being emptied is a heart that has been touched by and open to mercy. It is a heart that overflows with joy.

“Let us not love by words alone, but let us love until it hurts…

Love does not measure; it just gives.” ~Saint Teresa of Calcutta

DIRECTIVE FROM BISHOP KAGAN

The Memorare Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother, to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Bishop Kagan has asked us to pray the Memorare during this time, asking for our Blessed Mother to intercede for us.

Further modifications of COVID-19 restrictions for Liturgical, Sacramental, and Parish life for all parishes in the Diocese of Bismarck.

Beginning with the weekend of June 20-21, 2020 the following will be in effect: Holy Communion may be received either in the hand or

on the tongue but only a priest, deacon or instituted acolyte may distribute Holy Communion. They are to have readily at hand sanitizer should a communicant’s tongue touch their fingers and they are to use it before distributing Holy Communion to the next person. All receiving Holy communion are to maintain social distancing as much as possible while in line.

Eucharistic Adoration can be resumed and may be held in

the body of the Church or in an Adoration Chapel if one is available. However, if in a separate chapel, no more than 5 persons may be present at any time and they are to maintain social distancing. The Diocesan regulation must be kept that at least 2 persons must be present at all times when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed.

Pastors may have one Mass Server but that is the Pastor’s

decision. However, if the Mass Server is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian is to give the Pastor written permission for the child to serve. Social distancing is to be maintained as much as possible.

Weddings may now have up to 3 men and women to

assist and accompany the Bride and Groom and other guests may attend. Social distancing should continue to be maintained as far as possible and no congregating inside the Church before or after the Ceremony.

Funerals may now have a Vigil Service or Visitation in the

Funeral Home either the day before or the day of the Funeral but not in the Church. No funeral luncheon in the Church after the Funeral Mass. Other guests may attend maintaining social distancing.

Parish meetings may resume at the Pastor’s discretion,

but social distancing is to be maintained in all meetings.

What has not changed: Holy Communion will continue to be distributed only

under the sacred species of the consecrated host. The exchange of the Sign of Peace is still suspended Confessions are to be heard only behind a screen. No change to how the Offertory Collection is taken and no

Offertory procession of the gifts. The dispensation from the Sunday obligation remains in

effect.

“The holy hour in our modern rat race is necessary for authentic

prayer. Our world is one of speed in which intensity of movement is a substitute for lack of purpose; where noise is invoked to drown out the whisperings of conscience; where talk, talk, talk gives the impression that we are doing something when really we are not; where activity

kills self-knowledge won by contemplation…” ~Venerable Fulton Sheen

And You Will Find Rest: What God Does in Prayer by Father Sattler is available for purchase! About a month ago, all registered parishioners were sent a letter with an enclosed booklet featuring the introduction of Father Sattler’s book that has been recently published. His book is available for purchase at the parish office and through Amazon for anyone who is interested. If you would like to stop by the parish office and purchase a copy, you may stop by anytime between 9am and 4:30pm Monday—Friday. The book is

$22, and it comes to $23.50 total with tax. An excerpt from the back cover: “The Dark Night, by St. John of the Cross, and The Interior Castle, by St. Teresa of Avila, are the guides Father Wayne Sattler uses to explore the path of prayer leading to contemplation. On his own path, which eventually led to discerning a call to live as a diocesan hermit, Father Sattler began to more deeply appreciate the sound guidance of these two saints for understanding ‘what God does in prayer.’ For six years, he lived in a one-room cabin on an abandoned farmstead in rural North Dakota. Here, the material on this book was undertaken. Delving deeply into the works of these 16th century Carmelites, Father Sattler leads the reader through the intricate pathways leading to contemplative prayer, which he writes, ‘marks that point in prayer when what is being experienced is no longer merely the activity of man, but the pure activity of God.’ Father Sattler has given numerous retreats and classes on contemplative prayer, and has often been requested to write a book that shares these insights with a wider audience. After returning to active diocesan priesthood in 2013, Father Sattler has pursued the completion of this work, which he hopes will offer clarity to this often-misunderstood subject. Father Sattler today serves as pastor of Saint Anne Catholic Church in Bismarck, North Dakota.” Congratulations to Father Sattler on the publication of his book! God bless you for your good and diligent work over the years to allow the Holy Spirit to bring this to fruition!
