of July. Masses will be at 9:00 a.m.

PASTOR’S POTPOURRI- RISKY BUSINESS

As we celebrate the 4th of July this week, we are reminded of the cost of our freedom and pray in thanksgiving for our forefathers and fore mothers who from the beginning had the courage to do what was necessary for us to be a country ….the land of the free and the home of the brave. May we remember all those in the military now who are around the world protecting us and others to be able to live with freedom. We thank God for our country and pray that we may do our part to live as Americans, with faith in God and each other.

We learn from the first reading that when you do a kindness to someone as did the Shuenemite woman, God will return with a blessing. She offered a place for Elisha to stay and the prophet then said that in another year, she who had been childless would have a son. God is good and gracious. find the wisdom and grace they had hoped for when they said “yes” to Jesus’ call. (Excerpts from American Magazine, July 2, 2017)

When Jesus called the first disciples they probably didn’t under-stand all they were getting into. Hostility was already moving against Jesus and His message…so he tells the disciples if you love anyone more than me you are not worthy of me. So having left family and friends behind, they began preaching and received the same hostility as did Jesus. But he reminds them “whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. It is only in abandoning themselves to the providence of God that the disciples could find the wisdom and grace they had hoped for when they said “yes” to Jesus’ call. (Excerpts from American Magazine, July 2, 2017)

Original Olive Wood Handicrafts from Bethlehem July 15th & 16th.

Nativity Sets – Creches – Rosaries – Statuettes – Christmas Ornaments – Home, Office and Church

Décor. From Bethlehem in the Holy Land, The Bannoura family of Bethlehem Handicrafts imports products from the Christian community of Bethle-hem. They are pleased to share their family story

and trade to all those who will be present after all masses.

As Joseph taught Christ the trade of carpentry in Nazareth, the Bannoura family passed the trade of olive wood artisanship from generation to genera-tion until the present. They take great pride in this distinct and traditional craft, which is one of the

principal sources of income for the small but resilient Christian community.

Electronic Offertory Giving with Faith Direct

This month, we are introducing a new and exciting way for you to support our parish offertory: Faith Direct. Faith Direct enables your family to make your parish contributions through either direct debit to your checking account or through your Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit cards. No more writing checks on the way out the door. Now you can apply the convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings.

For parishioners currently giving electronically, Faith Direct will be replacing our current electronic giving pro-cess. This change will happen automatically and no action is required on your part to continue your existing automatic giving plan and you will receive communication pertaining to your new account with Faith Direct.

With Faith Direct, Saint Jude will gain predictable cash flow that will help us with planning our parish needs and programs. Faith Direct also offers you personalized offertory cards to replace your envelopes for the collection basket.

Of course, enrollment is voluntary, but many parishes and their members around the country have experienced a win-win with Faith Direct. To learn more about the many benefits of contributing to our parish via Faith Direct, please visit www.faithdirect.net. More information will be coming soon – please look for the mailing this month.

God bless you,

Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Kinkel
