Raspor
Raspar (Italian Raspo), a village in Istria, 21 km northeast of Buzet; 3 st (2011). It lies on Ćićarija, at 693 m in absolute height. Church of St. Nicholas of 1814. Farming; sheep. Near the caves (Cave near Raspora), 361 m deep and 1106 m long. - Inhabited since prehistoric times. In Roman times, a strategically important fortress was built there, from which the roads that linked central Istria to the subalpine hinterland were controlled. After the fall of the Roman Empire (476) Raspor was demolished and abandoned, and the fort, which was no longer in operation, was rebuilt by the Byzantine authorities (VI-VIII centuries) and housed a military crew. From the Frankish period Raspor became again a fortified village with a citadel built as a feudal burg, probably around 1000. In written sources it is mentioned from the XIII. when it belonged to the patriarchate of Aquileia, and was ruled by the counts of Gorizia on behalf of the patriarch. God. 1394. Raspor

was pledged to the Venetian Republic and became the seat of the Capitanato di Raspo on the border between the Venetian and Habsburg estates in Istria. From 1402 it was under the permanent rule of Venice, which carried out extensive fortification works on the fort. During the Cambrais League War 1508–11. the fort was looted and partially demolished, so in 1511 the Venetian rector was transferred to Buzet, retaining the title of Rasputor captain until the fall of the Venetian Republic (1797). The remains of the former fort have been preserved to this day.
