Foreword This Malaysian Standard was developed by the Technical Committee on Furniture under the authority of the Industry Standards Committee on Mechanical Engineering. Major modifications in this revision are as follows: a) the title has been changed to “Steel filing cabinets - Specification”; b) addition of new terms and definitions on “carcasses” and “drawer pull” in Clause 3; c) incorporation of new clause on “Materials” in Clause 4; d) addition of new requirements on “Adjustable leveller” and “Anti-tilt or counter weight” in

Clause 7; and e) incorporation of new clause on “Design” in Clause 8 This Malaysian Standard cancels and replaces MS 1316:2002, Specification for steel filing cabinets (First revision). Compliance with a Malaysian Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. For

For undated references, the latest edition of the normative reference (including any amendments) applies. MS 1581 (all parts), Furniture - Storage units MS ISO 898 (all parts), Mechanical properties of fasteners made of carbon steel and alloy steel MS ISO 3574, Cold-reduced carbon steel sheet of commercial and drawing qualities

3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply (see also Figure 1). 3.1 carcasses Body of the cabinet. 3.2 depth A horizontal measurement from front to back of the cabinet. 3.3 drawer pull A handle to pull a drawer out of a chest or other furniture piece. 3.4 filing cabinets of foolscap and A4 size Cabinets designed to hold filed documents of these respective sizes. 3.3 height A vertical measurement from top to bottom of the cabinet.
