We put it together aswe went along. We knewwhat we wanted to do, sowe just tried it. I some-thing didnt work, thatswhen we had to problemsolve, said Chris.

His experience x-ing things on the armhelped. Chris learnedhow to weld rom hisdad, and Chris taughtZach.

An old traveling gunirrigator, sitting in thewoods or close to 20years and once used toirrigate crops, becametheir go-cart rame andront hood. Tey evenused the original tires.An old snowmobile en-gine, ound in a junkyardnear Blackduck, t underthe ve-oot yellow irri-gator hood.

It worked. I justhad to have someonego through the carbure-tor, said Chris, addingwith smile, I really dontknow how to do thatyet.

A gas tank rom ajunkyard car was posi-tioned under the hood,and an old boat seat inthe Meyers attic becamethe go-cart seat, sur-rounded by a roll cagerom an old hayrack.

Our only rule wasit had to have a seatbeltand roll cage, said Geri.

Even the two exhaustpipes, on the ront end othe hood, are used.

It took 20 minutesto saw the exhaust pipes

of an old Dodge, saidChris.A garage door track roma shed on the Meyer armwas used as the chainguard.

Dad said anythingthat we could nd here,we could have. Te restwe had to buy, saidChris.

He spent around$300 or tire tubes, rearaxles, bearings, a battery,a chain and other smallparts, purchased local-ly rom the GreenwaldFarm Center and TullRepair.

Karl smiles whentalking about their do-nation to the project owelding wire, gas andother shop supplies.

they are having un withit, said Karl.Parts that make their

go-cart unique are hornsrom a junkyard vehicleand an old chain romthe irrigator, which theyrolled up and positionedon the ront grill o thego-cart; a grill whichthey welded.

Challenges came upwhen building the go-cart.

With a rear axle, thehardest part was how toget the power to the back

wheels because the mo-tor is in the ront, saidChris.

At times, they stilldeal with issues, like thechain coming of, es-pecially when they aredoing doughnuts in thearmyard, but they putthe chain right back onand of they go.

Tey need to short-en the chain, said Karl.

Built solid and with

mainly used parts, Chrisand Zach said their go-cart turned out betterthan expected.

Its the cheapest ed-ucation they will everget, said Karl.

Zach said there isanother plus to buildingtheir own go-cart.
