EASY LIVING HOMES LLC <3WAY> HUMBOLDT TN 731-784-5033. As Jimmy and I celebrated 35 years of marriage, we worshiped with Harmony Baptist Church Sunday morning. In honor of our commitment to each other we thought it was fitting to worship in the church where we were married. Brother Grover Westover delivered an awesome sermon entitled, “Remember the Rainbow”. The colors of the rainbow remind us of Jesus. The purple-loyalty, blue-Heaven, green-new life, yellow-Light (Jesus), orange-warning, and red-blood of Jesus. Of course the rainbow is a symbol of God’s promise to the world! Aren’t you glad that we serve a “covenant keeping” God? Congratulations to Dr. John and Linda Hayes who are now members of Shaws Chapel Baptist Church. Although we miss them at Zion, they have allowed God to use them where He needs them. Keep up the good work John and Linda! I forgot to congratulate Carol Maness who was recognized last week for going above and beyond her call of duty while performing her job. She was given two awards and one of them was only given to three in the State of Tennessee. Carol works with the Department of Labor and Workforce where she helps displaced workers. However, she does more and her caring spirit paid off. Thanks Carol! I took my fourth- graders to visit the Delta Heritage Center Wednesday and then to Zion Gin to see how cotton is ginned. We were given the royal treatment by Sonia and Janet at the Heritage and by Wayne and Norma at the gin. I am so grateful to all of you because I even learned things that I did not know and I was raised on a farm! Thanks to all of you for sharing with us. Scottie Morris reported 17 men attended the prayer breakfast Thursday morning with Brother Tim McPherson from Poplar Corner leading the devotion. Thanks men for gathering each week to pray for various requests. Jimmy and I traveled to St. Louis Friday where we attended the Cardinals/ Rockies game. We spent the night and went sight seeing Saturday before heading back to Reelfoot Lake to visit. Their arts and crafts event is one of the biggest and best events around. Since we did not have reservations we had to come on home, but we were met by Jason and Justin and their families for a warm welcome home. Happy belated birthday wishes to Trent and Hayleigh Austin who celebrated with a big “shebang” at their Maw- Maw’s home Saturday. We were out of town, but I heard they had a blast with lots of family and friends! Happy birthday wishes to mama (Alice Elrod) who will turn 72 October 8. Best wishes to my sister in law Barbara Elrod who celebrates the same day. I wish you both the best! Please mark your calendars for October! Stew and country store - 23. Fall revival – 24. The South Hatchie Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a fish fry Friday, October 8 beginning at 5 p.m. There will be fish, slaw, white beans and hushpuppies and for those who don’t like fish, chicken will be available. Following church services Sunday, September 26, Jerry and Peggy Lewis, Eugene and Billie Kirkland, Danny and Marcia Watson and Maura and Tyler, Randy and Sue Goodman, Barbara Hayes, Joyce Goodman, Travis and I enjoyed lunch at The Veranda. Following lunch, Peggy Lewis, Sue Goodman, Barbara Hayes, Joyce Goodman and I visited with the residents at Crestview Nursing Home. We especially enjoyed visiting with Jordan and Carol Bruce, Emma Sue Watson and Dianne Hart. After church Sunday, October 3, Margaret Phillips, Krystle and I along with my mother, Olivia Watson visited with my Uncle Prentice Elrod who was hospitalized in Baptist East Hospital. I especially enjoyed visiting with his daughter Lynn Clifton who was here from Pennsylvania. We reminisced about when our grandparents Gustie and Odell Elrod lived on the Alvis Stuart place and we had to take bathes in a washtub and had an outhouse for the bathroom. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see Uncle Prentice’s son, Mike who was here from Illinois since he had already headed back home. Happy birthday wishes to Zane Phillips, Raven Watson, Michael Snyder, Edna Austin, Amber Marbry, Lindsey Martin, Anita Berry, Sarah Cowan, Elaine Cowan, Jeremy Qualls and Stephanie Stuart. A very special birthday wish to Mrs. Enid Powell who celebrates her 93rd birthday Friday, October 7. Prayer requests for Prentice Elrod, Bobby Hayes, Alia Sherron, Samuel Sherron, Barbara Milam, Peggy Lewis, Betty Hayes, Edna Austin, Enid Powell, Kate Jordan, Darlene Rossen, Fletcher Lewis, Joyce Goodman, Dorothy Bruce, Earline Benard, Shirley Morgan, Kirk Bouillion, Carol and Jordan Bruce, Frances Elrod, The Military, The Nation and the Community. Sympathy is extended to the families of Mr. Mike Williams, Mr. John Brooks, Mrs. Virginia Smith, Mrs. Annie Davis and Mrs. Lily Jeter in the loss of their loved one. In closing, our Thought for the Week is by Pat Gamage of Michigan as published in the Upper Room Devotional. “If we ask, God will always light our way.” When you feel you are alone and in the dark–pray. When you seek God through prayer He will light your way to deal with any challenges that come your way. If you have news to share, please call me at 772-1885 after 5 p.m. Until next week God Bless. Thank you to Mrs. Betty Williams for all the lovely magazines. Our patients always enjoy the magazines, especially those with colorful pictures. Thank you to all our volunteers for coming this past week: Christ Temple Ladies, Reverend Charles Bates, First Assembly of God Church Ladies, Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, and Community Temple of the Living Church. Our patients enjoy watching the movie, “The Sons of Katie Elder” recently. The women, as well, as men enjoyed this western movie with fresh popcorn. We would like to welcome Mr. Larry Primrose and Mr. John “Bobby” Davis to our facility and hope they will enjoy their stay with us. Our patients are really enjoying this fall weather. Every day we have several patients sitting outside just enjoying the weather and visiting with everyone as they come and go. Everyone is getting excited about the Senior Olympics. They have been working hard on making items for the table decorations. Great fun! Thought for the week: Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves. We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!” – Humbert Wolfe Crestview News Words cannot express the joy that was felt all throughout morning worship service this week! We celebrated our annual missionary day with Pastor Martin Bowers and the Friendship church family as our special guest during 11 a.m. Worship Service. Their choir was simply awesome and Pastor Bowers was dynamic! Our program sponsor, Laura “Peaches” Snipes was so proud. I must send my condolences out to the family of Mike Williams and Carmen Clark of Detroit, MI. Carmen was the wife of my nephew, the late J.D. Clark. Also Dosha Gaines, the wife of my brother William Gaines of Leesburg, FL and my cousin Flora Anderson of Toledo, OH. My cousin Anna Mae Wilson went to Ohio for those services. Two weekends ago I attended the beautiful wedding ceremony of Demitric Bryant and Maurice Payne on the lawn of College Hill. Their proud parents are Robert T. & Alma Ruth Bryant and Ben & Arlease Payne. It was a beautiful ceremony with an immaculate reception that followed. Demitric was such a gorgeous bride! I want to keep the mother of our church Ossie Bond in prayer. We all call her Mama Ossie whom is probably one of the oldest living people in Haywood County; she is over one hundred years old (103) if no mistake. She is always so vibrant and full of life and loves the Lord. She had a very bad sick spell Sunday morning and is in ICU at Jackson General. Thought for the Week: “Is your gift bigger than you” You wouldn’t give your 5-year-old a 12-gauge shotgun or a big Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Shotguns and motorcycles are great – but they’re for adults. You need maturity to handle them. Giving such gifts to your child would endanger them, and everybody else around them. The gifts just don’t fit the person. Perhaps you’re a talented individual. God’s given you some large gifts like the ability to speak well, or organize things, or create and design. But we sabotage ourselves when our gift becomes bigger than we are. How does this happen? When we begin to lean on the talents God gave us and don’t mature emotionally and spiritually – we ruin our chance to use those talents as God designed them. When our character doesn’t keep up with our talent, we learn to “wing it” through life. We live on the surface but lack real strength underneath. And it shows up when the crisis hits, the storm comes, or we are under pressure. You can’t “wing it” when it comes to character building. The greater the size of your gifts, the more you must dedicate time to developing your character. So, do you live that way? Scripture Of The Day: “O Lord, who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with Integrity.” - Psalm
