Rev. Gregor Gorsic, Pastor (815) 886-4165 ext. 317

My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!

GOD IS SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!! Let me share with you part of a gift given to me on the occasion of my 20th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood of Jesus Christ, as we celebrated it a couple of weeks ago. It goes like this, from page 37,

“A little girl walked to and from school daily. One day, though the weather that morning was okay, by afternoon the winds had whipped up, bringing thunder and lightning. Soon, the thunder was roaring and the lightning flashed like a flaming sword, cutting through the sky. The little girl’s mother was worried and got in her car and drove along the route to her child’s school. As she did, she saw her little girl walking along the sidewalk. At each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up, and smile. The mother pulled up next to her daughter, opened the door, and asked, 'What are you doing, Honey? Why are you stopping and smiling every time there is lightning?' The child answered, 'God keeps taking pictures of me,' the little girl said. 'Don’t you think he wants me to smile?'”

What a great gift! What gift? That little girl’s attitude in the midst of a rain and thunderstorm and seeing lightning in a whole new way, as well as the great gift of humor through “The Second Book of Catholic Jokes,” by Deacon Tom Sheridan.

I want to thank you ALL for your generosity which I received through your numerous and beautiful gifts – from various store and restaurant certificates, from cookies and clothes and candy, from personalized blankets and books both meditative and humorous, from good ol’ hard cash ($2,450.00), and to all the beautiful, beautiful sentiments, well-wishes and CONGRATULATIONS you expressed in such beautiful, profound anniversary cards! THANK YOU ALL!!!!

Priesthood and parish family life is all about giving and receiving. I feel I have received so much here at St. Andrew’s that I would like to donate back to the parish family and add a tiny bit of my own for a total of $2,500.00 to our Foundation for the Future – for our new church! THANK YOU ALL! SALAMAT PO! DZIEKUJE BARDZO I BOG ZAPLAC! MIL GRACIAS PARA TODO! DANKE SCHOEN! HVALA LEPA! MOLTO GRAZIE!!

May God continue to bless us with His abundant love and grace! O Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us — O Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

Our beautiful staff of St. Andrew’s gave me the icon of St. John Vianney, the patron saint of priests, especially parish priests. On the icon pictured to the right are the beautiful words of that great Saint John Vianney: “The eyes of the world see no further than this life, but the eyes of the Christian see deep into eternity.” Let’s ALL keep our eyes focused deep into eternity!!!

100th Anniversary Special Edition DVD: Fatima, A Message of Hope

Multiple copies of this DVD (52 minutes long) are available at the Parish Office for checkout for a week’s time. Call the Office 815-886-4165 ext. 301 to reserve a copy for no more than one week. This is an amazing, excellent, marvelous and brief presentation of the history of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima and what has transpired over these past 100 years.

Contact Governor Bruce Rauner to VETO HB 1785

Springfield lawmakers recently passed HB 1785, a highly controversial proposal that would make it significantly easier for gender-dysphoric persons to obtain falsified birth certificates by changing the sex on their birth certificate, which is both a legal and historical document. In turn, this will have consequences with regard to the relentless cultural assault on physical privacy through the sexual integration of previously sex-segregated spaces like restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms, shelters, semi-private hospital rooms, nursing home rooms, and prisons. Take ACTION:

Please contact Governor Bruce Rauner to encourage him to veto HB 1785 and uphold birth certificates as the historical legal documents they were intended to be. Call his office at (217) 782-0244 and/or (312) 814-2121.

The state of Illinois has no duty or right to make it easier for men and women who wish they were the opposite sex to falsify their birth certificates, nor should Illinois’ public policy affirm deceit. 708-781-9328 For more information and updates, please visit illinoisfamily.org.

Our Lady of Fatima 1917-2017

Fatima Plenary Indulgence

Pope Francis has granted a special Fatima centenary plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, from November 27, 2016 to November 26, 2017, for those who go on pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Fatima, or visit an image of Our Lady of Fatima that is being publicly venerated on the 13th of each month from May to October 2017. Those who cannot travel can fulfill the conditions in front of a small image of Our Lady of Fatima. To obtain the plenary indulgence, the faithful, truly penitent and animated with charity, must ritually fulfill the following conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father. The important thing during this Fatima centennial year is to realize that we are all engaged in a huge spiritual battle, but it is battle that has in many respects already been won – we just have to keep fighting and eventually victory will come!

Vocations Discernment Retreat July 28-30, 2017

This retreat is an excellent opportunity for Catholic men between the ages of 18 and 45 to discern how God is calling them, while participating in the monastic life at St. Procopius Abbey. During the retreat there will be presentations given about the Benedictine monastic life, as well as opportunities for discussions and questions, silent prayer, reading and reflection. Learn more about seeking God in community life according to the Rule of St. Benedict.

Your participation in the CMAA is important. If you have not had a chance to participate in the Catho-lic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) this year, there is still time. A mailing will be arriving in homes shortly. As your pastor, I encourage you to prayerfully reflect on God’s gifts to you and to give a gift to the CMAA. Participation is the key to a successful appeal and a chance for our parish to receive a parish rebate, too. Every gift helps! If you do not receive this mailing and would like to make a gift to the CMAA, please call the Diocese of Joliet Development Office at 815-838-8515. Or, if you wish to make your gift online, please visit www.jolietdioceseappeal.org.

MYTHS AND TRUTHS The following are myths about divorce, annulment, and re-marriage in the Catholic Church. (Please note the word annulment is commonly used jargon, but the proper church term is declaration of nullity.)

Children of divorced or remarried Catholics may not be baptized or receive any other sacrament.

TRUTH

Children of divorce may be baptized and receive any other sacrament providing that the parents of the children intend

to raise their children in the Catholic Faith.

We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.

GRANT ETERNAL REST, LIGHT AND PEACE TO ALL FAITHFUL DEPARTED Please call the parish office by Monday at (815) 886-4165 x301 for the name of your loved one to be placed for 3 weeks on our short term prayer list. Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or

Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s — it doesn’t hurt to say it a few times, either! Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us, too, at the office, (815) 886-4165 ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!

A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION

CATECHUMENATE The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.

BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.

SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT MARRIAGE

Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.

ORDERS Those seeking assistance in discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to call the parish offices.

SACRAMENTS OF HEALING RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation is available each Saturday afternoon, 3:00pm, Wednesday evening, 5:45-6:45pm, through seasonal communal services, and by appointment.

ANOINTING Anointing of the Sick is offered through seasonal services, and always by request. If hospitalized, please immediately seek anointing from the Catholic chaplain.

I would like to have my house blessed. Please contact me to make arrangements.
