A New Position, a New Hire! A note from Fr. Aaron: In 2015, a new position was created and a part-time communication person was added to the parish staff. In 2016, just a few months ago, we hired a new bookkeeper and changed the title from Bookkeeper to Bookkeeper/Communications Secretary. The position changed from part-time to full time and additional responsibilities were added, including social media duties. With the departure of both our Coordinator of Youth and Family Ministries in 2015, and our Music Director this year, I’ve had the opportunity to think through the best way to meet the current and future needs of our parish for both ministries. We were blessed to have good programs and leaders in the music ministry and youth and family ministries. The need going forward is for the parish to hire a dedicated, faithful person that will take what was already well established in both ministries to the next level. After much input, thought and prayer, I determined that just like in the situation with the bookkeeper position, a new position needed to be created. Our parishioners continually share with me the need to grow and keep our youth involved and to develop ways to keep individuals and families engaged in the liturgy. I determined that the best way to create this type of atmosphere was to combine the former two positons into one new position creating continuity, and then to evolve the role and responsibilities. I believe that I have selected a person that will meet our needs, and exceed our expectations. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Jonathan Higgins. He is our new Music Director and Coordinator of Youth Ministry and Religious Education. I have known Jonathan for many years and have witnessed his ability to make the liturgy come alive through his musical talent. He engages and touches all ages. His guidance combined with our gifted music ministry will open the door for all of us to grow in our love and appreciation of the Mass. Along with being music director, Jonathan’s responsibilities will include the coordination and support of the events and activities of our youth ministry, as well as our religious education programs. There will be new opportunities for everyone to enhance and grow their faith and involvement in the parish. Below you can read more about Jonathan’s background, experience, and many gifts. I know you will join me in welcoming Jonathan to our parish family. Next weekend, June 25th and 26th, he will be attending all three Masses where I will personally introduce him. You can extend your own warm welcome following any of the Masses and in the weeks to come. Sincerely,

Fr. Aaron

Jonathan Higgins was born and raised on the east side of Indianapolis in the town of Cumberland. He

attended Our Lady of Lourdes grade school and Scecina Memorial High School. Following his graduation from high school, Jonathan attended the University of Dayton where he graduated in May, 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. He also underwent formation for, and committed to serving as, a Lay Marianist. Additionally, he worked as an Undergraduate Music Minister and served in an interim capacity as the Campus Minister for Liturgical Music. He has also participated in and led many retreats and missions, such as the Homeland Mission Project in Indianapolis, the University of Dayton Summer Appalachia Program, and Confirmation retreats for various parishes.

Jonathan shared that he is blessed to begin work at St. Michael and looks forward to serving a wonderful community!
