The VBA programming also supports the statewide wellness initiative with a featured MCLE presented by Supreme Court of Virginia Justice William Mims on Friday afternoon. Tom Spahn returns with his interactive teaching style to present two hours of ethics, and we will have many substantive law section pro-grams that showcase the VBA’s excellence in education. There is something for everyone. Even non-lawyers!

Our social events offer opportunities to reconnect with old friends and to make new ones, and our Friday night black-tie banquet is always a highlight of the meeting. The 2019 Class of Life Members will be honored for their 40 years of continuous membership and we will recognize some of your nominees for their service to the association and legal community. After the banquet, we invite you and your guests to join us for a late-night libation on the iconic Homestead veranda.

This year, we have a special treat on Saturday evening: a festive summer picnic on the Casino Lawn. To add to the unique character of the event, we’ll add the lively and authentic bluegrass sounds of local band Southern Rail Express. Bring your family and guests to the Saturday evening picnic to enjoy the best venue and music Virginia has to offer.

Lisa and I look forward to visiting with you in the Allegheny Mountains

Best regards,

Richard E. Garriott, Jr.

Fellow Members of The Virginia Bar Association and Guests:

On behalf of the Board of Governors of the VBA, I invite you and your family to join us for the 129th Summer Meeting of The Virginia Bar

Association as we return to The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, July 18-20, 2019. We want this year's event to be a family-friendly meeting. Please join us in sharing the best of the mountains with your loved ones.

The Summer Meeting traditionally explores an aspect of Virginia's history. This year, our 129th Summer Meeting features two programs marking the 400-year journey of African-Americans. The first is Friday’s Legacy Presentation, “Determined: The 400-Year Struggle for Black Equality,” presented by the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, named for the VMHC’s exhibition that opens in June 2019. The second is on Saturday morning as the VBA’s Committee on Special Issues of National & State Importance presents, “Beneath the Law? The Plight of African-Americans Since Jamestown.” Please join us as we recognize and highlight the resilience and cultural contributions of African-Americans in the United States.

President's Welcome
