DESCRIPTION
Project for YAC - Post-Quake Visions competition. Rethink, redesign and proposal for reconstruction of Crevalcore, a medieval village located near Bologna that was hardly struck by the quake that shook the northern part of Italy in 2012.TRANSCRIPT
PROJECTIn Upside Town the quake is an opportunity for Crevalcore's development and modernization. Indeed, the proposal arises from the idea of capsizing of the buildings aim of the action. By overturning those buildings along dierent directions, the town is enriched with new social spaces, green areas and pedestrian walks. The new elements are harmonized with the original urban fabric, ensuring continuity and dialogue with the ancient heritage and memories. For that and to preserve the identity of Crevalcore, the covered walks and the city gates are restored according to the original appearance.
FUNCTIONSIn order to promote, along with the architectural renovation, a renewed social and economic development, inside the re-designed buildings the old functions are reorganized and placed side by side with new ones: widespread laboratories, widespread hotel, diused mall with spaces for temporary shops, and photography museum with a permanent section dedicated to the quake. Details are shown in the map.
PORTICO_covered walksThe preservation of covered walk's continuity and the reiteration of the 'portico' in the intervention, highlights the direction of the decumanus maximus that links the two city gates. The gaps left behind by the quake are filled with volumes that, even preserving the original shape of the most damaged buildings, are tipped over in order to recover soil and chart new courses.
