Todomuta Studio was born in 2011 when Laura and Sergio’s

trajectories converged in a nonviolent collision and

together became something that went beyond each one

of them as individuals. Something that’s almost

impossible to define as, since then, they’ve been in constant

change, a tireless search for new forms and gazes orbiting

around art and design, exploring its frontiers. A

discourse that is recognisable for its singularity, but lacking

in static laws. A sensibility that is conscious of art being

the way. Probably the only one.

Todomuta Studio nace en 2011 cuando las trayectorias de Laura y Sergio confluyeron en un choque no violento y formaran entre ambos algo que iba más allá de cada uno. Algo casi indefinible porque se encuentra desde entonces en constante cambio, una búsqueda incansable de nuevas formas y miradas que orbitan alrededor del diseño y el arte, explorando sus fronteras. Un discurso reconocible por su singularidad, pero sin leyes estáticas. Una sensibilidad que es consciente de que el arte es la vía, probablemente la única.

It could also be said that Todomuta is a design studio;

but this would be an incomplete truth. Because we’d be leaving out

its vital definition, its emotion and the protean capacity of what

makes it unique. Freedom of image and attitude, not subject

to established norms. If creation is to have no limits, neither must

creators. Thus the studio delves into the roots of archaeology,

anthropology and nature to create its own collective imagination: a

unique universe that insists on the same themes but that incorporates

new and varied references.

Podría decirse también que Todomuta es un estudio de diseño; pero sería una verdad incompleta. Porque nos olvidaríamos de su definición vital, de la emoción y de la capacidad proteica que lo identifica. Libertad de imagen y actitud, sin sometimiento a normas instauradas. Si la creación no ha de tener límites, el creador tampoco. De modo que el estudio indaga en las raíces de la arqueología, la antropología y la naturaleza para crear su imaginario particular: un universo propio que insiste en los mismos temas, a la vez que incorpora nuevas y variadas referencias.

But todomuta also admires tradition; it owes it its ancestral

aesthetic features, like the roaring of primeval structures that

hybridize with a futuristic and sophisticated air. The mystery of ambiguity and the fusion of

opposites. As a consequence, this gives way to the creation

of a timeless object, with magic capable of conjuring any imitative

trend in the market. An object conceived to surprise and even

disquiet. An object that awakens in the viewer a desire that goes

beyond a mere act of consumption. The ritual of the unique piece,

furnished with matter and spirit.

Pero Todomuta también admira la tradición; en buena parte a ella le debe sus rasgos de estéticas ancestrales, como el rugido de estructuras primigenias que vienen a hibridarse con un aire futurista y sofisticado. El misterio de la ambigüedad y la fusión de contrarios. En consecuencia, se origina la creación de un objeto atemporal, con una magia capaz de conjurar cualquier tendencia imitativa del mercado. Un objeto concebido para sorprender, e incluso inquietar. Un objeto que despierte en el espectador un deseo más allá del mero acto consumista. El ritual de la pieza única, dotada de materia y espíritu.

When duality is unique, there’s a kind of diverse unity that connects opposites, creating something different, pertaining to both but

absent in their own singularities. This apparent gibberish, relates to the ancient saying that two, united, are more than the sum of their

parts. Our installation makes reference to this dual synthesis, which is dynamic both in process and in end result.

Cuando la dualidad es única, existe una suerte de unidad diversa que acopla los contrarios, creando algo distinto, que pertenece a ambos, pero de lo que carecen ambos tomados solo en su singularidad. Esto que puede parecer un galimatías, alude al hecho antiguo de que dos, unidos, son algo más que dos. Nuestra instalación refiere esa síntesis

dual, que es a la vez dinámica de proceso y resultado.

Art and technical direction of the sculpture that is the central piece of the “House of European History” in

Brussels. A museum designed as a platform to debate Europe and its history. The 25m high aluminium and steel sculpture, located in the building’s atrium and

stretching out to each of its six floors, is the main axis of the exhibition area.

Dirección artística y técnica de la escultura que será la pieza central del “House of European History” en Bruselas. Un museo que pretende ser una plataforma de debate sobre

Europa y su historia. La pieza, de 25 metros de alto construida en aluminio y acero, es eje vertebrador del espacio expositivo

al estar ubicada en el atrio del espacio arquitectónico y recorrer las seis plantas que componen el edificio

With a design that effortlessly unites futuristic reminiscence and antediluvian flavour, Platform One

is the result of conceptual hybridisation and the sum of contrasts. In the manner of a biomechanical creature, its anatomy is arranged around a cold, hard and blue

core-heart-eye, like a piece of space synthetized in the sphere’s perfect geometry. The corporeal representation

of an oracle, possibly not offering definitive answers but inviting us to dream about them. A masculine

or feminine entity? Once more, an ambivalent, even hermaphrodite choice. The anatomy is completed with

the exoskeleton joint of a mechanical animal, protecting, challenging and providing stability whilst at the same

time foretelling movement. Fauna and flora, mixture of genres, flesh and machine.

Con un diseño que une sin esfuerzo la evocación futurista y el sabor antediluviano, Platform One responde al mestizaje

conceptual y a la suma de contrastes. A la manera de una criatura biomecánica, su anatomía se organiza en torno a

un núcleo-corazón-ojo frío, duro y azul, como un trozo de espacio sintetizado en la geometría perfecta de la esfera. La representación corpórea de un oráculo, que quizá no

ofrezca respuestas definitivas pero invita a soñarlas. ¿Ente masculino o femenino? De nuevo la elección ambivalente,

incluso hermafrodita. Completa la anatomía una articulación exoesqueleto de animal mecánico, que protege, desafía y proporciona estabilidad a la vez que augura movimiento.

Fauna y flora, mixtura de géneros, carne y máquina.

The Studio drew inspiration from bone structures interpreted as floral elements, imbued with a heavy

charge of romanticism.
