FELLOWSHIPS REVIEW PANEL AND SELECTION COMMITTEES
The UICC has catalysed a community of over 800 expert international reviewers who contribute their expertise and diligence to ensure peer review is carried out to the highest level whilst taking into account the international cross-cultural nature of the global Fellowships programme.

Prof W. Nicol Keith, PhD
Group Leader, Telomerase Therapeutics
Nicol W. Keith is Professor of Molecular Oncology at the Institute of Cancer Sciences, Glasgow University in the UK. Dr Keith’s research
is focused on the development of novel therapeutics that target cellular senescence and telomerase.
Dr Keith currently leads CRUK’s first innovative consortium grant which led to drug discovery company formation focused on the development of novel
therapeutics that target cellular senescence.
Dr Keith is a member of several national and international scientific committees such as the European Research Council, the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the Italian
Cancer Research Foundation.
Dr Keith is particularly active within the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and chairs both the UICC International Cancer Technology Transfer Fellowships (ICRETT) and
Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International study grants committees. He is also a member of the UICC American Cancer Society international fellowships for beginning investigators
(ACSBI) Grants Committee.

Prof Marie Chow, PhD
Professor, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, (UAMS), Little Rock , USA
Associate Director, Winthrop P Rockefeller Cancer Institute,
Dr. Chow received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut.
The emphasis of Dr Chow’s basic research program has been to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying host-virus interactions during disease pathogenesis and vaccine-mediated host protection. The focus of Dr Chow’s translational research program is the development of a flexible technology platform for bacterial and viral diagnostic assays suitable for point-of-care use and low resource environments.
As Chair the UICC American Cancer Society international fellowships for beginning investigators (ACSBI) Grants Committee, Dr Marie Chow is strongly committed to the development of future leaders in cancer research, particularly in low/middle income countries.
Dr Joe Harford, PhD

Dr. Joe Harford has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and has conducted basic research in cell biology with in over 120 scientific publications. In 1996, Dr. Harford was named Associate Director of the National Cancer
Institute and Chief of Staff of the Office of the Director. In 2002, Dr. Joe Harford became Director of the Office of International Affairs of the NCI where he has responsibility for interactions between the NCI and international entities. Dr. Harford serves as the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Group of the Ireland-Northern Ireland-NCI Cancer Consortium and as NCI liaison to the Middle East Cancer Consortium (MECC), the US-Japan Cooperative Cancer Research Program, the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), the American-Russian Cancer Alliance (ARCA), and the International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR).
Dr Harford serves on the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) ACSBI committee for the selection of international cancer research fellowships for beginning investigators.

Dr Rob Jones, MA, MBChB, PhD, FRCP Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology, Honorary Consultant Medical Oncologist Cancer Research UK - Beatson Laboratories
Dr Rob Jones is a senior lecturer in medical oncology at the University of Glasgow. His interests include the design and execution of clinical trials, particularly those using new anti-cancer
drugs. He also has an interest in the clinical aspects of new drug discovery and collaborates with basic science colleagues at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research. His clinical practice is based at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and focuses on the management of cancers of the prostate, bladder and kidney.
Dr Jones serves on the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) as Co-Chair of the International cancer technology transfer fellowships (ICRETT) and member of the UICC American Cancer Society international fellowships for beginning investigators (ACSBI) Grants Committee.
Dr David P. Ringer, PhD

Dr. Ringer received a PhD in Chemistry, with specialization in Biochemistry, from Wayne State University, and then a Masters of Public Health,
specializing in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Ringer joined the American Cancer Society as a Scientific Program Director the Extramural Grants (EG) Department in 1998. In 2007, he was appointed Managing Director of Operations for the Department, the Vice President for the EG Department in 2009, and subsequently the
National Vice President Extramural Research in 2010. In addition, Dr. Ringer serves as the American Cancer Society staff member on the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) ACSBI committee for the selection of international cancer research fellowships for beginning
investigators.

Dr Zdenko Herceg, PhD
Head of Epigenetics Group International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), France
Dr Herceg joined IARC in 1997 and his laboratory conducts both mechanistic studies and epigenetic profiling, aiming to gain a better mechanistic understanding of tumorigenesis, and to discover and validate new epigenetic biomarkers. This programme exploits new concepts in
cancer epigenetics and recent technological advances in epigenetics and epigenomics, and is carried out in close collaboration with national and international groups. Prior to joining IARC, he was a post-doctoral scientist at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna, Austria. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of St Andrews (UK) in the field of oncogenic transformation of human epithelial cells. He has authored a number of publications in the field of epigenetics, mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and cancer research.
Dr Herceg serves on the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) ACSBI committee for the selection of international cancer research fellowships for beginning investigators.
Dr Robert A. Hiatt, M.D., Ph.D. Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
at UCSF and the Director of Population Science and Deputy Director of the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center.
From 1998 to early 2003 Dr Robert A. Hiatt was the first Deputy Director of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences at the
National Cancer Institute. He is a past president of the American College of Epidemiology and the American Society for Preventive Oncology. His research interests include cancer epidemiology, especially breast cancer, cancer prevention
and screening, health services and outcomes research, the social determinants of cancer and breast cancer and early development. His central focus at UCSF is building a strong
transdisciplinary research and training program in epidemiology with a focus on cancer population sciences. Dr. Hiatt serves on the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)
ACSBI committee for the selection of international cancer research fellowships for beginning investigators.
Prof Evgeny N. Imyanitov, PhD Head of the Department of Tumor Growth Biology N.N. Petrov Institute of Oncology Head of the Department of Medical Genetics St.-Petersburg Pediatric Medical Academy Professor of Department of Oncology Medical Academy for Postgraduate Studies, St.-Petersburg, Russia.
Prof. Imyanitov graduated from the I.P. Pavlov Medical School (St.-Petersburg, Russia) in 1989. Evgeny Imyanitov completed his PhD studies in N.N. Petrov Institute of Oncology (St.-Petersburg, Russia) in 1992, and received the IARC Fellowship for post-doctoral training in the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (Munich, Germany). In 1996 he returned to the home

institute and established a research group. His current activities are focused on translational aspects of cancer science. In particular, the team of Prof. Imyanitov made a substantial contribution in the studies of hereditary cancer syndromes. In addition to clinically oriented research, the Evgeny Imyanitov’s laboratory investigates some basic aspects of cancer pathogenesis (systematic investigations on molecular features of bilateral breast cancer). Prof. Imyanitov is an author of over 80 publications in internationally recognized scientific journals.
