    THE BOOK REVIEWIf You Were Here by Jen Lancaster

    Jen Lancaster is known for her hilarious memoirs, and now

    shes trying her hand at fiction. Teen-zombie-romance author Mia

    and her husband Mac are finally tired of the crime and dirt of cityliving. They think theyre ready for the suburbs, so when Mia finds

    the actual house from the John Hughes movie Sixteen Candles for

    sale, she falls in love with it immediately. Mac likes the fact that the

    house has a panic room. Never mind that its been neglected for

    years and is a wreck inside: termites, holes in walls, and outdated

    everything. Add in angry neighbors and an editor looking for Mias

    next book, and what follows is renovation hell. Macs convinced

    they can do all the renovations themselves, but Mias not so sure.

    Personally I think her non-fiction is funnier, but its still a very

    entertaining first novel from Lancaster.

    The Best Christmas Pageant Everis the most popular Christmas show weve ever done, says director,Wheelice Wilson, so its back again this year to liven the holidays! What would happen if your dreary, everyday life was suddenly replaced

    with a wonderfully exciting, romantic life? Neglected housewife, Susan,

    is married to boring cleric, Gerald. One day she gets knocked out by

    stepping on a garden rake. She experiences hilarious hallucinations in

    which her oppressive everyday life is replaced by a fantasy in which she

    is an ideal wife and mother with an ideal family. While her real family

    treats her with condescension and apathy, her fantasy family dresses in

    lovely white, always drinks champagne, lives in a stately home and tells

    her that she is wonderful. Eventually, however, the fantasy family becomes

    nightmarish. This excellent, dark, witty and surreal comedy is considered

    to be one of Ayckbourns best. See www.irvingartscenter.com.

    Directed by J. Alan Hanna / Featuring: Dana Harrison as Susan;

    Neil Rogers as Gerald; Charles Maxham as Andy; David Smith as Bill;
