DESCRIPTION
See the full blog post here: http://artistmyth.com/12-ways-fear-stops-artists-dead-tracks/ Fear can kill creativity... and the ability to be effective in our business. Here are twelve ways that fear paralyzes us, keeping us from success. (See solutions and ideas to how you can beat those fears in the slideshow...enjoy!) 1. Fear Of Criticism Criticism is when people comment on our art in a negative way. 2. Fear of Apathy Apathy is when people don’t have any reaction to our work at all. 3. Fear of Failure Ok, we all know what Failure is. Another way to say it is…CRASHING AND BURNING. 4. Fear of Success Believe it or not, many of us are afraid of actually succeeding. This can make us stand out, or make people close to us feel that we’re better than them. 5. Fear of Exposure Many artists are very shy, not wanting to stand out. Exposure is a fear much like stage fright. Our instincts treat it like a real, physical danger. 6. Fear of Commitment Also the fear of making decisions. We’re afraid to commit to a course of action because we want to keep our options open. 7. Fear of Copying Of course we shouldn’t copy, but many of us go to the extreme and become paranoid that anything we do has been already done before. 8. Fear of Being Copied Our instinct is to jealously guard our ideas like they’re gold... and we often go to extremes to avoid being imitated. 9. Fear of Being Misunderstood We hate when we put out something we worked so hard on, and people just don’t get it. 10. Fear of Disappointment It is natural to avoid pain... so we might go out of our way to try to prevent disappointment. 11. Fear of Ridicule This is the fear of being dismissed, scorned, or made fun of in a contemptuous way. 12. Fear of Deadlines Procrastination is not an effective weapon against this fear... Fear can’t be battled with the lack of fear... it can only be defeated with Bravery. BRAVERY is being able to act in the presence of fear. We are equipped to face our monsters...and tame them. Criticism is when people comment on our art in a negative way.
![Page 6: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
The SolutionFilter out the invalid comments, and let in only the constructive ones that can help us improve.
![Page 7: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)

Apathy is when people don’t have any reaction to our work at all.
![Page 9: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The SolutionBe different, stand out from the pack. Also, make sure you get it in front of enough people.
![Page 10: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

Ok, we all know what Failure is.Another way to say it is...
crashing and burning.
![Page 12: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
The SolutionEverybody’s success is the result of lots of failure. Give yourself permission to fail... and try again.
![Page 13: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
fear of success

Believe it or not, many of us are afraid of actually succeeding.
This can make us stand out, or make people close to us feel that we’re better than them.
![Page 15: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
The SolutionReinforce to them that you’re still the same you, and you value yourrelationship. But don’t let it stop your progress.
![Page 16: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
fear of
exposure
05
![Page 17: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Many artists are very shy, not wanting to stand out. Exposure is a fear much like stage fright. Our instincts treat it like a real, physical danger.
![Page 18: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
The SolutionFoster a habitual self-dialogue that is aimed at dispelling feelings of real danger... tell yourself that you’re safe, and that the audience actually wants you to succeed.
![Page 19: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
fear of commitment
06
![Page 20: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Also the fear of making decisions. We’re afraid to commit to a course of action because we want to keep our options open.
![Page 21: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
The SolutionAsk yourself, “Do I believe in this? Is it worth doing?” If so, then go for it and don’t hold back.
![Page 22: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
fear of
copying
07
![Page 23: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Of course we shouldn’t copy, but many of us go to the extreme and become paranoid that anything we do has been already done before.
![Page 24: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
The SolutionIn truth, everything is a remix of other stuff. DO aim for originality, but don’t worry that you will be sued or branded a plagiarist.
![Page 25: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
fear of
being copied
08
![Page 26: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
Our instinct is to jealously guard our ideas like they’re gold... and we often go to extremes to avoid being imitated.
![Page 27: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
The SolutionDon’t hinder yourself or those you work with by fearing copycats. It may happen - but think abundantly, you have many more ideas inside you.
![Page 28: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
fear of being
misunderstood
09
![Page 29: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
We hate when we put outsomething we worked so hard on, and people just don’t get it.
![Page 30: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
The SolutionWork on the clarity of your message...and if your intended core audience understands, then you’re okay.
![Page 31: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
fear of
disappointment
10
![Page 32: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
It is natural to avoid pain... so we might go out of our way to try to prevent disappointment.
![Page 33: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
The SolutionRealize the failure to act will result in disappointment anyway... in the form of regret that you may not be able to fix.
![Page 34: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
fear of
ridicule
11
![Page 35: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
This is the fear of being dismissed, scorned, or made fun of in a contemptuous way.
![Page 36: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
The SolutionYou’re creating for your true fans, and they would never ridicule you. Take some criticism, but don’t accept ridicule.
![Page 37: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
fear of deadlines
12
![Page 38: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
Procrastination is not an effective weapon against this fear...
![Page 39: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/39.jpg)
The SolutionEmbrace the deadline, anticipate it and front-load the work. By acting you don’t give fear a foothold, and you may finish early.
![Page 40: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/40.jpg)
remember:Fear can’t be battled with the lack of fear... it can only be defeated with Bravery.
![Page 41: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/41.jpg)
BRAVERY is being able to act in the presence of fear.
![Page 42: 12 Ways Fear Stops Creatives Dead In Their Tracks](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052600/557d5745d8b42ad14f8b45f1/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
we are equipped to face our monsters...
