On Feb. 20, the National Associationof Home Builders (NAHB) announcedthat Natelli Communities had won theNAHB “Best in American LivingAward” for large-scale residential com-munities, for its development of the BayForest community, located near BethanyBeach. The award was announced at theInternational Builders’ Show in LasVegas, which was being attended by ap-proximately 90,000 people.

According to NAHB, “The Best inAmerican Living Awards is the NationalAssociation of Home Builders’ premierresidential design awards program. Theaward spotlights the most creative andtalented building industry professionalswho have redefined design excellence forhomes and communities nationally andinternationally. Winning projects show-case what building industry professionalsneed to know to set their product apartand hit the right mark with today’s highlyeducated and discerning home buyers.”

The Bay Forest community is locatedabout 4 miles west of Bethany Beach. Themaster plan for the 400-acre communityis designed to take advantage of severalenvironmental features of the site, includ-ing the Collins Creek tributary and sev-eral expansive areas of mature forestland.

Amenities include an entry lake withfountains, miles of interconnecting path-ways, two clubhouses with fitness facili-ties, a recreation barn, outdoor bar, yogaand aerobics studio, three pools, bocceball, putting green, volleyball, basketballcourts, tennis center, private marina withboat storage for canoeing and kayaking,playgrounds, outdoor fireplace settings,community herb garden with pottingshed and a community shuttle to down-town Bethany.

In awarding the top prize to NatelliCommunities for the 950-home Bay For-est community, the judges noted, “Theproject team maximized water and greenspaces and created a nice sense of micro-communities inside the natural habitat.The community has a lovely pool and re-sort-like amenities and the outside of the[recreation] barn is spectacular.”
