Overview of this Half-Day CEC Course: Water damage can have a significant impact on a person’s home or business but when it is contaminated with affluence, chemicals or ground water it can create a whole new set of problems.

Sewage and other contaminates pose a serious threat to those occupying the space with increased risk associated with indoor air quality, physical contamination, and building deterioration. It also requires additional work in addressing the damaged area’s and surrounding spaces to properly remediate. Efficient and effective remediation is essential in order to protect all inhabitants, the workers, and the building. For example what PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) needs to be worn by restoration technicians. What containment of the affected areas needs to be done. Additional time and material are normally incurred when dealing with these types of losses.

How do we address these situations as restorers? How can they impact the insured ? Why is coverage for sewer backups and black water infiltrations so important to the insured? These are just some of the important subjects we discuss during this course to help attendees understand what is involved in handling they types of losses.

We discuss a number of aspects associated with these type of loss including but not limited to: • What are some of the causes of this type of loss and what

may this include? • What is it we are dealing with? • What harm can it cause us? • How can we protect ourselves and the occupant? • Why is so much more involved than just drying the structure? • Why are these types of claims one of the most devastating losses? • This Course will be of value to Water and Remediation

Tech’s, Estimators, Project Managers, Property Managers, Insurance Brokers & Adjusters and others involved in disaster restoration.

• Remediating buildings contaminated with sewage and other water losses safely, quickly, efficiently, and with the insured still a loyal client at the end of it all can be a challenge but is possible.

Overview of this Half Day CEC Course: Over the years the increase of incidences involving active shooters, gang warfare and other illegal activities have meant a proliferation of grow-ops and meth labs. This has had an impact both on insurance carriers and restoration contractors. It has created the need for these industries to become familiar with what they may be facing when they become involved in these types of claims. There are so many variables.

Sometimes the aftermath will be localized but more often, we are seeing it impact larger or surrounding buildings including commercial, institutional, and residential properties. Often we find that crime and violence are closely linked so when called in to do a trauma scene clean-up we may find grow-ops, meth labs and other clandestine situations.

This half-day presentation will include: • Trauma scene, Grow-op, Fentanyl and Meth lab situations • Some potential Insurance considerations of issues and coverages • City and bylaw requirements and considerations • Remediation procedures • Returning the property to pre-loss

conditions

This course will appeal to: • Property owners and managers • Insurance companies and adjusters • Facilities managers • Restoration & Remediation Project Managers • Restoration Lead Techs and Technicians

“The contractors knowledge when facing

these situations assists in effective communication,

realistic timelines, expectations and expenses associated with this type of

loss.” !

It is essential that Project Managers, Crew Chiefs and Technicians have an understanding for the need for professionalism and expertise in identifying and reducing the risk and liability associated with the restoration of these situations and their environment.

Overview of this Half-Day CEC presentation: Over the years the dangers and negative health effects associated with mould and materials containing such things as asbestos and lead have heightened our awareness and the need to prevent or manage these contaminates much more conscientiously in the claims process. Nowhere has this become more evident in the last few years than in the disaster restoration industry. According to Canada Mortgage and Housing “people should not live in mouldy houses” so the prevention and effective remediation of this environmental concern must be taken seriously. In addition to this, buildings constructed prior to 1990 have a greater risk of containing building materials that include hazardous materials and the world of the restoration and insurance industry is very well aware of it. This half-day presentation will include:

• What contributes to the growth of mould and how it can be prevented • Why is a qualified water damage remediation contractor so important • Where and in what materials are lead and asbestos found • What is the procedure when hazardous materials are suspect • How is it effectively and efficiently remediated while reducing risk of liability

This course will appeal to: • Project Managers for restoration firms • Owners / Managers / Estimators of restoration firms • Insurance Adjusters • Restoration Job Site Superintendents • Restoration Crew Chiefs and Technicians • Restoration Demolition and Rebuild staff • Restoration Sub-Trades

Understanding and expertise are essential in identifying and reducing the risk and liability associated with restoration when these environmental concerns are present or suspect. The insurance industries knowledge when facing situations that may include these in the restoration process assists in effective communication and realistic timelines, expectations and expenses associated when encountering these on an insured loss.

Overview of this Half Day CEC Course: Many owners and senior managers of Disaster Restoration and Environmental Remediation contracting firms spend the majority of their training on the technical side of the business. While that is extremely important, it is also crucial, especially in today’s competitive business environment, to also get training on and focus on the ‘Business’ side of things.

We will discuss systems & procedures and how if they are properly set up will allow owners and senior managers to enjoy their business more, have less stress and run more profitably.

If you’re like a lot of entrepreneurs, you use your Profit & Loss (P&L) statement as your report card at the end of the year. You may even use your P&L to figure out what your company is worth by applying a multiple to your profit. But having worked with hundreds or restoration entrepreneurs we’ve seen examples of companies that are marginally profitable but still run out of cash. Or worst yet go bankrupt. Your P&L and Balance Sheet can reveal a great deal about how your business is run, what you can spend money on…..and what you shouldn’t.

We will discuss the eight things that drive the value and enjoyment of your company and suggestions on how to dramatically increase the value of your business.

During Course we’ll look at how to:

• Structure your business to maximize its value. • Accelerate the pace of positive word-of-mouth for your business • Differentiate your business using the same methodology Warren Buffet looks

for in the companies in which he invests. • Minimize your company’s reliance on your personal involvement using some of the

strategies Tim Ferris used to reduce the time he spent in his business to just four hours a week.

This course will appeal to:

• Owners of Disaster Restoration and EnvironmentalRemediation company’s

• Shareholders or Senior Managers • Owners of Restoration Sub-Trades • Insurance Brokerage Owners

This half-day Course is presented by a Restoration Contractor with extensive real life experience dealing with these types of situations. Art Johnson and/or Dan Murray will be your instructors.
