DX MAGAZINE No. 12 P Vol. XLIV P December 2009

Hello again,

Welcome to the last issue of our DX MAGAZINE in this year 2009. Let me take thisopportunity to thank you very much for all your support during this year.

Klingenfuss Publications have published their five new products for 2010 on December 8th:V 2010 Super Frequency List on CDV 2010 Shortwave Frequency GuideV 2010 Frequency Database for the PERSEUS Software-Defined ReceiverV 1997-2010 Digital Data Decoder Screenshots on CDV Free Supplement January 2010 to the 2009/2010 Guide to Utility Radio Stations

We've worked around the clock and hundreds of advance orders have been mailed by Thursday 10December.

Larry Magne's Passport to World Band Radio has been discontinued: there will be no 2010 edition andbeyond. By consequence, our 2010 Shortwave Frequency Guide remains the only international handbook that givesyou full schedule details for each entry in the unique broadcast frequency list.

On our updated website <http://www.klingenfuss.org> you can download full A4 size PDF sample pagesof our latest printed products as well as the new 2010 catalogue, plus detailed product descriptions, sample pages, screenshots, and a list of dealers worldwide - from Australia to the United States of America. Alternatively, you mayask for our free 24-pages 2010 printed catalogue to your postal address.

Deadline for the very latest 2010 broadcast schedules published in the brandnew Shortwave FrequencyGuide was on 20 November 2009. Unlike traditional publications in this field, our clear layout and new typefaceprovides for excellent legibility. See the brandnew PDF sample pages!

Apart from the usual up-to-date broadcast and utility station and schedule databases, the 2010 SuperFrequency List on CD now covers 353 fascinating new digital data decoder screenshots from professional HFstations around the globe.

Our product Digital Data Decoder Screenshots on CD now covers more than 7,000 (seven thousand!) digitaldata decoder screenshots from 1997 to today, essentially produced with WAVECOM equipment. Feed your WindowsPC with this CD, and the "slide show" will keep you busy for a few days - or weeks!

The free Supplement January 2010 to the 2009/2010 Guide to Utility Radio Stations can be downloadedfrom our website as well. Just click "Free Supplement Jan '10". (Klingenfuss Publications - Jörg Klingenfuss)

Also Bob Padula has published the Australian SW Guide 24 (B09 edition) in November and sent it to peoplewho had ordered and paid for it. There is only a PDF edition this time divided in four sections:

1. Listing by Studio Country2. Listing by Frequency3. Listing by Start Time4. Scope document

It has nearly 600 entries for each Section Listing:V Broadcasts in English to Australia, NZ, Pacific, AsiaV Broadcasts in languages other than English for Australia, Pacific, NZ

If you want the product, please send me A$10 (or US$10, five IRCs). Full details concerning ordering and paymentoptions are at the EDXP Home Page, at <http://edxp.org>. (Bob Padula)

Finally, let me wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year

The last edition in 2009: It is me/us to thank all supporting this column with updated infos – and itwill be good if there will be some more contributors.Last month there was a big overflow of infos and scheds, therefore this month some elder datedones to find here. This month I omitted some infos on mediumwave transmissions – space is rare inour printed media.

The best wishes for 2010!

AUSTRALIA / CHILE - Re. CVC Darwin. So indeed shortwave appears to be a done deal for Christian Vision. And yes, the governmental body that operated the Australian broadcasting transmitters at this time closed theDarwin/Cox site in 1997, following budget cuts for foreign broadcasting. It is also correct that in 2000 the site hadbeen leased to Christian Vision for ten years, and probably (although not necessarily) they simply let the lease runout now instead of renewing it. Now the question is if Broadcast Australia or another operator will step in. It couldhappen, but I would not count on it.Concerning the transmission equipment: At present it consists of one of the original Collins transmitters from 1968(three such rigs are still in use at Sackville, too) which can now be manually tuned only, requiring about 15 minutes.

Otherwise it are three rather modern Thomson transmitters, two originally delivered to the Cox site in 1994, the thirdone moved in from Carnarvon after this site had been closed in 1996.Reportedly Christian Vision brought in two Continental 100 kW transmitters from somewhere, replacing the twoother old Collins rigs. Perhaps they are not in use at all, or is there a time when more than four frequencies areon air simultaneously?Next question: What about CVC Spanish and the Calera de Tango transmitters? I would not count on ChristianVision keeping their shortwave activities in Chile either.(Kai Ludwig-D, dxld Dec 11)

CANADA - 6070 The low powered CFRX is back on the air again with 1 kW on 6070 kHz. This shortwave stationwas off the air for two years, while new equipment was obtained and installed. After it was re-activated, electronicproblems occurred and the transmitter was shipped back to New York for refurbishing. It has since been re-delivered to Toronto and re-installed at the mediumwave location. The signal nowadays is quite weak in the UnitedStates due to a beam orientation for listeners in Canada. Signal fade in can be heard best around sunrise (AdrianPeterson-USA, AWR Wavescan script Nov 29 direct and via dxld)

You`d think CVC Zambia on 9430 would also be well-heard, but not tonight; normally it`sbetter than ANU. 0700, a four-pip timesignal ending two seconds late, compared to WWV! And into brief news inFrench, soon another ID. Why in the world run a timesignal if you are that far off? A simple announcement of thetime should be enough, without a signal implying far more accuracy than in reality.9580, Africa Numéro Un, Dec 6 at 2203 in French news of Somalia, VG signal. I also had them well at 0700 as inprevious report. I am beginning to wonder if during the last several months they had been running reduced powerand have just recently resumed full power, 500 kW per WRTH. We are also still waiting for them to reactivate asecond transmitter (WRTH shows three), and bring back daytime frequencies 17630, 15475. BTW, there are noGabon registrations in HFCC (gh, WOR 1490, DXLD)

GERMANY - Hamburger Lokalradio announces test transmissions on 5980 kHz, running 1 kW from the privatelyowned transmitter plant (a former utility site) at Krekel, in the municipality of Kall near Euskirchen, i.e. the site thatsince last year transmits Radio 700 on 6005 kHz with 1 kW, too. As of Dec 1st Hamburger Lokalradio will be on5980 daily between 1000 and 1200, on Dec 24, 25 and 26 from 0600 to 1200 which appears to be the maximumairtime authorized by the German telcom regulation authority (Bundesnetzagentur) so far.According to various reports in the A-DX mailing list and the Mysnip forum 8773 the transmitter has already beentested during the last days, with borrowed modulation of Radio 700. I understand that besides this low power relaythe 100 kW transmissions via Wertachtal, every first Sunday of the month 1000- 1100 on 6045, will continue. Atleast no cancellation has been announced so far. Of course this tiny low power outlet can not adequately replace aprofessional broadcasting transmitter with 20 dB more juice (Kai Ludwig, Germany, Nov 22)

IRELAND - 3910, Atlantic R, 11/13 via Global Tuners UK from 2302 to 2333 with predictably nice signal. However6960 was not heard, even in the UK. A QSL e-mail from Stephen Prendergast explained why: "We broadcast fromthe west coast of Ireland, we have a 80 ft vertical tower that supports a inverted V for our 6960 kHz transmitter(currently 10 watts) and we have a inverted L antenna for 1251 kHz MW. Our 1251 kHz transmitter will not be fullyup and running till Christmas, and will operate on 300 Watts. The 3910 kHz transmitter is located at a different site not too far away, it`s a horizontal dipole, the transmitter wasrunning at 150 W from 2000 to 2210, and then 500 W from then till close at 2333.This has been our secondbroadcast, and first on 3910. We hope to return during the Christmas season as we need to make improvements toour 6960 transmitter. our link was dropping due to water logging in the coax."10 w is not likely to travel far! 6960 could be an interesting target for the Christmas broadcast (Bruce Churchill,Fallbrook CA, Nov 22, Cumbre DX via DXLD)

LITHUANIA - Am 30.

WTWW: Does anyone know the official start date and time in UT of this new shortwave broadcaster. We TransmitWorld Wide. I like the name, very catchy. I hear they will use two frequencies-(Gary Drew, UK, Dec 9, dxldyg via DXLD)There is no “official start date”. I just talked to George McClintock. Most things are ready, but they are waiting on thepower company to install the transformer, etc., and that is being delayed by the weather. There has been rain andwind, it`s muddy and a bulldozer has to be used. The power poles are on site but not yet set. He says the powercould be on this week, or next week, hopefully not later than that. The antenna wires are almost strung. Once theycan go on the air, there will probably be a period of testing before regular programming starts (Glenn Hauser, Dec 9,WOR 1490, DXLD)
