Our ‘Elective’ Programme on Friday afternoon is working very well. The students are learning so many things and they are enjoying their Friday afternoons very much. We will be running our Basic Facts Competition soon – similar to last year where we will have the Senior, Middle and Junior school students competing for cash prizes. So parents, anything that you can do to help your child at home with their Basic Facts will be very beneficial. MATARIKI DAY Thursday 18th June As part of Te Reo Whiria Matariki studies Wiri Central School’s Total Immersion Unit Mōkai Āwhina are coming to visit us for a day of whakawhanaunga and matariki learning activities. We have a few photos and reports from some of the Year 5 and 6 students who attended this camp to share with you. My favourite part of the camp was the Burma Trail. it was so cool because me and my friends Elizabeth and Kristina went first out of everyone. Once we finished we scared a boy called Brooklyn. It was so funny! his exact words were, “You nearly scared me to death!”, but in a funny way. He kept complaining that we shouldn’t have scared him. I really like the Burma Trail, it was really cool. - Raedeline D4 Note from Mr Palfrey

On Monday 18 May, 31 of our students travelled by bus to Camp Kahunui.

It was so funny! his exact words were, You nearly scared me to death!, but in a funny way. He kept complaining that we shouldnt have scared him. I really like the Burma Trail, it was really cool.

CAMP KAHUNUI REFLECTIONSMy favourite part of Camp Kahunui was the survival walk with Mr. Evans and his dog Archy. We learnt how to build a bivie out of rope and a tarp, and we had hot chocolate that was heated up from our bonfire and water from the lake.On our way to and from the walk we saw warthog tracks and a dead deer.My least favourite part was the drive. It was so long, 7 hours there and 7 hours back, but at least we watched Big Hero 6, my third favourite movie. The girls at St Cuthberts done a really good job looking after the place and putting new stuff there and expanding them, plus Kahunui has a great story to it (as well)The staff there were awesome, they gave us some native tree, so thanks to them.I loved the camp and I think they should keep sending MEP there.- Brooklyn D4

My favourite part of Camp Kahunui was making a raft.My less favourite part of camp was the Burma Trail because it was scary and because we had no internet and it was at night time. I wasnt used to the dark. The thing that I am grateful for was all the people that took their time to do all the cool activities and teach us cool new skills. My favourite animal was Archie the dog because he was funny and cute.I would like to go next year so I am going to work my hardest.- Liana D4

When I went to camp it was amazing!! The bus ride was like 6 hours! But we took a break to eat. The things we did at camp were; fishing, kayaking, survival outdoor cooking, nature walk, burma trail, sooting and tree climbing. My disappointment were my tooth and gumboot sores. My tooth came out when we stopped on a Pirates Island while we were kayaking. It came out when I was eating a Gingernut. I got a sore during survival and I was wearing gumboots. The gumboots made a mark that was quite big on each leg so when we cam back from survival my camp leader sprayed on disinfectant spray and it really stung.I really enjoyed my first camp ever. I wish I could go next year!- Shyla D4
