Toyota Optimal DriveAvensis off ers three petrol and four diesel engines. All are engineered for the optimum blend of performance, economy and low emissions thanks to Toyota Optimal Drive. The revised 2.0 litre D-4D turbodiesel,

for example, features lower CO emissions and greater fuel effi ciency – yet delivers smoother torque across the range. Toyota’s Multidrive S, a continuously variable transmission with paddle shifts, is available on the 1.8 litre

petrol engine. Meanwhile, inside the cabin, extensive insulation and improved suspension ensure a quieter, more refi ned journey for everyone.

Vehicle Stability Control Plus (VSC+) VSC+ helps to maintain stability and prevent skidding when turning sharply or cornering on slippery surfaces. Whenever the start of a skid is detected, it automatically activates individual brakes and controls engine output. In addition, it applies steering assistance to make it easier to get back on course.

Emergency Brake-light Signal (EBS) In emergency braking situations, EBS fl ashes the vehicle’s brake lights repeatedly to alert following traffi c.

Active headrests In a rear impact, Active headrests move diagonally upwards and forwards to provide extra head support and reduce the risk of whiplash.

Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) The PCS system uses radar to predict possible collisions. It then triggers an audio-visual alarm, activates Brake Assist (BA), tenses seatbelts and will even engage the brakes to reduce potential damage on impact.

Glossary

Rain sensorThe automatic rain sensor instantly sets the appropriate wiper speed and intervals.

Dusk sensor The dusk sensor monitors light levels and automatically switches on the headlights when the light is low.

Electrochromatic mirror with built-in rear-view monitor For more convenient reversing, day or night, the rear-view mirror can be fi tted with a monitor to show images from the rear-view camera.

Smart Entry & Start System Instead of a conventional key, the Smart Entry & Start System features a transmitter that allows you to unlock the doors by pulling the handle and lock them again by pressing a button. To start or stop the engine, simply press the Start/Stop button. All you need to do is carry the Smart Entry key in your pocket or handbag.

Toyota Touch® 2 with GoBuilding on the Toyota Touch® 2 multimedia base unit, Toyota Touch® 2 with Go includes a navigation system with full European map coverage, detour and eco-route functions. Its WVGA screen displays a 2D and 3D map view with connected services including real-time traffi c updates and local online search facilities. Advanced Bluetooth® enables features such as Toyota Eurocare roadside assistance and SOS emergency call support.

Traction Control (TRC)If you accelerate too hard and cause the drive wheels to lose grip and begin spinning, TRC will automatically reduce engine power and control brake force to help restore traction.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)ACC keeps you at a minimum preset distance from the vehicle in front. If this distance falls, ACC reduces your speed and eventually the brakes will be applied and brake lights activated. If the distance increases again, ACC will gradually accelerate until you return to your chosen cruising speed.

Tyre pressure warning system The system features a sensor valve within each wheel to constantly monitor tyre air pressure. These sensors link with a dashboard indicator that illuminates to warn you if the pressure falls below the recommended level. By doing so, the system contributes to safer driving, better tyre wear and greater fuel effi ciency.

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbagsThis model is fi tted with seven airbags. They include driver’s knee airbag, SRS airbags for both driver and passenger, side airbags for the front seats, and SRS curtain shield airbags covering both the front and rear seat passengers.

Brake Assist (BA) If you attempt an emergency stop, BA will detect this and apply additional brake pressure. This enables ABS to work to its maximum potential.

Multidrive SContinuously Variable Transmission (CVT) combines the smoothness of an automatic transmission gearbox with the fuel economy of a manual transmission. By seamlessly adjusting the pulley ratio, Multidrive S delivers the most fuel-effi cient performance. It also off ers an additional sport option. This engaging experience is delivered through a simulated sequential 7-speed manual mode; change gears using the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts.

ECO-driving Indicator The ECO-driving Indicator, available on automatic transmissions, monitors the vehicle speed and your use of the accelerator to show you how fuel-effi cient your driving is.

Your Avensis will need a full Health and Safety check, dependent on driving style and conditions, up to once every two years or 30,000 km (whichever comes sooner). An intermediate Health and Safety check is necessary every year or 15,000 km (whichever comes sooner).

Toyota genuine parts Avensis is designed to minimise the cost of accident repair. Energy-absorbing elements are built into the bumpers, expensive-to-replace parts are located away from damage zones, and commonly damaged body parts are bolted rather than welded. As a result, the extent of damage is limited and damaged parts are easy to remove, replace or repair. Ultimately, this means very low parts and labour charges.

Comprehensive warranty 3-year vehicle warranty covers any defect caused by a manufacturing or assembly fault. It is valid for 3 years of normal use or 100,000 km, whichever comes fi rst, with no mileage limitation for the fi rst year.

If the car is immobilised due to a breakdown (as a result of a defect covered under warranty), you will also be covered for the cost of towing your vehicle to the nearest authorised Toyota repairer.

3-year paint warranty covers surface rust and paint defects appearing on any of the painted body panels as a result of a fault in materials for a period of 3 years, regardless of mileage.

12-year anti-perforation warranty covers against perforation of the bodywork (from inside to outside) that develops due to corrosion caused by faults in materials or workmanship, regardless of mileage.

The environmental impact of the Avensis (engine type 1AD-FTV – diesel) compared to its previous model (engine type 1CD-FTV – diesel) is demonstrated through the complete life cycle analysis with 17% CO (Carbon Dioxide), 19% NOx (Nitrogen Oxide), 17% NMHC (Non-Methane Hydrocarbons), 38% PM (Particulate Matter) and 3% SOx (Sulphur Oxide) reduction.

At Toyota, every eff ort is made to ensure environmental effi ciency throughout the manufacturing process. Since 2002, we have reduced the average energy consumption per vehicle built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing United Kingdom by 7.5%. Waste disposed of at cost was also reduced by 33.9% and the plant no longer sends any waste to landfi ll sites.
