Mid-South Churches Cooperative Conference State Convention Annual Session and Congress of Christian Education

President’s LetterFebruary 2017

I greet each of you in the name of our risen Savior! On behalf of your MSCCC Team, I take this time to thank you for your outstanding support. Last year, we had a wonderful week of instruction, inspiration, and fellowship. From the inspirational teaching and devotionals all week long to the exhibition of our children and youth on our closing night, we were indeed lifted to higher heights in Christ. Let’s work together to reach even higher heights this year. Our 67th Annual Congress and 5th Annual Convention Session will take place nightly March 20-23, 2017, at Oak Hill/The Hill-Hernando Church Family, 1775 Memphis Street, Suite B, Hernando, Mississippi – yours truly Dr. Michael O. Minor, host pastor. This year’s theme is Envisioning the Future Exceptionally: Through Our Commitment to Christian Stewardship (Jeremiah 29:11, 1 Corinthians 4:1-2).

Our State Congress Dean Ms. Loretta Miller and her team have been working hard to offer us a quality set of courses, seminars, and workshops. We know we have some of the best instructors in the country. That commitment to excellence was evidenced by Dr. Jevon Marshall (Antioch-Walls) winning the SSPB’s Southwest Region 1 Instructor of the Year Award last December. This year, we have three new course offerings: 2089 Death and Dying – Pastor Darnell Tate, 2092 A Christian View toward the Poor, Hungry, and Disadvantaged – Pastor Callaway Bain, and 7006 Fundamentals and Strategies for Street Witnessing – Dr. Jevon and Lady Deborah Marshall. See the back of this year’s congress program guide for the dates of additional Christian education opportunities or visit our regional calendar at www.midsouthchurches.com/calendar.

In closing, we are grateful to God for each of you and for your continued support. Let’s come to be “Ready to Run with Jesus”!

Yours for the cause of Christ,Dr. Michael O. MinorYour Congress and State Convention President

About Mid-South Churches Cooperative Conference (MSCCC)MSCCC is a fellowship of Mid-South churches dedicated to the promotion of Christian education through the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). The MSCCC is a representing state convention in the National Baptist Convention, USA, Incorporated (NBCUSA).Vision: We will become the leading Christian education voice among National Baptist Churches and other doctrinally aligned churches.Mission: We will achieve our vision by staying true to Christ’s Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20.Goals: Our Christian education goals are

To equip and train the people of God directly and indirectly by providing opportunities for local churches, districts, and other unions to be certified while fostering love, humility and unity;

To continue affiliation with the National Baptist Congress; and To continue certification by the Sunday School Publishing Board (SSPB).

Brief History: Our State Congress traces its origin to the year 1938 with the expansion of the Paradise Sunday School and Baptist Training Union (BTU) under the leadership of Deacon Dan Robinson (New Hope-Walls). The BTU continued meeting annually until 1954. From 1954-1966, there was a period of inactivity. However, in 1966, the Congress was reorganized at Independent-Tyro as the North Mississippi Baptist Education Congress with Pastor L. S. Biles (Carroll Bluff) elected as president and Pastor V. B. Brown (St. Paul) as Dean. In March 2009, Dr. Michael O. Minor was elected president. Under his tenure, the Congress changed its name to the North Mississippi Baptist State Congress of Christian Education. Other Deans include Pastor T. J. Denson (1970-1977, West Antioch #2), Deacon S. D. Minor, Sr. (Mt. Calm, 1977-1988), Ms. Mable Lawrence (1988-2010, Hickory Grove), Dr. Michael O. Minor (Oak Hill/The Hill-Hernando, 2011-2012), Ms. Loretta Miller (Prince of Peace, 2013-present). Other Presidents include: Pastor Jacob Davis (1987-1989, Hammond Hill), Pastor CJ Thomas (1989-2009, Pleasant Hill), Dr. Michael O. Minor (Oak Hill/The Hill-Hernando, 2009-present).Mid-South Churches Cooperative Conference State Convention (MSCCC) began as an informal network of pastors committed to Christian education, health and wellness, and economic development in 2002. On August 8, 2008, MSCCC launched a web portal. Through the years, Mid-South Churches hosted several Christian education workshops and an online regional calendar of events. In December 2011, at the move of the Holy Spirit among pastors in North Mississippi, the web portal was transformed into a full-fledged conference of churches. After a unanimous vote of the officers, pastors, and members on May 31, 2012, MSCCC became a State Convention/State Congress/Association. At the same time, the Original North
