Powerful readings are scheduled for today’s liturgy, including the story of the Ten Commandments from the book of Exodus and the story of Jesus’ turn ing the money changers out of the Temple from the Gospel of John.

However, all of the readings designated for today and for the next two Sundays may be set aside in favor of the A-year readings which focus on the baptismal themes of water, light, and life. Taking this option is

especially appropriate in assemblies celebrating rites called scrutinies with the elect who are preparing for baptism at the Easter Vigil. These scrutiny rites, celebrated on the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Sundays of Lent, are meant to discover and heal anything sinful that may remain in the hearts of the elect and to uncover and strengthen that which is good.

My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes,

This week Our Lady of Lourdes is hosting the North American Lourdes Volunteers as they present their national Volunteer & Medical Professional Conference: Discovering God’s Mercy Serving the Sick and Disabled at Lourdes. The conference offers a few days of training and sharing for those, especially medical professionals, who have served in the past or are inter-ested in helping to make it possible for pilgrims who have special needs to make the visit to the Sanctuary of Lourdes.

Please reach out to them and help them to feel at home here in Miami. We hope to see them all on a regular basis! If you too are interested but did not have the chance to register for the conference please let me know and I’ll see what I can do to get you registered. The conference opens Friday afternoon, runs all day Saturday and closes with dinner here at the parish.

The Special Needs Pilgrimages that leave from Miami are in June and October. We have more information about these and all our pilgrimages in the bulletins that can be found on our Lourdes Wall.

Having all the leadership of the North American Lourdes Volunteers here in Miami for the conference has its benefits. They have agreed to offer us a Virtual Pilgrimage with the chance to touch the rock of the grotto and wash with the water of Lourdes on Tuesday, March 8th, in the main church. Our Holy Father has granted a plenary indulgence for those who make the Vir-tual Pilgrimage, meeting the usual requirements for indulgences. Making the Virtual Pilgrimage is a wonderful way to share in the grace of Lourdes for those who cannot travel to Lourdes at this time and a great introduction to the Sanctuary of Lourdes for those who are interested in joining one of our pilgrimages.

In one way or another, come and join us as we enjoy having the North American Lourdes Volunteers in Miami!

Esta semana Nuestra Señora de Lourdes es la sede de los Voluntarios de Lourdes de Norteamérica presentando la Conferencia Nacional de Voluntarios y profesional médico: Descubriendo la misericordia de Dios en el servicio a los enfermos y discapacitados en Lourdes. La conferencia ofrece algunos días de formación e intercambio para aquellos, especialmente los profesionales médicos, que han servido en el pasado o están interesados en ayudar a hacer posible que los peregrinos que tienen necesidades especiales puedan hacer la visita al Santuario de Lourdes. Recíbalos y ayúdeles a sentirse en casa aquí en Miami. ¡Esperamos verlos a todos ellos de manera regular!

Si usted también está interesado, pero no tuvo la oportunidad de inscribirse en la conferencia por favor hágamelo saber y voy a ver qué puedo hacer para conseguir que se registre. La conferencia se abre viernes por la tarde, funciona todo el día sábado y se cierra con cena aquí en la parroquia.

Tener toda la directiva de los voluntarios de Lourdes de Norteamérica aquí en Miami para la conferencia tiene sus beneficios. Nos han ofrecido una peregrinación virtual con la posibilidad de tocar la roca de la gruta y lavar-nos con el agua de Lourdes el martes, 8 de marzo, en la iglesia principal. Nuestro Santo Padre ha concedido una indulgencia plenaria para aquellos que hacen la peregrinación virtual, cumpliendo los requisitos habituales de indulgencias. Hacer la peregrinación virtual es una manera maravillosa de compartir en la gracia de Lourdes para aquellos que no pueden viajar a Lourdes en este momento y una gran introducción al Santuario de Lourdes para aquellos que estén interesados en formar parte de una de nuestras peregrinaciones.

INTRODUCTION TO SACRED SCRIPTURECOMING SOON TO OUR LADY OF LOURDES

A course on Sacred Scripture, part of the Archdiocese of Miami requirements for Catechist Certification and Catholic School Teachers is being offered at Our Lady of Lourdes.

This course is open to Catechists, Catholic school teachers and anyone in the parish who wishes to deepen their knowledge of our Catholic understanding of Sacred Scripture. It could be of special benefit to those already participating in liturgical ministry at Our Lady of Lourdes, especially those who proclaim the word at Mass.

This 10 contact hour course will be in room 119 of the school from 9:00 A.M. until 12:30 p.m. on February 20, 27, and March 12, 2016. Deacon Mike Plummer will teach this course.
