Somedoctors have said theymay stop acceptingMedicarepatients be-cause of scheduledpay-ment cuts set inmotionby a 1997 law, cuts thatare unaffectedby thenew statute. The ads say that theAf-fordableHealthCareActcuts $500 billion fromMedicare. It’s true thatthe lawwould restrainfuture growth of thepro-gram, but this isn’t cut-ting fromexisting spend-ing, as the amount isspread over 10 years, to-taling about 7 percent ofwhatMedicare is project-

ed to cost over thatdecade. The adalso featuresseniors saying the lawwill “hurt thequality ofour care.” The truth isthat theAffordableHealthCareAct specifi-cally forbids cuts in thebasic package ofMedicarebenefits, andeven adds somenew fea-tures, such aswellnesscheckups. It also closesthe “doughnut hole” gapin theprescriptiondrugbenefit, whichwill saveMedicare recipients asubstantial amount ofmoney. It is very ironic that therightwingers are sayingthat SenatorBrown is at-tempting to defundMedicare, as these verysame rightwingers in theHouse ofRepresenta-

tives voted severalmonths ago for thePaulRyanBudgetwhichwould replaceMedicarewith ahalf-baked vouch-er system, whichwouldgreatly diminishhealthcare for seniors. The radicals on the

right despise SenatorBrown, becausehe alongwith SenatorBernieSanders ofVermont, hasbeen themost vocalagainst their efforts toeliminateMedicare andSocial Security. Thepeo-ple ofOhiowill not beswayedby these feebleattempts to distort Sena-torBrown’s record.

‘Quote’‘Quote’The year that is

drawing towardsits close, has

been filled with theblessings of fruitfulfields and healthfulskies. To these boun-ties, which are so con-stantly enjoyed that weare prone to forget thesource from which theycome, others have beenadded, which are of soextraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail topenetrate and softeneven the heart which ishabitually insensible to

the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magni-

tude and severity, which has sometimes seemedto foreign States to invite and to provoke theiraggression, peace has been preserved with allnations, order has been maintained, the lawshave been respected and obeyed, and harmonyhas prevailed everywhere except in the theatreof military conflict; while that theatre has beengreatly contracted by the advancing armies andnavies of the Union.Needful diversions of wealth and of strength

from the fields of peaceful industry to the nation-al defence, have not arrested the plough, theshuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the bor-ders of our settlements, and the mines, as well ofiron and coal as of the precious metals, haveyielded even more abundantly than heretofore.Population has steadily increased, notwithstand-ing the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmentedstrength and vigor, is permitted to expect contin-uance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any

mortal hand worked out these great things. Theyare the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hathnevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemedto me fit and proper that they should be solemn-ly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged aswith one heart and one voice by the wholeAmerican People.I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every

part of the United States, and also those who areat sea and those who are sojourning in foreignlands, to set apart and observe the last Thursdayof November next, as a day of Thanksgiving andPraise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth inthe Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering

up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such sin-gular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverse-ness and disobedience, commend to His tendercare all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civilstrife in which we are unavoidably engaged, andfervently implore the interposition of theAlmighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nationand to restore it as soon as may be consistentwith the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment ofpeace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

As you readthis, I amprobably

roasting in an ovensomewhere, soon to become thecenterpiece of someone’sThanksgiving dinner. If so, I would plead foramnesty for my brethren. If not— please save my neck!! I amcalling for all birds, not justturkeys to join “OccupyThanksgiving.”For most of the year, weturkeys are the kings of thebarnyard. We rule. But asautumn approaches, therespect we get from the otherfowl begins to disappear. Eventhe chickens begin to snickerwhen they go by. The ducks andgeese have been known to say“I hope you can carve a nicefuture for yourself…” beforebursting into laughter andheading off to the pond where Ican’t chase them. Why do you want to eat a big

bird that doesn’t really have

much flavor untilyou add the gravy? It’s not OUR faultthat we go so wellwith stuffing andcranberry sauce! And don’t forgetthat eating turkeyalways makes youfall asleep after themeal.

But there are alternativesyou should consider that won’tput you into slumberland.Wouldn’t a nice, succulentham, or maybe a standing ribroast be more delicious? Howabout a roasted lamb with thatmint jelly? But no — it’s always turkey. You don’t know how it is. Imean, I’d like to watch the foot-ball games on Thanksgiving, too. My brother said it wasnothing to lose my head overand I told him that’s exactlywhat’s going to happen!I saw the farmer walking

toward me last week and hesaid “Tom, old boy, I’m going toaxe you something…”I responded “Do you mean‘ask’?”He grinned… “Uh… no…”When I was just a poult (that’s

what they call us when we’re

babies) I saw a cute femaleturkey. I said “Hey, chick…wanna go out?” Her momstepped in, however… she said“His kind never stick aroundmore than a year.”As I got a little older, Inoticed my buddies and I wereputting on a lot of weight. Itried to join a gym, but my feetwouldn’t reach the pedals onthe stationary bike.I’m tired of being told to notget my feathers ruffled. I’mmad as heck and I’m not goingto take it anymore!Over the years, the Presidentof the United States has seenfit to spare one of us. I thinkthat is a wonderful trend thatshould be repeated across thenation. What we turkeys need is a

lobbyist in Washington. Rightnow, when someone mentionsturkey to those guys, they thinkof a country like many that isfighting terrorism. Yet, weturkeys in America are terror-ized each year.If I survive 2011, I am plan-

ning to start a PAC, financed bythe beef industry, that willbring equal rights to turkeys.Freedom for Meleagris gal-

Isometimes feel, inmy careers as atalk show host and

Thefact of the matter is wehave so much to bethankful for in this greatUnited States of Ameri-ca!I don’t want to sit and

and sometimes bitterelection we justwrapped up, we have toappreciate that we areso fortunate to live in acountry where we canmake the kinds of choic-es and decisions wemake on Election Daywithout fearing arrest,or even death, for mak-ing those choices. We are about to enter

into religious Holidaysthat will have to be cele-brated in hiding placesin nations around theworld, since religiousfreedom is seen asthreatening to those na-tions’ rulers.I am thankful for allthose who have touchedour lives, some who arestill with us and somewho have moved on totheir great rewards. Iam so grateful for ourextended families, someclose by and some sepa-rated by physical miles, but present with us inour hearts.I am so thankful forthe brave men andwomen in uniform allacross the globe defend-ing all the rights I justoutlined in this country;and a special thanks tothe families making thesacrifice here at homecelebrating the Holi-

As has been ex-pected, the U.S.Supreme Court

agreed to decide the con-stitutionality of thehealth care reform lawchampioned by Presi-dent Barack Obama. The justices madetheir announcement in abrief order issued lastMonday. Attorneys forthe Government and thestate challengers of thelaw will have oral argu-ments in March. TheSupreme Court wouldthen be expected to makea ruling in June 2012,making the decision acritical aspect of the 2012presidential race. The decision comesdays after Ohio votersoverwhelmingly passedState Issue 3, the OhioHealthcare FreedomAmendment. The meas-ure calls for exemptingresidents of Ohio fromnational health caremandates which wouldstop any state law fromforcing persons, employ-ers or health careproviders from partici-pating in a health caresystem. Issue 3 passed 65percent to 35 percent. The high court agreed

to hear two major ques-tions: whether the law’skey provision is unconsti-tutional, and if so,whether the entire law, with its 450 sections, istherefore invalid. At legal issue iswhether the individualmandate section of thePatient Protection andAffordable Care Act, re-quiring nearly all Ameri-cans to buy health insur-ance by 2014 or face fi-nancial penalties, is animproper exercise of fed-eral authority. The 26states who joined the suit

say that if that provisionis unconstitutional, theentire law must be struckdown. In Ohio, Attorney Gen-eral Mike DeWine hailedthe announcement by theCourt who joined Ohioand 25 other states in theconstitutional challengeto the federal health careact.“On my first day asOhio Attorney General, Iauthorized Ohio to jointhe case challenging theconstitutionality of the in-surance mandate im-posed on virtually everyAmerican by Obamacare.I firmly believe that thehealth care law is uncon-stitutional,” said DeWine.“In ten short months,

we’ve prevailed on thisissue at the trial and ap-peals court levels andnow will have the matterheard by the UnitedStates Supreme Court. This case is important toour country and shouldhelp affirm the constitu-tional limits on federalpower. I’m very glad theCourt has decided tohear it,” DeWine said.
