ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

TOOLS REQUIRED:

Drill with #2 Phillips Bit or Phillips Screwdriver Hammer or Mallet

ARBOR SIDE PANEL ASSEMBLY (Refer to Drawing 1) (Make 2) On clean flat surface, lay the two 2 x 2 x 65" posts with screw pilot holes facing up and routed holes for 7/8 x 1 ½ x 29 ¾" cross rails facing each other. Insert one of the 7/8 x 1 ½ x 29 ¾" top/bottom rails into the bottom routed holes in post, then insert the center rails. Slide the 1 x 1 x 58 ¼" vertical rails through the routed holes of the cross rails and insert the last top/bottom cross rail into the top of the posts guiding the 1 x 1's into the top rail. Firmly press the posts together so that all cross rails are completely inserted in the posts. Fasten the posts and cross rails with the ¾" screws and snap the screw caps over the screw heads. ARBOR TOP ASSEMBLY (Refer to Drawing 2) Using the two bent arbor tops, with 1 x 1" routed holes facing each other, insert the 1 x 1 x 29 ¾" square rail between tops. Make sure 1 x 1's are completely in both bent arbor top pieces and fasten with the 1 ¼" screws and snap screw caps over screw heads. Set the flared ends of the arbor top assembly onto the assembled side panels. The screw caps on the side panels should face the outside of the completed arbor unit. Option 1 (soft ground) Slide one 16” steel L-channel ground anchor into bottom of each post. Slide ground anchor up to bottom cross rail. Using two 1” self-tapping white-head screws per post, screw post to ground anchor (figure 1). When fastening, use one screw per side where ground anchor meets post. For added support fasten screws with at least two inches vertically between them. Option 2 (hard ground) Measure distances between posts and mark ground accordingly. Pound 16” steel L-channel ground anchors into ground according to measurements and basic layout (figure 2), leaving about 4 inches of ground anchor exposed. When pounding into ground, use block of wood to prevent ground anchor from bending. Slide arbor over ground anchors. Using two 1” self-tapping white-head screws per post screw post to ground anchor (figure 1). When fastening, use one screw per side where ground anchor meets post. For added support fasten screws with at least two inches vertically between them. Option 3 (permanent installation) Measure distances between posts and mark ground accordingly. Dig holes 12” deep according to measurements and basic layout (figure 2). Fill with cement and place 16” steel L-channel ground anchors in wet cement. Be sure that ground anchors are straight and in accordance with measurements of arbor posts. Allow cement to dry. NOTE: There is very little room for error with this installation method. Slide arbor over ground anchors. Using two 1” self-tapping white-head screws per post screw post to ground anchor (figure 1). When fastening, use one screw per side where ground anchor meets post. For added support fasten screws with at least two inches vertically between them.
