Message from the FAAT Chairman of the Board
Greetings!
Each year, the Filipino-American Association of the Triad hold its annual gala,
not only to raise funds for the less fortunate in the Philippines but also to see old
friends and meet new friends. Today we are gathered here to celebrate this event
which I am sure will be enjoyed by everyone. On behalf of the officers and
members of the FAAT, I would like to welcome all of our guests to our 11th
annual gala celebration.
I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support and
participation in the fund-raising activities for our humanitarian and medical
missions in the Philippines. Through these various contributions, I am confident
that we will achieve our goals: To help those who are in need.
Thank you and God Bless us all.

Rigodon One form of the dance, the
Rigodon de Honor, has been called one of the most refined of the national dances of the Phillipines. It is an elegant traditional feature of the highest Phillipine state functions. It may be of French influence but the ones who brought it to the Philippines were the Spanish friars who taught it to the native rulling class or Principalía of towns and cities to open ballroom dances for religious charities or a local fund drive. The music is Spanish and Filipino.
Ragragsakan The word ragragsakan is an Ilocano word
which means merriment, and the Kalingas of Lubuagan knew how to celebrate and be merry that they named a dance after it. The Ragragsakan dance was created through the inspiration of Kalinga maidens balancing labba baskets placed on their heads as they carry the things needed by the people during merrymaking which usually takes place during triumphant returns of headhunters or successful peace-pacts between rival tribes.
Bakya Dance BakyaDance is a very interesting and
lively dance. In this dance, young girls and boys are supposed to be teasing each other rhythmically with their bakya.
Tinikling is the National Dance of the Philippines. Tinikling is
the most popular and best known of the Philippine dances. It is an indigenous dance from the Philippines where dancers rhythmically steps in and out of clapping bamboo poles. The name refers to species of rail birds locally known as tikling; the term tinikling literally means "tikling-like." The dance imitates the movement of the tikling as they walk between grass stems, run over tree branches, or dodge bamboo traps set by rice farmers. The bamboo is also used as a percussive instrument as it is banged against the ground and each other in a rhythm. The bamboo poles must come together hard enough to make a sound, and the dancers must be quick enough to avoid getting their feet caught between the poles. As the bamboo poles bang faster and harder, the sound gets louder and the dancers’ feet move quicker, thrilling the crowd. In some cases, tinikling is used in conjunction with traditional Filipino martial arts to demonstrate quick foot movement and grace. In English-speaking areas, the word Tinikling usually means the "bamboo dance".
