Benefits of the Resolve Environment>> Provides all the tools available in Pro/E to fix a failure
>> Encourages failures to be fixed immediately
>> Makes models more robust and flexible
>> Improves modeling skills
Becoming Proficient with Resolve>> Key skill for Pro/ENGINEER users
>> Practice on test models
>> Dont wait until you have a failure on a production model
Why Good Features Go Bad>> Intersection of features is no longer valid
>> Missing References
>> Improper feature definition
>> Pattern Restriction no longer satisfied
>> Assembly failures due to missing components

What Happens When Features Fail
Do not save a model with suppressed failed features !
Resolve Feature Menu appears
>> Undo Changes, Investigate, Fix Model, Quick Fix
>> Failed and subsequent features not regenerated
In the File Menu>> Save, Save As, Rename, Erase are not available
Failure Diagnostics Window appears
>> Overview, Feature Info, Resolve Hints

How to Approach Resolving a Failure
Things NOT to do>> Automatically select Undo Changes
Steps to fixing a failure
>> Determine which feature failed
>> Determine why it is failed
Undo Changes is OK if you accidentallychange the wrong feature
Investigating the Failure
>> Typical regeneration failure
>> How to investigate and fix typical failures
Feature Conflicts with Another Feature
>> Re-evaluate the geometry and the features used
>> Quick fix
New (failed feature)
>> Suppress failed feature temporarily
>> Fix Model

Missing Assembly ReferenceIf the hole on the block is modified to rectangular hole. The bolt will not find axis alignment
constraint and the ASM will fail.
Quick Fix
Redefine & select new placement references
Original Assembly
?
Bolt Missing Reference
Modify Block
Missing Feature Reference
Similar to Missing Assembly Reference, except
Refers to references of a particular feature
Caused by changes made outside of assembly
Two types of features to discuss

What is the Backup Model?
Last saved version of the model on the hard drive
If you saved very recently, this may be good enough
What if you have not saved recently?
Automatic snapshot at each Regeneration
Will cover this in more detail in a few minutes...
Using the Backup Model
Very powerful tool, especially when:
You are not so familiar with the model
Or not so familiar with the particular feature that has failed
Can be accessed in the Investigate and Fix Model menus
First lets talk about Investigation using the Backup Model
Investigation Using the Backup Model
First step - Identify the failed feature
Can be very difficult!Backup Model provides visual details
Crucial to understanding the failure
Appears in its own sub-window
All the tools the Current Model offers, and more
Can Investigate both models side-by-side
Fix Model using the Backup Model
Also appears in its own sub-window
Allows you to work on any feature in the entire model Redefine, Reroute, Create, Insert, etc
Work on the pre-failure model
Changes are actually applied to the current model

Obtaining a Backup Model
Last Saved Version
Is it recent enough?
Environment - Make Regen Backup
Snapshot with every regeneration Also a config.pro file option Regen Backup Using Disk = Yes
May take longer with large models
Save before risky operations
Restoring Dimensions
Under-utilized option in the Fix Model Menu
Restores dimensions to original values
Can choose which ones to restore
Dont need to panic about Undo Changes
