Welcome to Key West’s 11th Annual Pirates in Paradise Festival – and a week of swashbuckling events for buccaneers and wenches of all ages!
Historic re-‐enactors and performers from around the country are invading the island and as you stroll the streets of Old Town’s colorful seaport taverns and pirate pubs; the Pirate Village Thieves’ Market at Truman Waterfront and Fort Taylor’s Pirate Invasion, don't be surprised if you run into the likes of Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Captain Morgan & other nefarious Brethren of the Coast.
Want to learn more about our Key West pirates? Take a evening Walking Tour of Old Town Key West and its infamous watering holes and seaport tavern with Christobol Colon the Buccaneers of Key West.
For those seeking adventure on the high seas, ‘His Ugliness’ Admiral Finbar and his scurvy crew of pirates invite you to hop aboard the Schooner WOLF for an adventure at sea! In addition to daily Pirate Sails & Sea Battles (Nov. 26 -‐ Dec.5), Admiral Finbar is teaching a Tall Ship Sail Training Intensive (Nov. 27 & 28) and is hosting CRN Shoot & Sail (Nov. 29.) You can also partake in daily dive & snorkel trips to the coral reef & USS Vandenberg, enjoy kayaking in the backcountry, go deep sea & flats fishing, parasail, jet-‐ski, or take a ferry trip to the Dry Tortugas.
Key West’s maritime community invites the public to join them on November 30 for their annual Conch Republic Military & Key West Maritime Holiday Extravaganza and Official End of America’s Hurricane Season Concert. Festivities will be held aboard the USCGC INGHAM & USS MOHAWK CGC Museum’s Ship s and along the Truman Waterfront Commons and include the ceremonial burning of the hurricane flags, sneak preview of the Village Thieves’ Market, piratical antics and dancing to Howard Livingston & the Mile Marker 24 Band and Mike Emerson’s Southernmost Brass Swing Band, with guests ‘Queen of Swing & Michelle Murillo.
For a taste of history, join author & historian Robert N. Macomber for his annual Key West Reader Rendezvous. Events include a Sunset Reception & Presentation on the History of GROG at the Crown Plaza La Concha (Nov. 29), a Historic Walking Tour of Old Town Key West & Book Signing at Voltaire Books (Nov. 30.) History buffs will also enjoy the Historic Glimpses from the Golden Age of Sail scheduled aboard the INGHAM during the Village Thieves’ Market (Dec. 3, 4 & 5.)
For those aspiring writers and artists wishing to get their inspiration from the sea, the Festival’s Literature & the Sea Retreat is a must. Join visiting and local authors, artists & historians for lunch at Kelly’s Caribbean (Dec. 1), aboard the WOLF for an afternoon sail (Dec. 2) and at El Meson de Pepe for a Caribbean Pirates Buffet (Dec. 2.) Robert N. Macomber is an internationally recognized award-‐winning maritime writer, lecturer, and television commentator. He has lectured as part of the Distinguished Military Author Series at the Center for Army Analysis in Washington DC, at the U.S. Southern Command’s Notable Military Author Series, for the West Point Society, and at the Office of Naval Intelligence.
Author of the acclaimed Honor Series of naval novels, Mr. Macomber is proud to have readers in ten countries. Logging 15,000 nautical miles each year and is annual guest lecturer aboard the Queen Mary 2 since her maiden voyage, as well as the Silver Sea fleet of luxury liners. Macomber has also been named ‘Most Intriguing Floridians of 2006’ and The Most Intriguing Author, and his sixth novel, A Different Kind of Honor, recently won the highest national honor in his genre—the American Library Association’s 2008 W. Y. Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction.
