- O)ne short paragraph explaining scientific interests and plans (500 words maximum)

(a) My research problem converges on experiments on the materials, which are useful in the preparation of Thin Film Solar Cells. The effect of various deposition parameters on the electrical and optical properties will have to be studied. Apart from these the influence of swift heavy ion (SHI) beam irradiation on these films will be undertaken at Nuclear Science Centre, New Delhi. The SHI beam is expected to modify the film by mixing due to thermal spiking or electronically by Coulomb explosion, which can be optimized for better material properties. Various measurements throw light on their structure and the nature of the films. This research will culminate by evolving better alloys or materials with optimal parameters for the preparation of thin film solar cells, in order to increase the energy conversion ratio.

(b) The other part of my research problem is the synthesis of bulk and ceramic thin film for fabrication of devices. They are small in size. The performance efficiency of bulk devices manufactured is rather low and erratic. And hence, thin film ceramic devices and their behavior under various conditions/parameters is being undertaken in this research where-in huge industrial applications can be later defined based on the results obtained. The importance of the present research work is to perform a systematic study of electrical resistivity, optical conductivity, and structural/morphology of ceramic samples, which throw light on transport carriers, their nature, their concentration, mobility, activation energy, band gap and optical transmittance etc. These studies will help in fabricating and developing high conducting/non-conducting materials useful for several solid state devices. The effects of composition, structure and environment on physical properties in terms of atomic, ionic and electronic behavior, is the prime aim of the present research problem. Apart from this, the effect of deposition parameters on the physical properties will also be dealt in detail.

- one short paragraph explaining teaching philosophy (300 words maximum)

Teaching, research and learning for the shake of livelihood is just an ordinary life. Teaching, research and learning not only for the shake of livelihood but also for the welfare of others, is a cultured life. Teaching, research and learning for the shake of livelihood, but also for the welfare of others, thinking that serving humanity is serving God, is my philosophy of teaching (education). This is the true motto of teaching philosophy. The primary philosophy of teaching is to impart a good education apart from motivating the students towards research activity, to build a healthy Nation. These two activities should go in parallel for good education in order to have a healthy atmosphere among teaching and students community.

It is often quoted that Physics is an experimental science whose language is mathematics. I believe in it and intend to demonstrate the hypothesis proposed by performing experiment. Because of this an everlasting impression will be embossed on the minds of student community, which can not be retrieved.

The need of the hour is value based education system. It has been observed during the past few years that, there has been a sharp decline on the part of students to take

Page 3: 11-30-2009 to, E-Mail : Fisica@Usfq.edu.Ec Dear Sir/Madam, Sub : Submission

admission in to degree classes especially in science faculties. There is nothing wrong in students putting forth their best efforts in achieving excellence in the examinations. But, if it is done at the cost of acquiring knowledge, it would be a tragedy. Unfortunately such a deplorable state of affairs in the field of education is continuing. The need of the hour is to get inspiration from the teachers, which is absolutely necessary for the students. This is my philosophy of teaching.

Skills sheetWith reference to the above cited subject, I intend to place before you the following few lines regarding myself, Dr. L. A. Udachan, for the suitability to the position available at your Organization/college.1. I am dedicated and dynamic Teacher with tremendous aptitude for research and

education. I am a self made personality. Very humble by nature and ever ready aptitude to guide students. I believe in hard work and merit.

2. Till date have rendered 37 years of service in the field of education in this college since 1967.

3. I have completed Ph.D. within the stipulated period of 3 years with a large number of publications to my credit in International and National Journals.

4. So far I have published 69 research papers in International and National Journals.5. I have participated and presented research papers in International/ National/Workshops, in

India and abroad.6. I was the Convener for the following seminars held at this venue :

a. UGC sponsored “National seminar on Laser and condensed matter Physics” (Dec. 26-30, 1998).

b. UGC sponsored “Harnessing solar energy” (March 11-13, 2000).c. “Four cornered program for +2, UG & PG students” (June 18, 2000)

I organized the above seminars in a very efficient manner. Thus I have the excellent organizing capabilities and caliber in dealing with persons.7. By the virtue of my research capabilities, I have secured the following Major Research

Project apart from 2 UGC sponsored Minor Research Projects :a. “ Application of deposition parameters to thin film solar cell materials”

Funded by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India of Rs 9.1 Lakhs (1996-99). The main emphasis was given for enhancing the efficiency of the solar cells

b. “ Preparation and studies of some Glass-ceramics” Funded by Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India of Rs 25.1 Lakhs (2000-04), In the capacity of Co-Investigator.Our team has synthesized glass-ceramics in this laboratory which has the property of machinability and can be used in metal sealing. A Patent has been filed on the glass-ceramic synthesized and is used widely used in many industrial applications. At present I am involved in an another Major Research Project entitled “Utilization of information technology and computer interfacing for Physics teaching” funded by University Grants Commission New-Delhi, India of worth Rs 670000/-. This project helps in automatically recording the measurements of various parameters in-situ and outside vacuum, at high temperatures without any manual operation. With the help these funding agencies, I have established Thin Film Laboratory and a Glass Ceramic Laboratory in this college for the benefits of students and teachers of backward region of this Hyderabad Karnataka.

8. I was the key person in meticulously preparing and presenting the syllabi and proposals for the Courses/subjects , i) Instrumentation ii) Industrial chemistry iii) Non-conventional energy sources under the scheme of Vocationalization of education at degree level absolutely funded by UGC, Rs 17 Lakhs for each course. Apart from this, because of his foresighted vision, the college secured a fund of 8 Lakhs under 9th Plan period.

9. I participate I in all the activities of the college and is available in the college every day from 8 AM to 8 PM.

10. I have participated as a Resource Person in various workshops/seminar on Science & Technology including Kannada translation.

11. After considering the above mentioned facts, the Government of Karnataka has confirmed on me the prestigious award the “Best Teacher” Award for the year 1996-97.
