CANADA - Listened to the last 15 minutes of CBC Sackville on 9625 starting at 0450 November 1. Reception actuallyquite good, much better than normal for this service into Texas. Last part of "As It Happens Midnight Edition," then usualEnglish ID and address announcement at 0459:30, CBC News at 0500, then usual closing announcement in French, followed by "O Canada." Tone came up afterwards, carrier off at 0509:15.

And just like that, 68 years of transmissions from this facility come to an end. I first heard it in the mid-1960's, when allit had were the old 50 kW RCA units, and just one program feed. It was a pretty big deal when the five 250 kW Collinsunits were added in the early 1970's. The RCA units were replaced by 100 kW Harris transmitters in the mid 1980's,and the Collins were replaced by ABB units during the 90's, IIRC.

Goodbye Sackville, and thank you. As with RNW, good memories, although the final few years of RCI left much to bedesired. Anyone need some used shortwave transmitters? Between Sackville and Bonaire, there are a dozen up forgrabs. :-) (Steve Luce, Houston, Texas)

I tuned into Radio Havana Cuba on 5040 kHz this morning (7 Nov) at 0625 UT and was surprised to find their Englishhour in progress. A few minutes later, during the mid-week 'DXers Unlimited' programme, Arnie Coro confirmed that fromNovember 7th there was an extra hour of English on 5040 from 0600 to 0700 UT. Arnie also confirmed that RHC haddropped 6050 kHz and was now using 6165 instead via the same 100 kW transmitter and 340 degree antenna. Herequested reports on the new frequency to inforhc 'at' enet.cu . So their new English schedule is (times UT):11760 kHz 2000-2100 5040 kHz 0000-0100 6000 kHz 0100-0500 6165 kHz 0100-0700 6010 kHz 0500-0700 6060 kHz 0500-0700 6125 kHz 0500-0700 5040 kHz 0600-0700(the same hour in English is repeated during these times)

Strongest frequency here for the 0600-0700 hour was 6060 kHz, though 5040, 6125 and 6165 were also fairly clearfrequencies at this time just on my Sony portable. (Alan Pennington, Caversham, UK, Sony 7600GR, BDXC-UK yg via DXLD)

DJIBOUTI - Djibouti on with extended broadcast tonight. Very good signal into Germany, no QRM! 4780 kHz, 1 Nov2012, first noted at 2147, still ongoing with regional music and cheerful hosts at 2211. MEXICO - 6185, Radio Educación, 0455-0605*, Nov 4, local pop music. Ranchero style music. Spanish talk. IDs.National Anthem at 0600. Sign off at 0605 with local guitar music. (Brian Alexander, PA, DXLD)

SOMALILAND - 7120, Nov 8 at 1325, R. Hargeisa is making it this early now, very poor signal but equal to Myanmar7110. Talk by YL sounds like English intonation, which has been reported in this segment, and I make out a few wordssuch as “people”. 1329 brief music with heavy beat, back to more talk by another announcer, OM, maybe still English. It’s less than a semihour after sunrise here, but sunset in Hargeisa is not until 1439 UT, per gaisma.com, contrary toan hour earlier as thought by Dave Valko, PA, who has also been hearing it at this time. One hour is close enough forgrayline on this band, where signals penetrate considerably into the dayside, and could it even be short-path now insteadof longpath? (gh, WOR 1642, DXLD)
