It’s good to be in Crown Point!
The newspapers have shared the good news about the Crown Point
Schools. Jerry Ross Elementary School earned an “A” and so did
the Crown Point Community School District. This is evidence to the
focused and intense work that is happening in each building to help each child
experience success. In addition to assessing our overall scores on ISTEP
tests in English/Language Arts and Math, the new state A-F Accountability
system also measures individual student growth from one year to the next.
We earned an “A” because our scores were all above 90%, but a school’s letter
grade may increase, decrease, or remain the same based on student improve-
ment.
The results are satisfying, but not surprising because of the amazing teaching
and learning that occurs from the arrival bell all the way up until the dismissal
bell. I also must thank all of our amazing parents, grandparents, volunteers
and community members. It truly takes all of us working
together to get results. While our school board and district
administrators may not have a role in the day-to-day run-
ning of our schools, their leadership decisions about curric-
ulum, programming and allocation of funding have been vital to our success.
Again, I feel so humbled to lead our amazing children in Crown Point and prom-
ise to always set the highest standards for our children. While I am proud to
be the principal of a 4 STAR school and to have recently earned an “A”, I get
more satisfaction from visiting students in their classrooms and watching
them learn and grow. Our success is a result of thousands of small victories
that occur with our children throughout the year, each one contributing to our
overall success. I believe that kids need to have a voice and that it is my job
to bring out the talents of all kids. “Funny Fridays”, student-led tradition of
telling jokes on the Friday announcements, is one of many examples of kids
having opportunities. I just have to share this joke that 3rd grader AJ
Erdelac told today: first because it is cute, but also because it proves the
point of my message this week.
