TRENT BARRETT SHIELD Last Tuesday, our victorious Stage 2 tag and tackle teams took to
Wagga Wagga for the finals of the Trent Barrett Shield. Conditions
were spectacular for a day of league tag and footy. Our girls’ team,
consisting of: Jazmyn Deckers, Elena Loukissas, Dana Rolfe-
Lanyon, Deanna Smith, Evie Jones, Eadyn Lindley, Zoe Smart and
Olivia Calvert had a fantastic day, winning two games and only
narrowly losing to eventual finalists South Wagga. The girls displayed
skills beyond their years throughout all their games and were a
pleasure on and off the field. Deanna Smith was unstoppable all day
and was named Player of the Day.
With deafening support from our girls and a large group of parents
and family members, our Stage 2 boys rose to another level at this
year’s finals series. The team consisting of: Cain Turner, Logan
Smith, Logan Jones, Jimmy Smith, Archie Wheaton, Nicholas
McMurray, Cooper Bartlett, Nicholas Tait, Michael French and
Nicholas Brown won their two pool games 16-4. This placed them on
top of their pool and faced with a cross over final against Tumbarumba. In dominate fashion they defeated
Tumbarumba 28-12, scoring some fantastic team and individual tries.
Next was St Mary’s Young in the Semi-final. In a match
where our boys saw little ball they had to be extremely
resilient in defence, and it was here they setup the match,
eventually progressing after scoring first in an 8 all draw.
This meant that we had qualified for the Grand Final
against defending champions Leeton Public School. In an
open and attacking game, Leeton was just too strong
winning 24-20, but the strength, skill, and resilience
showed by all 10 players was appreciated by everyone
who witnessed one of the most entertaining Grand Final’s
in years. Archie Wheaton showed speed, skill and
leadership throughout the day, culminating in the player of
the day award and a hat trick of tries in the Grand Final.
While Nick McMurray was also recognised with a player of
the day award, after his tireless efforts in defence, and his
unbelievable skills in attack. Congratulations to everyone
involved, it was an amazing day.

Students are asked to wear casual clothes and bring in a $2:00 donation to assist with purchasing
raffle prizes for the Street Stall.
It is difficult for a very small but extremely hard working committee to finalise the Street Stall when
only limited support has been shown by our families. We really need you:
To sell and send back your tickets by Friday 21st September
To give an hour of your time to sit on our Street Stall- currently only half the timeslots are
filled
To supply a cake, slice or produce for our Street Stall
Please remember the P&C can only support your children at school if you support them. The P&C
have recently paid for the bus to Narrabeen at a cost of almost $4000.00. This significantly reduces
the cost of this excursion for families and it will only be subsidised next year if the funds are available.
If you believe the P&C is supporting your children please support the P&C
PSSA FOOTBALL KNOCKOUT Gundagai Public’s journey in the NSWPSSA Boys Football (Soccer) has come to an end with the defeat against arch sporting rivals South Wagga. The boys showed plenty of determination and made sure that South Wagga had to earn every goal. This concludes what has been a new frontier for Gundagai Public in soccer but it shows the athletic talents of such a small school.
Standouts for Gundagai included Cayden Wescombe who made no less than 14 saves and stopped the game from being a blow out. Archie Wheaton was consistant as ever in defence. Nicholas Tait put in a man of the match performance taking on his South Wagga opponents head on and showing them that size of the heart, not size of the man mattered in football.
At the conclusion of the game Mr Mastellotto mentioned how proud he was of the boys for coming so far in the knockout competition and how they defined expectations. Top 4 in Riverina, a title to be proud of.
PSSA CRICKET KNOCKOUT On Friday Gundagai Public met Junee North for a third time in sporting knockout competitions this year but were unable to seal the trifecta of victories. What started as a cloudy day turned out to be a beautiful day for cricket. Gundagai won the toss and elected to bowl first hoping that the wet wicket and outfield would work in their favour. After a strong start at restricting Junee’s run rate, it was the cursed sundries that gave Junee North a competition total finishing their innings with 124 runs. An excellent fielding performance by Joe Polsen (taking 3 catches) helped to eliminate quality batsmen. A short lunch break and Gundagai were met with some very tight bowling of Junee North. Best performers with the bat included Bailey Piper (12) and Shaun Smith (retired 43). It should be noted the impressive performance by Shaun Smith who had retired each cricket game this year. Ultimately Gundagai fell short by 32 runs and thus ended their journey. Mr Mastellotto was proud of all the boys in the way they performed on the day and how they handled themselves with the defeat. PSSA TOUCH FOOTBALL KNOCKOUT Goodluck to our Touch Football teams who have advanced to the Final 8 to be played in Wagga this Friday. Students are to arrive at Jubilee Park no later than 9.00 am. The teams are: Boys’ – Joseph Polsen, Shaun Smith, William Murphy, Jaylen Bell, Sebastian Smith, Cooper Ballard, Bailey Piper, Gus Pollack and Sam Sharman. Girls’ – Deanna Smith, Holly Deckers, Halle Smart, Madison Smith, Mia Doughty, Jayelle Britt, Bindi Crane and Charlise Longhurst.

The Term 4 Canteen Roster will be organised next week. There are still a number of roster vacancies and if volunteers cannot be found, the canteen will close on these days.
If your children use the canteen, please consider volunteering. If every family helps once, the canteen can easily operate throughout Term 4. Currently this does not seem possible.
Please note the canteen is not able to operate in the last 2 weeks of Term 3 due to lack of volunteers.
MEDICATION There are guidelines we must follow around administering medication at school. Please be aware of the following:
If students need to take medication while at school parents must complete a written request. Students must not keep these medications with them. They need to be handed it in to the office when they arrive at school.
Prescribed medication is usually sent on a daily basis and in a pharmacy labelled container detailing the student’s name and the prescribed dosage.
PREMIERS READING CHALLENGE The Premiers’ Reading Challenge has now concluded for 2018. Congratulations to Cooper Bartlett who completed the challenge. Well done to all our students that participated in the Reading Challenge for 2018.
